@benjaclown Жыл бұрын
Yeah! People often forget about all the cool inventions that existed before colonization happened. Both in North America and South America, the native groups had a lot of stuff figured out! In my (Mapuche) culture, for example, the ancient ones used to build houses where the door would be pointing towards the placement of the sun on New year's, so even without calendars, they knew a year had passed because the sun would move to that exact placement!

Cosplaying is wearing a costume of a fictional character from books, games, anime, movies, tv shows, etc. Then take photos, or go to a geeky convention, or participating in maskerades in said conventions, acting as such characters. @nightynight3938 ай бұрын
Erm, depends actually ! If the one you hurt is a prick then no, you don't apologize. She should definitely apologize for her behavior ! But like... if you do mean no harm, you shouldn't apologize for it. Unless the other really is nice about a genuine uncomfort or something and if you feel TRUE empathy, then yeah. You *Can* apologize, no obligation though, it's on your own choice. You don't have to apologize for every little thing that you say because you will always offend someone. And apologizing just for the sake of it is not empathy. So what you just said is not true. Empathy is exactly how Anonymous-54545 said. So, apologizing just because is not empathy. Neither should you apologize to someone who's being a prick first. You do deserve respect as a human being, that's for sure ! But if you are disrespectful, I don't care if I hurt you, even more so if my intentions weren't to offend you.

The amount of false “facts” is so gross, especially when another region deserves credit/mention that otherwise wouldn’t (usually) be known. For example Ammar al-Mawsili was an important eleventh-century Arab Muslim ophthalmologist born in Iraq. “He is mostly known for the invention of a hypodermic syringe, which he used to remove cataracts, a major cause of blindness.” And this dude was born in 996 AD, and died 1020, which to me is so much more fascinating than making up lies.

She was nearly right with that fact, native american syringes have been found dating a long time ago, they just didnt invent them. Still, takes no time to do that research
@blackedmage29617 ай бұрын
They technically did invent their own version of the syringe. Pre contact tribes fashioned syringes using hollow bird bones as the needle and animal bladders as the syphon. Like a form of technological convergent evolution, two different civilization can develop similar technologies independently.
@ShouPow2 ай бұрын
Hey it's cool the syringe was invented multiple times around the world in disconnected communities. But you're also kinda contributing to this fact falsehood scenario by positing one document instance of a new tech was the veritable invention/first use of it. A lot of technologies have evolved in disconnected societies in parallel. It's more intellectually useful to recognize how societies come across these inventions and what parts of their culture contributed to its creation. It allows us, as contemporary globalized folks, how invention isn't really a thing made by one person, but is actually an act done by groups of people in concert.
