Today we’re talking about Lady Bedazzled Hannah The American Ethnicity Cosplayer of Tiktok. She’s been creating content on social media for a while mostly involving ASMR and personal vlogs. It wasn’t until she started combining different tiktok genres into 7-10 minute videos that caused her to get popular. These genres include: AI NPC character live streams, grocery store hauls, ASMR tapping, character cosplay, and changing races. She claims she created these characters because of her love for other cultures and her interest in educating people about them. Based on previous tweets and the way she acts in her tiktoks - it might just be a ploy to get views, and clout by rage-baiting people into engaging with her content. I mean when there are more comments than likes you know she’s made it onto the algorithm #edvasian

FRR (just to be clear I am not Asian)but my friends often say I look Korean or Japanese because, I mean idrk. But it has kinda gotten me into this hole. Because I’m sorta tan but nowhere near stereotypically “dark”, everyone either expects me to speak fluent Spanish or Korean, Japanese etc. like I know Asian people, who have grown up in America who barely know how to greet people is their language. Stereotypes need to stop 😭😭

I feel like the only "pass" you get with "dressing up" is if you're doing a video that details the process of putting on a certain outfit. For example, if you made a video dressing in a kimono detailing/showing how hard it is and how long it takes to put one on. That or you are doing a cultural activity/practice that requires you to wear something specific. Otherwise yeeeeeeah don't do what this woman does ffs 😬

As a black woman, what was that “Black/African culture” supposed to be? Black culture and African are two VERY different things. The fact that she's "appreciating" different cultures, but she's still not differentiating between Japanese and Chinese culture, Native American cultures and African cultures... Like she's squishing entire continents of rich, varied histories, traditions, cuisines, etc into one broad and inaccurate mass, as if they're interchangeable. Edit: Oh, of course she suddenly can differentiate countries and different cultures when it comes to Europe. I should have seen that coming.

I was just about to comment that or lordy. while I actually beleive she had no bad intentions, her actions are nothing but pure ignorance. she really needs to learn about other countries and cultures more. because even within China, for example, there's over 50 (?) distinct ethnic groups edit: I watched the rest of the video and I take back what I said about "no bad intentions". yikes.

The amount of false “facts” is so gross, especially when another region deserves credit/mention that otherwise wouldn’t (usually) be known. For example Ammar al-Mawsili was an important eleventh-century Arab Muslim ophthalmologist born in Iraq. “He is mostly known for the invention of a hypodermic syringe, which he used to remove cataracts, a major cause of blindness.” And this dude was born in 996 AD, and died 1020, which to me is so much more fascinating than making up lies.

Yeah! People often forget about all the cool inventions that existed before colonization happened. Both in North America and South America, the native groups had a lot of stuff figured out! Erm, depends actually ! If the one you hurt is a prick then no, you don't apologize. She should definitely apologize for her behavior ! But like... if you do mean no harm, you shouldn't apologize for it. Unless the other really is nice about a genuine uncomfort or something and if you feel TRUE empathy, then yeah. You *Can* apologize, no obligation though, it's on your own choice. You don't have to apologize for every little thing that you say because you will always offend someone. And apologizing just for the sake of it is not empathy. So what you just said is not true. Empathy is exactly how Anonymous-54545 said. So, apologizing just because is not empathy. Neither should you apologize to someone who's being a prick first. You do deserve respect as a human being, that's for sure ! But if you are disrespectful, I don't care if I hurt you, even more so if my intentions weren't to offend you.

I would checkout Canadaland podcasts episodes on this. It is a nuances issue more than basic internet drama. She was adopted by a couple of indigenous families decades ago and apparently also helped build the foundations of the indigenous music scene in Canada. The podcastors also pointed out the cbc piece did not talk to the adopted families so everyone is more wait and see now. Pretendian cases in Canada does not really get as big as Rachel dolezal did in the US.
