Big shock, they're not and are just exposing their own lack of research into the music they make.

Most if not all of the boy bands from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's were "industry plant" bands. Put together by a marketing group. Songs, dance's, general look and act of the band members all controlled by management. They didn't really even hide it. Still sold millions of records, made millions of dollars. Just own it and move on. Maybe I'm just old now and don't get the new, younger generations would receive such a thing.
@Liz_ArdE3 жыл бұрын
Personally, I wouldn't really care if a band was planted or not but I do think I'm in the minority of my age group on that opinion. Gen z adores authenticity more than basically everything, we/they (I still don't know what I am) honestly don't even care if you're doing something objectively good, as long as you're being real about it. Now more than ever, genuine talent from very humble places can receive the spotlight that people think they deserve, so I think the tolerance for things like this is just really low.

I mean extremely popular boybands are still industry plants to this day. Some bands have more freedom than others and some individual members have the "rags to riches" story, but they are manufactured nonetheless. Edit: and I say this as a huge kpop stan. They're all manufactured even the ones who have a lot of creative control like BTS, Stray Kids, and G-Idle. The only group i can think of that's not that manufactured anymore is GOT7 but that's because they left their management.

@angygremlin44233 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why they're so intent on creating a riot grrl band. If you're an industry plant or manufactured group, don't pick a genre of music that is anti-establishment at its core. It's going to end badly!
@mariacamilavega17203 жыл бұрын
The thing with Kpop groups is that they're not fake or inauthentic. The fact that they're manufactured really can't negate their work or talent. They're all people who have worked their asses off in order to secure a place in the industry, go through training and practice and have a real passion for music. Kpop groups wouldn't work at all if the members didn't put their blood sweat and tears on them. And it works because it's real, it's genuine, and bands thrive because of that. Industry plants commonly have one big hit and flop, or no hits and flop completely. Best examples I can think of right now would be Baby Goth and Jumex. The issue many people have with these girls is how fake everything feels. They have zero chemistry, their songs are mediocre if not terrible, and their feminist punk aesthetic feels like a mockery to the style/subculture. They claim to be something they're probably not, which is an independent punk band, while the kpop industry and formula is no secret. In the words of xxxtentacion, what's real prospers, and industry plants are the prime example of it.

I have a friend that is in a band. Their music is very very well produced but their music videos are 4 fours guys with an iPhone not bad just it's obvious they don't have a film crew. The level of production value on their videos alone to me says they are being a little bit dishonest about their background. Making high production value music isn't "hard" if you have good connections. In the case of my friend their local radio lent them their studio for a few hours when they weren't using it and they did all the mastering themselves they put in the hours and the graft and their first EP shows it. For a music video like that you need a full crew. Crews are expensive the time alone that that video would consume would be more money than a real indie band would make in a year.

As a Gen Zer myself, I completely agree with your comment about us being drawn to genuine authenticity, and that’s one of many reasons why this band gives me such bad vibes. It’s not even necessarily that they are so produced; for example, bands like BTS have HUGE production teams, budgets, companies behind them, and do nothing to hide it, but they are still very popular and widely supported. It’s that they are trying SO DAMN HARD, to prove that they are in fact these effortlessly cool girls who just up and wrote a song one night and then oopsies we went viral enough to have professional merch and music videos with no help at all from any huge management companies, no siree, don’t worry about it. Marisa specifically seems to be perpetuating this story, since she seems to be at the forefront of the band and also was the one pulling the “yeah, we just got drunk one night and a song happened, and we only grew on TikTok bc we’re color coded hot girls” while Paige went on a longer explanation about their industry connections in their Q&A.

The vibe I get from them isn’t that they were industry plants per se, or at least if they are they’re only industry plants in a similar sense to Billie Eilish-it’s not, like, a scheme to get them popular with the image of an indie band, they’re just really privileged and/or have been trying to make it in the industry for long enough that they have connections. The vibe I get from them is that they barely knew each other but saw girl groups like be your own PET have songs blow up on TikTok and they went “woah it’s so easy to be an alt band that blows up on TikTok all you have to do is talk about how you hate men and dye your hair and make loud whiny music” when the fact is that even though it seems disorganized or whiny and cacophonous that kind of music has a lot of thought and care and talent and heart put into it. Now that they’re realizing it’s not actually easy, they’re getting bitter and embarrassed.
@goobjub7083 жыл бұрын
I mean, Billie Eilish is definitely an industry plant. Not even a little bit, like very CLEARLY an industry plant. She sung on a track that her brother Finneas produced, mixed and mastered. He did everything. She uploads the song to soundcloud (she never gives a really clear reason why she did that) and it only got a couple thousand plays (not a lot on SC) contrary to the narrative her and her team push that she "blew up". Then, she was "discovered" by....Wouldn't ya know it? Her brothers manager, LOL (Finneas had a garage band going for some time and Ocean Eyes was actually gonna be for the band.). I could go on about how her whole come up was a huge marketing ploy for streaming services and how she had to become a walking advertisement for Spotify, Apple, and KZbin in order to get the crap load of advertising we were bombarded with in 2016 and on (for some rando who hasn't really come out with anything yet. Does that not seem weird to you?) That's why you get bombarded with her stuff everywhere. They want reallyyyyyy badly to make Billie a THING, and if you go back and look into it, it becomes extremely apparent that her come up was VERY forced. Here's the facts as we are to believe them: She was signed at FOURTEEN to INTERSCOPE for no reason. No notable discography. Ocean Eyes was not a success on SoundCloud. Not multitalented. Just some average singer 14 yr old girl. Any success the song had was because of the production quality, which was the result of her brothers hard work. I want to make it clear; I know about record labels. There was NO REASON to sign Billie Eilish. None. Signing her at 14 with no previous success is the same as signing a random person off the street. There's something missing here. Some deal that was made previously. There's stuff her and her team are not telling us, and they've tried really hard to keep what I know in this comment hidden. Now, I wonder what the real story is? Definitely NOT organic.
@goobjub7083 жыл бұрын
I wanna say one more thing: My entire attitude on Billie would be totally different if she actually did blow up on SoundCloud. There are lots of artists that blow up on SoundCloud and find their way on there, but Billie was NOT one of them.
