Now I realize that Dean didn’t need to be possessed by Michael to kill Lucifer. Sam just had to throw a chair at him.

I noticed the similarity in the first episode u mentioned with "it follows," I thought I was just imagining things cuz no one has pointed it out before. Also the amount of times I thought Sam is like Hulk to me. It's so funny to see him tied up to chairs when he is so large. Honestly they should have made the chair his weapon.

When they reference both Jared and Jensen's 2011 horror films with episodes are beautiful. And the '05 House of Wax with Paris Hilton? Gold

Now I feel dumb that I never really realised any of those episodes were inspired by other movies but damn... it does make so much sense

I don't see how these two episodes are worse offenders than the dozens of other episodes in multiple seasons (especially the early ones) that are clearly based on horror movies of the past. It's been a few years since I've last seen Supernatural (and I'm more and more tempted to rewatch/finish it after binging this channel's content), but I recall homages to the X-Files, Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, Buffy, and just about every 80s & 90s horror show and movie sprinkled through the various seasons of Supernatural. They're a staple of the show and one of the reasons why it performed as well as it did. Matter of fact, it would be pretty great to see a series with the same format as this video focused around highlighting the parallels between Supernatural episodes and the original movies/shows it drew inspiration from.

Its not that they were the worst offenders, its that they appeared in the same season and relatively close to each other, like within 3 or 4 episodes.

So, as you probably know, Kripke grew up watching and loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files. Anyway, I have been watching both of them lately cause they are on an antenna channel I get and man, the similarities (or should I say influences on Kripke) are all over the place. Go back and watch the both if you can for a while and you’ll see it big time. It has this same kinda feel that you’re talking about here.

I also think another movie similar to it follows and that episode is the ring where a supernatural comes after you but you can pass it on to another by copying the movie and have someone else watch it changing its target to them but once they die it comes back to you just like it follows 😅

You'd be amazed how many similarities there are between Friday the 13th the series and supernatural. Episode 11 "scarecrow" episode 12 "faith," well episode 12 of the Friday the 13th series being called "faith healer"

I think safe house was clearly ripping off sinister they clearly made the bad guy exactly look like buggul or boogey man and the vigil sign in the episode is also same as the vigil sign as bugull

I mean, those similarities are a lot more surface level than the ones pointed out in the video. TBH, despite the movies having virtually nothing in common beyond similar names, they're often mistaken for eachother so I wouldn't be surprised if some writer blended the two together intentionally or accidentally

Thank you for the video! I am rewatching supernatural these days, and these were fun things to learn about ngl. I'll probably watch those movies this weekend. 👀

Valentine's day doesn't look any more derivative than any of the other episodes you mentioned. Hell, the hillbilly episode had far more in common with its original source material.
