Well I would trust you to do the experiment faithfully, and to enjoy the beers! Assuming you can get good beers there, I have found Sierra Nevada to make good stuff, by the way always meant to ask what you are studying as I assume you work for a university or study in one.

Yeah, I figured that, why don't you do the experiment for me, essentially drilling a piece of the cedar big enough to stuff a ferro rod into it, wearing it in for a while to get it weathered, then pulling the rod out and use the handle as dry tinder to then start a wet (rained upon) wood fire. Save the postage for a beer!

I always use one stick, branch or piece of wood to start a fire with my ferro rod, never with paper, never with a lighter. I always have a lighter though, just in case. You are right that we go out there because we want to. I'm not in, as i'm sure someone else may need it, but thanks for showing us.

Przydałaby mi się taka rozpałka ponieważ w mojej okolicy jest zabronione rozpalanie ognisk, a palnik gazowy jak powiedziałeś to nie to samo co palące się drewno :) Więc takie paliwo do mojego małego piecyka survivalowego by się napewno przydało, a poranna herbatka czy kawa gdzieś w parku czy lesie byłaby na pewno przyjemniensza.

Good to see you back Simon, been a while, would like to try one (not necessarily a whole packet), to see if one could be turned into a holder for a long ferro rod, would make a good emergency tinder, similar to making a holder from fat wood, being Cedar may be too weak though.

Hi. Yes, it's a bit soft and splits very easily which in the case of a handhold may not be a good thing. But I can send you a stick or two and let's see how it works for you. PM me with your address.

tbh if you got a lighter,match,ferro rod etc... natural tinder will do the job just fine... and it's free 😀

If you have enough experience you'll be fine with just your knife. That's cool too but not everyone needs to be an expert on various natural tinders or fire-making methods. Some people just want to have a quick fire in a developed camp. Thanks for watching.

Jakoś nie widzi mi się noszenie drewna do lasu. Jeśli nie mogę znaleźć naturalnej hubki, to mam warkocz bawełniany zaimpregnowany woskiem przy krzesiwie. Za to tam, gdzie nie można nawet patyczka spalić, czy nie lepiej zainwestować w bardziej kaloryczne paliwo i odpowiednią kuchenkę? Gaz/turystyczne paliwo stałe/nafta.

Wspominam o tym w filmiku. Jeśli komuś pasuje gaz, to w porządku. Niektórzy lubią po prostu mieć prawdziwe ognisko dla atmosfery, zapachu itp. Są miejsca, w których drewno i tak musieliby kupić bo nie wolno go zbierać ale palić ogień wolno (większość wyznaczonych obozowisk). Ta rozpałka nadaje się nawet do rozpalania grilla i nie trzeba czekać 15 minut aż smród nafty się wypali.
