Kate, I totally agree with single use items in the kitchen, with 2 exceptions: for me, the air fryer and crockpot are great for not heating up the kitchen in summer (my house is tiny and everything gets heated up) and in the winter they help me to save a bit on electricity (as that is my heat source). I often say to others I won’t get an instant pot until the crock pot goes 😂

Happy to say I finally fit into them and donated the larger size 😊. Also, I absolutely love my air fryer. I have the Cosori Dual Blaze (nice size, no preheating and no turning over of food). Our larder is much deeper (quantity vs variety) now than many years past. Most of it was purchased at good to great prices per unit at the time it was purchased; between inflation and shrinkflation, the unit price and savings were getting better every month for a while. We begin meal planning with the larder and this has meant some changes in the dishes we prepare. But on and off this means eating a 1 cup cooked serving of cornmeal for $.066 versus a single slice of inexpensive sandwich loaf bread for $.12; rough figures but based upon a 20 slice loaf for $2.49. We are currently using 29oz cans of diced tomatoes(cant remember the price, it was good) and 15oz petitie diced tomatoes in garlic and oregano at 3 cans/ $1 instead of most other tomato products; an immersion blender makes a choice of smooth or chunky tomato sauce. The list goes on.

@kamloopscruiser8742 ай бұрын
Kitchen gadgets - I got rid of duplicates, plus everything that could be done with an existing tool. But I did buy a Ninja Foodii. It’s an air fryer, crockpot, steamer, pressure cooker to name the 4 ways I actually use it the most. It has other features I don’t bother with. It’s got ceramic non stick which is why I didn’t buy an Instapot. Fits a whole chicken to roast it too btw. But that 1 device dropped my electric bill noticeably. I don’t bother with my oven or fry pan much and it’s replaced the bbq. Before my husband died we realized we used the air fryer so much it was worth getting a larger one to cook for family get togethers and that’s when we tossed our propane bbq. Now he’s gone I still use it to grill steaks when the kids are over.

I have an InstaPot and an air fryer because I'm a widow and cooking for one. It's very spendy and wasteful to heat up the oven for a single dish (yeah, I know, I batch cook whenever I can, but that's not always possible). I use less electricity, and no gas, and don't heat up my house by using small appliances whenever possible. Second, I'M 70. There are a couple of life-changing products that I can't live without: (1) sunscreen (which wasn't even available until I was nearly 30) No more hiding indoors when the sun is shining! (2) Tretinoin (Retin-A) cream. You don't think of it as a necessity until your face falls off during menopause, then suddenly you change your mind! I keep skincare, etc. down to a low roar by shopping for high percentage of active ingredients (niacinamide and peptides are amazing!) from less expensive lines. I watched a fascinating KZbin by LabMuffin where she compared ultra-luxury products to more affordable dupes. For instance - by chemical analysis - the closest substitute for Creme de La Mer ($1,440) is Nivea ($9.98). Both jars will last you about 6 months (assuming you apply it liberally to face, neck, décolleté, and hands twice a day). Both are rich, soothing, hydrating creams that help repair very dry skin with very few allergens. Personally, I don't like the idea of paying $1,430 for a fancy jar!

Fun Video Kate! Here's my list: 1. Kitchen gadgets & appliances - I have gadgets, but not unitaskers (as Alton Brown calls them). I also don't have an airfryer because we have an old convection oven and it's basically the same thing. 2. “Miracle” cleaners / skin care - sometimes. I've been resisting the urge to give into the influencers who use scrub daddy sponges. Skincare I have a simple routine that works for me, so I rarely buy anything new. 3. Kids toys & books & games - nope, no kids. But the dog is spoiled >.< 4. Craft supplies - these are my biggest weakness. I have 3 cross stitch patterns and associated supplies in a cart right now, but have 8 unfinished charts that I'm going to finish first before buying new ones. I've learned to stick with the 2-3 crafts that I really enjoy and have ample supplies for and resisting new ones that look fun. 5. Holiday decor - not really though I do like a good seasonal scented candle every so often :) 6. Clothes that don’t fit right now - nope. I buy very few clothes and follow the one in-one out rule when I need to replace something that is worn out. 7. Baby toys & gear - thankfully no! 8. Storage containers - yes, but I totally agree with you. I'd rather declutter stuff than store it so that's something I have been working hard on lately. 9. Food that’s on sale - nope, but we do stock up on frequently used items in bulk. 10. Workout shoes, clothes, & equipment - nope, although my partner has purchased some camping equipment even though we have never (tent) camped before so we don't know if we will even like it.

I am a Foodie and LOVE ❤ to cook (I am also a Holistic Nutritionist) and I have loads of spices -but I do use them on regular rotation. However, I started not to replenish those that are on a slowet rotation to create a bit of space in my kitchen. Not a big gadget person - a really good knife, great knife skills and a handful of other essentials and that's it. I used to have a Nespresso machine and love a good latte in the morning (I bought it years ago to drop the Starbucks habit), then last fall I needed some extra cash during unemployment and sold it and doing French Press since every morning. I just recently decided to put it onto my Birthday wishlist to get me a small Nespresso and chuck away a few bucks from each paycheck coming towards it. This one is worth it for me being a espresso & coffee lover.
