@@theod4660 most people did not play Druid because of Guff, Guff was in most Druid decks. Dr Boom was in most classes (that wanted to finish the game before 7 mana), so He was in most decks because 9/9 for 7 with an additional 2-8 damage going to the enemy board was "good"

- Mechwarper allowed for a 0-mana SNIP-SNAP. As SNIP has both Echo and Magnetic, it could then be replayed infinitely to infinitely buff any mech on board. And then OS the opponent. It was so strong that the devs literally changed the code of the game to prevent cards with the Echo keyword to cost less than 1 mana. If a system-wide change is needed to nerf a card, I think it's a testament to how broken it was. This wasn't the only combo, Warlock for instance had a legendary that gave all minions echo, which enabled similar shenanigans. - Prince Keleseth warped the meta around it. Mage being mage : - The quest that gives you a free bonus turn - Apprentice at 2 mana was just bonkers - Ice block, for such a simple card to be so strong, and to be able to include two copies ? Druid being druid : - Twig of the world tree. Mana cheating may be strong in this game ? - Spreading plague - Divine spirit + inner fire + Topsy turvy, as a bucket this enabled combo priest decks to be played until they rotated out. - Divine Favour (favor?). Back then, this single-handedly enabled aggro paladin. In a meta where there was hardly any card draw, being able to dump your hand then play one card and equalize hands, it was stupid strong. So strong in fact that it was rotated out eventually by the devs due to placing too big a constraint on future cards design. - Guff. Just ... Guff.

Astalor not being in top 50 is crazy. That card was in every aggro, midrange and control deck, every stage of it got nerfed and it was still played. Much better card than Ilgynoth for example, which was only in 1 meta deck that saw play for only a couple of weeks.

So the card defined one of the top decks of the format while also being present in every other deck. Seems better than Dr Boom at least

Yeah exactly! I think it's also why Rarran placed Patches so high on the list. It's a 1 mana 1/1 which has very little impact on the game, but you'd see it every game. The reason it's playable is the pirate package at the time was awesome. People seem to forget that

I loved Deck of Lumacy + Incanters Flow at Barrens rotation. With the small card pool, you could choose some of the spells you got by deciding whether to cast Incanters Flow or not. So say you realised you probably would need some healing against an aggro deck, you could cast Incanters Flow once to get your Flamestrikes down to 6 mana, then cast Deck of Lunacy to transform them into 6 mana Libram of Hopes (the only 9 mana spell in the pool), just as an example. It felt tactical and deliberate.

Idk what other comments are gonna go on about, but i just wanna say great video, thank u for list, it's great nostalgia and good fun to hear about cards, especially as a classic player myself, having played through most of the expansions. As u said, certain cards can be higher and lower depending on personal feeling and impact, but i think the list is an extremely accurate general playerbase opinon. While not every card would prob be agreed upon, i can imagine every player agreeing with at least 50% and i mean every single player, so 50% and prob a solid 40% being changing in positions of cards, and last 10% maybe including some other cards, is a pretty good margine for such a list. Great content chief :D

I would say patches should be number 1, mainly because he is one of the few cards that you didn't have to draw. All other powerful cards have draw inconsistency, but patches is the only guy who doesn't

Patches had draw inconsistency. Drawing him at the time would reduce your winrate from ~60% to ~40%.

Interesting video and sorting of cards. Obviously many people are going to disagree because a tier list fundamentally is very opinion based. As someone who also played since closes beta but left after witch wood and came back during sunken city, when looking at older cards I would have placed several cards like boom and shadowstep above undertaker because they were basically universally good and metawarping.

One suggestion for future big lists like this: obviously you can't go explain the reasons behind the inclusion of every card if you want to keep the length of the video down, but I would have just shown each card from 100-51 individually without explaining them. Fantano does this for his end of year music lists and I think it's a better compromise than just showing a picture with all the cards in it

I overall agree with all of your picks except for not having guff included. He was so good even aggro druid decks put him in at the time. He enabled some of the most heinous combos ever seen in both standard, with stuff like brann and astalor, and wild where if it wasn't for guff I don't think twig would ever have been killed either.

Undertaker was like MtG's Tarmogoyf in its prime. Just a low-cost beatstick that grew in attack and health and demanded an answer. Both are still beloved cards, but have faded away in their eternal formats after years of power creep, though can still lay down a beating every now and then.

As most cards are unnerfed in wild an idea you could do is a best deck ever in standart tournament. I got that inspiration from a series on a mtg youtube channel that does it.

May I ask where Azure Drake would have ended up on the list? I have played hearthstone a long time after its initial release (until I dropped it, cuz of money keks) but as far as I remember Azure Drake was the best 5(?) Drop for pretty much ever deck for a very long time.... until it got rotated to the hall of legends because of exactly this reason

Dr Boom hero card not being higher is crazy. The card essentially forced the idea of rotating genn and baku a year early due to how powerful odd warrior was that it even shut down odd rogue. Then it still needed to get nerfed because it was too powerful
