2 inch strip of 1/2 plywood along bottom of walls. Keeps drywall off the concrete, and if you ever have water incident, your whole basement would have to fill 2 inches deep to reach drywall. Also makes baseboards much easier to put in.

I just want to take a second to thank you, Jeff. I'm currently in the middle of a bedroom renovation and I've got to say you have been a huge help. Changing the wood paneling this house (1969) was built in with drywall, adding insulation (ski cabin originally so we have none I guess), and doing electrical work has been really fun so far! Satisfied customer here!

Jeff, thank you for all these amazing videos! My husband and I are first time homeowners attempting to fix our flooded basement. All water is out and we are demoing about 2 feet from the floor because all that drywall and insulation was soaked and a bit moldy. Can you do a video on flood cuts or doing drywall for that section of flood cut? (2-4 feet from floor?). That would be so helpful!

I always save an off cut piece, at least a 2 ft wide one for pieces to patch any holes later down the road so I don't have to buy a whole sheet or any small piece. Just stick it in the attic for later. You'll need it. Someone will (me or a kid) will knock a hole in the wall some day down the road...lol.

I am in the process of installing sheetrock on my first floor replacing old plaster board from the 50's that was crumbling. I was able to raise my ceilings to 108" to tall for standard drywall to be hung horizontally, without a third piece, and I wasn't able to source wider sheetrock in my area. I am cutting 10 ft sheets to 108" and installing vertically. So far I have been able to lay it out where I only have butt joints in the corners. I hear that hanging drywall horizontally reduces the tape joint footage. If you wind up having to build up the joint later and stretch it out that seems to defeat the reasoning for doing it that way. Like you said the mud is more expensive. I'm curious to know your thoughts on this. Thanks for your videos I have learned so much from you!
@kevinbilant264

In Australia (I think, but don't quote me) they put the butt joints between the studs with a backer that bends the board slightly to give a void for the tape and mud so you can get a nice smooth finish

Ok. I have installed my drywall and patched the seams and screw points. Now I need to texture. Do I skim coat the wall, let it dry, sand and then texture? ??? Or texture over the drywall without skim coating? I tried to find a a video by you on skim coating. I found the one on texture and it was great. Your technique works on my walls as they have big texture areas not the tiny dots.

@huejanus5505
@huejanus5505 2 жыл бұрын
Why do you run the drywall horizontally? Running vertically eliminates most, if not all butt joints. You also don’t have 14.5” of unsupported joints between each stud. If you have a wall taller than 8’ you also eliminate that extra piece of butt joint. Butt joints use much more mud as well than an edge joint.

Totally unrelated question. I have a carpet inlay surrounded by tile. I want to remove the carpet and attempt to match the tile roughly. My concern is that the existing tile will be higher than the tile I install, creating a depression in the floor with a lip. How would I raise the height of the new tile so that it is even? Should I add a layer of subfloor? Self leveling concrete? Any suggestions?

theres no reason to cut a sheet unless you're at the end of a wall, all your stud work should be designed around the size of a sheet.. Also staggering the joints prevents cracking, 2 layers of tape isn't going to show up since here in the uk we skim the walls with around 3mm of plaster...
