There seems to be quite a bit of confusion and pushback in the comments about "seed oils" and "artificial sweeteners". My goal with this channel is to inform you with the best available evidence while considering the strength of the evidence. So while there is some valid mechanistic speculation, the human evidence we have points toward PUFAs (including Omega-6 which are found in seed oils) being neutral to positive for most health outcomes particularly when replacing saturated fat (as noted in the two studies covered in the video). As for the concerns of negative health effects from sugar-free drinks, again the most high quality data we have says otherwise: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30602577/ . There are some unknowns with certain artificial sweeteners, but overall the most recent human research we have points to them being safe, and as mentioned in the video, helpful for weight loss purposes. Ultimately I respect each of your decisions as to what you decide to eat, and I get how confusing/overwhelming getting nutrition info from a bunch of different sources/influencers can be, but realize that research is always evolving and changing. I try my best to stay on top of the latest evidence, and sometimes this contradicts what I used to believe. So be open to changing your thoughts/beliefs based on new evidence, that's the only way to grow and that's what this channel is all about. Anyways, I hope you found the video useful. Here's all the links to the studies mentioned in the video: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SATIETY AND CALORIE CONSUMPTION pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6303104/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11518179/ EFFECTS OF LOW-CALORIE DENSITY FOODS ON CALORIE AND FOOD INTAKE pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16762948/ THERMIC EFFECT OF FOOD www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC524030/ HIGH PROTEIN VS LOW PROTEIN DIET pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8856395/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11063440/ PROTEIN INTAKE AND POST-DIET FAT REGAIN pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26813524/ CONSUMPTION OF PUFAS VS SATURATED FATS ON TYPE OF BELLY FAT pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22492369/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24550191/ THE EFFECTS OF NON-NUTRITIVE SWEETENER VS WATER ON WEIGHT LOSS www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4744961

The pushback about artificial sweeteners is not about their effect on lowering the net caloric intake for those who would rather go for a sugary drink. This is logically sound, but the effects of artificial sweeteners on gut microbiome, and cardiometabolic health are not yet realized, and we only just started to study gut microbiome seriously in the last decade. Even scientists are prone to confirmation bias, which is why we have a peer review process. Most reviews on NNS suggest that the studies are incomplete and need more research to support any kind of claim. It is kind of surprising that there are still products marketed as healthy, even though the studies in favor and against it are non-conclusive. I would take NNSs with a huge bucket of salt.

Seed oils are some of the worst foods you can possibly eat. Omega 6 out of balance wtih Omega 3 is also not a good thing. From personal experience diet soda causes sugar craving especially on an empty stomach. Most people I see drinking diet soda on a regular basis are overweight. I have learned a lot from a lot of your videos but this one makes some pretty shocking statements.. I think you need some more research. The literature on seed oils is everywhere on how bad they are for you.

Here are some reasons why water is better than diet soda: Hydration: Water is the best fluid for staying hydrated. It's essential for almost every function in your body, from helping organs work properly to maintaining your body's temperature. While diet sodas are mostly water, they also contain other ingredients that don't contribute to your body's hydration needs in the same way. No additives: Water doesn't contain additives like artificial sweeteners, colorings, or preservatives. these additives may have potential health concerns. Appetite regulation: There's some evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners may interfere with your body's natural ability to regulate calorie intake based on the sweetness of foods. In other words, regularly consuming foods and drinks with artificial sweeteners might make you crave more sweet and high-calorie foods, potentially leading to overeating and weight gain in the long term. Oral health: While diet sodas don't contain sugar, they are acidic. Frequent consumption can contribute to dental erosion. Bone health: Some studies suggest a correlation between phosphoric acid, a common ingredient in many sodas, and lower bone density. Overall health: Regular water consumption can aid digestion, prevent constipation, and help the body flush out toxins. The benefits of drinking water far outweigh those of diet soda.

The "oral health" and "bone health" arguments are spot on. 👍 Those two claims are probably the most uncontroversial when it comes to artificial sweeteners. Much more than "appetite regulation" which has been studied for decades now without any conclusive results. Taken together the effect of sweeteners to appetite is either weak or non-existent. But you might want to think again about the hydration and toxin part. Diet soda is still more than 99% water and toxins aren't "flushed out" by water. All that talk about toxins is mostly esoterics anyway.

I think, eating sweet foods can lead to sugar cravings and can often lead to consuming more calories than necessary. This can be avoided by limiting the intake of added sugar and opting for natural sources of sugar, like fruits, which can provide the necessary nutrients and energy without leading to unnecessary cravings. I lost 35 pounds last year. I achieved this by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, avoiding sugary drinks, and being mindful of my overall calorie intake. I found that cutting out sugary drinks was one of the easiest ways to reduce my calorie intake without feeling deprived.

Cancer from aspartame doesnt worry you? All mentioned aspartame metabolites are toxic to the brain, aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen, even at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg of body weight, which is much lower than the official acceptable daily intake. People use it as a pesticide today becuase of how effective it is as a neuropoison. Much like the history of sugar, flouride, and other neurotoxins being granted approval....it wasnt done with your best interests at heart. I may sound crazy but look into the history of these things. Read into "THE ASPARTAME CONTROVERSY OF 1981 The Hidden Truth" by VirginiaTech undergraduate historical review.... "Although numerous studies were conducted documenting negative findings concerning the effects of aspartame, the sweetener remains legal, partially due to the political power of companies who manufacture it. In 1981, Ronald Reagan, with help from members of his transition team, including the CEO of G. D. Searle, Donald Rumsfeld, appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes Jr. as the new FDA commissioner. Just weeks later, Rumsfeld submitted a reevaluation of aspartame and Hayes, ignoring the recommendations of several doctors, approved the substance for human consumption." Every rat in study grew massive tumors. When you realize that in ther 1970's neurological illness was 1 in 25,000 and today it is 1 of every 3. By 2025 it is reported it will be 1 every 2. I have concerns that it is our food that is poisoning us.

Hey man, Great video, as someone who was consuming a large amount of soda or ice tea full of sugar, about 3 months ago I stopped consuming any processed sugars. At first it was difficult because I stopped all sugar cold turkey, so I was low on energy. But then to stop the shakes and low energy, I started to eat more fruits/veges like bananas, apple, blueberries, carrots, celerie etc. Now it has gotten to a point that if I have a sip of coke or a bite of chocolate, it is too sweet for me and I actually feel unwell, I have also replaced the caffeine that I get from coke with black coffee from ground coffee beans. I sit around and wonder, why do we eat all these processed sugar when nature just provides healthy just as sweet alternatives. Anyway thanks for the video. Subscribed.

I'm glad you talk about the fact that we indeed do need to eat fat.. and that yah, polyunsaturated is better. But, so many people just cut out ALL fat and that's SO Bad for you. Fat is one of the three things that actually determines how long you remain satiated from a meal. The three are: Fat, Fiber and Protein. ____Also, just FYI: Taking fiber supplements if you're trying to eat less is 100% helpful. It helps fill you up because you take it with a lot of water. The fiber absorbs water in your stomach and expands which makes you feel fuller. It also has the added benefit of helping keep your digestive system working great. The longer you remain satiated, the less you end up eating. I personally can be totally happy just eating like two 500-600 calorie meals a day and snacking on 1/4 a cup of nuts and 1/2 of cheese twice a day. Which still makes being in a caloric deficient easy. Eat breakfast, snack twice during the day and eat 2 hours before bed and bam! Sure, I'm never actual FULL but ugh, being "Full" feels so utterly gross. I just eat till my stomach is like, "Yo dude, I'm good, stop" Which probably is when it's 1/2 full typically. My stomach outright revolts if I eat till I feel full. But, most of that is probably because of life long eating habits.

I think the switch to diet sodas keeping cravings away has to do with the carbonation of the soda combined with the sweetness like you said. I think the carbonation creates a sense of fullness in the stomach and the sweetness hits those cravings. I drink sparkling water and it has a similar effect maybe not as effective due to the reduced sweetness but it can be more beneficial to overall health. Aspartame and other artificial zero calorie sweeteners are not know to be the best thing for the body. That being said I’m all for diet sodas if it reduces people’s regular soda consumption. Just my two cents here.

@SPAHI43 Жыл бұрын

@ghostflame9211 Жыл бұрын
As far as I’m concerned (I’m not a nutritionist or dietician, so take from that what you will), any alternative is better for you than sugar. Even aspartame, which has been proven to cause cancer (albeit only if you regularly consume ungodly amounts), I would argue is still better for your overall health. Reason being is i did an experiment in college where we boiled a pot of coke and a separate pot of Diet Coke all the way down. What we found left was a clear pot in one and black sludge in the other. The black sludge was the sugar from the regular Coke. Never again lol. Does that mean I completely avoid sugar? Of course not; my birthday is coming up so you bet your ass I’m gorging on a BJs pizookie. But as sucralose just tastes sweeter with less of it, you’ll never convince me it’s worse for me than sugar.
@asciblue Жыл бұрын
my opinion of sucralose is low, likely because I consumed a ton of it in the past cause I hate plain water. Side effects included brain fog and some digestive issues. I had stopped for about 6 months then picked it up again without issue but severely limited intake of it during that time. There is some research suggesting sucralose helps the body store fat too, so I'd wager while it's used in nearly every supplement on the market the reason people stay lean is the exercise. Your mileage may vary.
@sucraloss Жыл бұрын
There’s different levels for them. Added sugar is more or less the worst while natural low calorie sweeteners like pure stevia or pure monk fruit extract are the better sweeteners. Sugar alcohols are fine but don’t go overboard, erythritol generally is the best. But it is a high FODMAP sweetener so it can make you gassy or have an upset stomach. Allulose is comparable to erythritol, maybe a little better but still could give you gas/stomach pain. I’ve been using a bunch of different ones in my ninja creami and I’ve had the best results with pure monk fruit powder or stevia. NOT cut with erythritol because my gut does not like sugar alcohol. If you can eat it then you can go for the sugar alcohol or rare sugar like Allulose. Not a doctor but this has been my experience. If you really want to be super safe just go for monk fruit extract or stevia. But it’s worth seeing how you handle sugar alcohol and Allulose. Small amounts of aspartame, sucralose are okay just don’t go nuts. So Diet Coke is probably a no-go, but a packet of Splenda is no biggie.

This is great advice that i wish i had known sooner. Calorie restriction + eating filling foods (makes it much easier to sit at a lower daily calorie count) was by far the most potent combination for me (270 back under 200 now). I learned this the hard way since you just can't afford to spend your precious calories on empty sugary junk, doritos, or whatever, when heavily restricting. Not sure why this message isn't pushed harder. People seem to think that eating healthy is just eating the right foods, when it is also eating the right amounts of them.

some seed oils are bad for one of two reasons: either they take seed oil as a base product and modify it so much it's harmful (look the history of canola oil) or they are not harmful UNLESS they reach certain temperatures (which can be too low for certain targeted uses). Artificial sweeteners are bad as well. See it this way, our body processes sugars in the form of glucose which is regulated by insulin. However, none of these artificial sweeteners can be regulated by insulin because they are not glucose, so they increase blood sugar and can lead to diabetes or Insulin resistance.

I like La Croix the best. Sometimes if I want something tart I'll drink Spindrift's Raspberry Lime flavor, it's 5 calories and 1g of sugar from the added raspberry and lime juice.

I can definitely see how the switch from coke to diet coke makes a difference. I used to think this whole 0 fat thing was a label lie designed to sell more coke and that if you wanna lose weight you can't be worrying about if coke is good or not but should avoid it altogether. But after many years of failures and shame surrounding eating habbits I understood that unless you're enjoying what you eat you will never succeed and a diet coke has had 0 negative effect on my overall diet in fact it did for me the same as those test subjects, made me less likely to crave sweets. It may not be for everyone but diet coke is not the enemy

I have two 15 lbs dumbbells I do squats, deadlifts, hammer curls, triceps extensions, side lunges. I jog to warm up when I feel ready I start side lunges & squats no resistance, then I move into the 15 lbs resistance. Im doing this 30 minutes to an hour a day or near daily. What do I roughly burn in calories? Im trying to get an rough estimate of what I burn doing this? It is light to moderate intensity.

7:20 but other youtube channel say that saturated fats, unprocessed, from animal sources are healthy, and it is the highly processed unsaturated oils from plants that should be avoided. For example, look at Dr. Ekberg videos. So who's right?

I have switched to snacking on frozen fruits to sate my sweet tooth and that alone has helped a ton. I am addicted to soda for the carbonation, so I switched to soda water (not as tasty but it definitely kills the craving). I am down 20 pounds so far, 100-ish to go

Thanks for another informative video!! I've eliminated all of those bad foods you mentioned from my diet and have dropped 20lbs in the past 8 months. I stopped drinking sugary drinks 4 years ago but I didn’t switch to the non-sugar alternatives. I don’t believe in switching sugar for factory-made chemicals. I prefer to just avoid them all. One mindset change I use in helping me avoid unhealthy foods is to say to myself, “That’s what fat people eat.” Since I no longer put myself in that group, I pass on it and consume something more healthy.

Lately, instead of soda like Mountain Dew or Pepsi or Root Beer, I’ve been drinking these Mio flavor enhancers. Essentially, 1-2 squeezes per water bottle (3-4 for bigger bottles) and my water tastes like something that has more calories, WITHOUT ADDING ANY SIGNIFICANT CALORIES. Mio also have a caffeine variant so I can also get that mild caffeine boost I would normally get from the Pepsi sodas (Pepsi product sodas often have a decent amount of caffeine). Same soda-like taste, same soda energy boost from caffeine, the only problem is no carbonation. If I invest in a Soda Stream or some other home carbonation system, that could be solved. I have noticed a drop in weight recently, and I’m sure cutting out sodas and using these water flavor enhancers is a key reason for that.

I started for the first time ever in my life on Feb 28th of this year completely cleaning up my diet & exercising 4 days a week, with the focus of cutting/building & maintaining lean mass. One of the best things that helped me kick the sodas (which I wasn’t big on to begin with but definitely had my streaks of indulgence with) was carbonated water. I think my favorite brand so far has been the Waterloo drinks, they are naturally flavored, two ingredients, no bs. They not only disrupt predominantly drinking water with something that hits like a soda, but they’re actually tasty, I think it’s really all you need. I find these to be preferable to zero sugar sodas/diet drinks from an actual health standpoint as artificial sweeteners and colorings could potentially be linked to cancer and what not. In the roughly three months I’ve been consistent, I’ve gone from about 207lbs to 193lbs currently. Everything about this process is mental, and I feel incredible. If you’re reading this and are contemplating starting your journey or you’re smack dab in the middle of it and need some motivation: trust me, you’ve got this🔒

There is none. Possibly stevia but we don't know. There is still a lot that we don't know about the effect of artificial sweeteners long-term, especially generational ones. I would not consume them regularly (especially not daily), instead having a well-rounded diet that contains all the essential macro and micronutrients required for our body to function.

Yeah I'm still staying away from seed oils. 😏 But I agree with you about the artificial sweeteners. People demonize them because they don't know what's going to happen long term but short term there is still no evidence that they do harm so I keep enjoying my occasional soda and energy drink. Water is still king though and should be the bulk of your liquids. If not for weightloss, do it for your teeth.

Omega 6 is very inflammatory, and animal fat is bad? Were hunter gathers eating seed oils? 😂
@danielwenning Жыл бұрын

@dellson8274 Жыл бұрын
lots of white fish have omega 6 along with 3 so hunter gatherers were eating those too. Seed oils should be limited but saturated processed yellow butter or maragrine is awful. I make my own white churned butter at home along with home made peanut butter and they're delicious. But I use them in moderation with cold pressed no heat olive oil, sesame oil and coconut oil. It's not an either or but moderation and ABOLUTELY NO PROCESSED fats.

Hunter gatherers weren't farming cows or olives either. Seed oils have been consumed for thousands of years. People are worrying about nothing.

It is really confusing that you promote seed oil consumption while all recent research is pointing towards it being very very unhealthy. If used in moderation, its fine, just like diet soda. But promoting it over butter is a bit far fetched. I read a lot about this and olive oil often comes out as being most healthy in different ways.

Great video thanks, the only comment I have is about the "sugar free" drinks, often they contain artificial sweeteners like Aspartame which are neurotoxic. I just use carbonated water, or water and ice blended, with a little bit of freshly squeezed fruit juice or some herbal or fruit pieces squeezed or added to the glass for flavour into it, some of the herbals taste great like mint, ginger etc.

Aren’t seed oils bad for you though as they contain high amounts of lenoleic acid which causes cancer and heart disease. We should use fats that contain 1-2% of lenoleic and seed oils contain up to 70%. Fats such as butter and coconut oils only contain 2%
