Carson and Mary is still one of my favorite scenes..."You go ahead and have a good cry...that's what's needed now. And when you are ready you can get to work." I just love it.

Although I love this scene, there's a part of me that wished she had this kind of relationship with her father. You rarely see her going to her father for comfort.

Another is when Mrs. Hughes comforts Tom after Sybil’s death as he is struggling to figure how how, or if, he still belongs at Downton. And another is when Violet comforts Mary after her break-up with Henry. And yet another moment of comfort when Violet comforts Isobel after learning Dickie has a terminal illness (or so she thought).

That scene of Carson comforting Mary made me cry! He has always been such a great father figure for her. Where she can drop the strong, stoic no emotion leading lady act, and let her emotions flow and tell her actual thoughts and feelings to him knowing that he will not judge her when breaks down, and she knows she can gain confidence and comfort from him when she needs it most.😊

My favorite is this quote…because every survivor of sexual assault needs to hear this from a loved one: “You are not spoiled. You are made higher to me and holier because of the suffering you’ve been put through. You are my wife and I have never been prouder nor loved you more than I love you now at this moment.” Like…that is so beautiful and I can’t articulate how much I wish every survivor could hear that.

That scene with Carson and Mary is powerful. You get the sense that she hasn’t even been able to get any tears out before that scene. She’s just been numb and shut down in shock for 6 months, and then finally, she has the “good cry” that Carson knew she needed to have.

"You are being tested." "And you know what they say my darling?" "Being tested only makes you stronger." "I don't think it's working with me." This was, by far Lady Edith's lowest moment throughout the entire series to date. As always a mother's words come round to being right. Throughout her trials and tribulations, Lady Edith becomes stronger, wiser and more adapted to the modern world than anybody else is the family. Despite her lack of sympathy throughout the series, Cora's internal empathy for her daughter is always there in some form or fashion.

@@Becky-uz8em Alfred (the footman who had left to become a chef in a fine London restaurant) had come back to visit one last time, and although Mrs. Patmore had encouraged Daisy to stay away for the day visiting her father-in-law to avoid seeing Alfred, her father-in-law explained to her why it was important that she see Alfred to say goodbye properly and remain friends, so he sent Daisy back with a basket of food for Alfred. The fact that Mrs.Patmore touched Daisy on the shoulder was huge. People didn’t touch each other back then to give comfort. Robert even comments on his own advice to Bates, “that’s strong words for an Englishman.”

@@themermaidstale5008 People back then did sometimes touch each other to give comfort, but it was the exception, not the rule. The occasion had to be highly exceptional (though less so if they were family). That's why it looked a bit awkward for both Mrs. Patmore and Daisy, and how Daisy knew it was very significant.

These are wonderful! I thought of one that always makes me feel emotional, and it's such a little thing, but so fitting when you are talking about comfort: Remember the episode when Cora and Robert were fighting and sleeping in separate beds. Well, his dog was dying and Robert didn't want to leave her. Cora said, let her sleep in between us." It just made me tear up, knowing Cora would be so kind to Robert, knowing how much he cared about his dog.

It isn't as affectionate and moving as the ones in this video, but I wish we had the scene of lady Violet, the matriarch and oldest member of the family, comforting Daisy, the humbles and youngest member of the staff, after she found her crying out of pain and shame for William's death and their wedding. Violet "doesn't speak much of the matters of the heart", but you must admit it was sweet of her to patiently listen to the scullery maid's feelings and to help her made peace with them.

The cover is too sad... Edith's ruined marriage was so unnecessary & my heart really broke for her😭😭😭 I've always loved the relationship between Robert & John. Also don't hate me for this, but sometimes, it felt like Carson was a better father to Mary than Robert (he really doesn't win the award for the best parent, Cora was significantly better), that last scene had me in tears, Michelle is just phenomenal.

After Sybil's disturbing death, the horrific sexual assault on Anna and Matthew's painful death, I was absolutely full of this show!💔😓 I wanted to stop watching.
