I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Sport and my EPS rack and pinion broke on me yesterday! A replacement costs around $1300 but I found one at an Auto Salvage yard for $450. I'm going to be doing the swap over the weekend. This is my 2nd Ram. My first was an 04 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 that I put 210K miles on then traded it in on this one.

Still driving my 2004 dodge ram, I purchased with 80,000 miles 9 years ago.. now have 348,000 miles and I only had to buy an battery and starter(and basic things like tires....etc) still running strong. I'm still getting compliments on how good it looks and sounds. Plan on buying a 2012 next year and I'm hoping it's as reliable as the one I have now.

Thats awesome Curtis glad your truck is running strong still! I would bump yourself up a couple more years. 2010-2012 seem to be the more popular years for lifter failure. Doesn't happen to all of them of course but whenever someone mentions they had an engine problem it seems to be a 2010-2012. Check out some of the other RAM videos on the channel when you get a chance and let us know what you think too 😎

@@georgecastro6596 sure. Low miles? Here are the things I've dealt with. Upper A-arms Ball joints Ignition switch Replaced rear end, bearing went bad and tore up the differential. Both front wheel hubs. Most of those are due from normal wear and tear. Normal for the blending door in the dash to break, mine did. New rotors and condenser coil fan. I now have 224k. Still runs good.

Our family has an 08 (240K), 13 (115K) , and now a 19 Ram 1500. Bought each one new. We try to get 250K from a truck. The 08 and 13 have the 8-speed transmission. We knew about the upper and tie rod ends, so we kept the standard tires/wheel sizes and no lift. 08 had a 4WD issue this past winter, but turned out to be a relay. 13 has had no mechanical issues, but I am concerned about the manifold bolts on this one. Seat bolster issues occur in all trucks I have had. We started using some tough seat covers to protect them...right when we buy the vehicle. I also had a 96 Dodge 1500 I got new with the 360. We got 250K out of that one. Track bars replaced at 180K. A buddy needed it, so sold it to him. He took it to 350K. Rumor has it some high school kid is still driving it.

@@scottlaplantelaplante990 I have a 2014. The manifold bolts have to do with the casting of the manifolds. I only had 2 bolts break on the passenger side. drivers side has been fine. If bolts break use a die grinder to oblong the hole slightly so when the manifold expands it no longer pushes on the bolt and breaks it. had mine replaced about 2 years ago and no issues since the holes where bolts broke were enlarged. i currently have 71K on the vehicle.

Yep, you called it...98k on my Ram, and exhaust leak...pulled the manifold and the front stud was snapped off. Got lucky, it unscrewed by hand. New studs and a gasket and running again. You did not mention the O2 sensors. Three out of the four on my 2003 Ram went bad after 65k miles. Guess what? The Bosch sensors from the auto parts store won't work! Dodge uses their own with a different ohm rating, and they are $100 each! And there are four of them! And they don't come off easy! Oh, and one is different than the other three, so don't mix them up. Who does that? Dodge!

You dont have to keep it stock. The upper ball joint thing is actually common across all manufacturers and why most lift kits even small ones come with new Uni-balls. Heck using my 3" leveling kit on my ram I just went ahead and put on a pro comp UCA so I wouldnt have to worry about it. But also as far as the tie rods go maybe truck just isnt tall enough in the front but I've been running 35s for awhile now and they havent worn out.

I don't care who says what, I think these trucks are the dog's balls of trucks! I run a 2002 Ram 1500 truck here in the UK. (Yes, I know you are all cringeing at my fuel bills!), but it is in reality an economical truck! In terms of something that weighs nearly 2 tons and has a 4.7 V8 mill! I love it, the engineering is superb, like most American stuff, (I even have mostly American tools in my builder's kit). This truck is superb, it has definitely seen better days, mostly due to me creaming other cars at junctions etc and it gives me a hard on everywhere I drive it! Gets lots of admiring attention and all I can say is: Dodge rules!

I’m a Dodge dealer mechanic since 1996 and I have to disagree with the upper ball joints wearing out. I can’t ever remember replacing an upper control arm on a Ram for a bad ball joint. Also the tie rod ends rarely go bad on these trucks. What you are absolutely right about is the HEMI exhaust manifold bolt issue. Also fairly common are lifter failures that destroy the camshaft.
@BoostedMotorsports
@BoostedMotorsports 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! The upper ball joint issues seem to be more prone on the vehicles with altered heights. Both the boots on my upper control arm bushings are broken at this point so I think they will fail shortly and my truck is stock ride height. My truck has almost 110k on it though so its not a surprise either. 😎

Even if you buy a high mileage Ram in great condition and had to throw an engine in it your still ahead of the game considering the price of a new truck. These are a bargain.

Having all the same problems with my 2016 1500. Exhaust manifold bolts lasted 80k miles. Snapped off 2 on the driver's side. Replaced them with "upgraded" bolts. Will so long they last. Starting to get a rattle in my front end at 85k miles, so have to chase that down. The seat bolster has been a problem in Dodge trucks for years. My 2003 3500 with cloth seats and they failed at 100k miles. Replaced the seat cushion and wrapped the seat frame with thin foam and duct tape. That seemed to help for the next 100k miles.

An older man showed me his red cloth seats on his older chevy once..was amazed how they kept like new. His secret was using a towel. And since new ive used a towel on my 14 Ram with just 100k miles and yes,still like new.even on my 13 Longhorn leather seats. Got it with 75k and a lil discoloration on the leather. Now with over 200k and still exactly like the first day i got it.just my two cents

My brother has a 2014 ram 1500. He has had the exhaust manifold bolts replaced twice on his. It was somewhere in the 60,000 mile range. Thankfully he purchased an extended warranty plan when he bought the truck new. It covered up to 100,000 miles. He also has a few recalls for some of the safety systems. He had mentioned that his seatbelt may or may not hold you in an accident and there is a possibility that the airbags could kill you if they deploy. If you have not had that checked out on your truck, I would suggest taking it to a dealer and have them look it over.

My five issues have been(in no particular order) fuel pump, wheel bearings, rust at the front panels of driver door(at less than 60 grand on both 2009 and 2014) leaking sunroofs, and by pass coolant valve. I love Dodge but they all have different issues.

Never ever let any shop put in the cheaper Dextron (GM) Transmission even fluid insist on the Mopar Fluids such as AT4 or whatever your service manual calls for, at 100k miles a new Transmission filter would be a great idea. Transmissions can be a weak link so let a Mopar dealer with a good service reputation do the work. Avoid allowing general repair shops or any other non Chrysler to do any transmission maintenance or repair work.

You are so right... I know about the exhaust manifold bolts... have already bought bigger tires/rims that are fit for mud/snow, which I think the key is to grease the tie rods with really good lithium grease. Need to buy headers and running boards... love the electric running boards, but buying a tonneau cover first ($1000). For really good stainless steel headers is about $600+ to fit stock. powder coated is near $1000. BTW: I have a 2019 RAM Laramie 1500 4x4 and love it regardless of those issues that can happen. It's got plenty of power 5.7 350 cu. a tow package and leather interior.

I put almost 250,000 miles on a 2009. A great many of those miles were offroad and on poorly maintained forest roads. I did not have a single front end component wear out! I never even had to change the shocks, lol. It was an amazing truck. I had to change the fan clutch at 200,000 miles, a/c compressor around the same time, and water pump went out at 240,000 miles. Fast forward to now, I have a 2019 and at 36,000 miles the stock Toyo At II's were worn and replaced. It is much lower in the front than my 2009 so installed some Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks to lift up the front a bit. In doing so discovered one of the front shocks was leaking and a rear that seemed to not be holding any pressure.

Bought my 2015 Ram 2500 on 6/2015 in Long Beach Ca.. I had to replace the upper/lower ball joints 10/2016 at just over 36000 miles. The Firestones Transforce from the factory wore out fast, maybe from the rotation with bad ball joints. Not sure. I called the dealer to let them know about the ball joints & also I had an intermittent vibration in the rear of the truck that no one could figure out. Truck was all stock. I have literally baby'd this truck because I'm an older man and I stay on the black top 99.5% of the time. The only thing I had pulled with it was a 2000# utility pipe trailer maybe 6 times. The Dealer Warranty guy told me in a snotty way "well you must've been rough on it to wear out the ball joints that fast" He also told me that they probably wouldn't cover the ball joints even if truck was still below the warranty mileage. Wow! $50,000+ purchase! That kind of pissed me off and I told him that this will be the last damn truck I buy from them. I bought 4 new stock 18" Michelin Defenders and still had the vibration. I bought a 2" leveling kit w/ Bilstein 5100's .....now the vibration is gone. Other than that, now at 74000 miles the tires still have plenty of tread and I do love the truck. No other problems at all.

The reason I bought my truck in Long Beach was that I was visiting an in-law. I live in AZ. I was driving around looking at the Silverado's at Chevy dealerships as I always wanted one. Chevrolet wouldn't deal with me very good so I left. Went to a Dodge dealer and they did. My trucks already way past the mileage now for waranty work. But like I say I've had zero problems since then. I tried out a Silverado last year and after driving my Ram 2500 I just didn't like the Chevy Silverado but jmo. I thought it was smaller & not as much room and power wise I liked my Cummins better.

I've got a 2014 ram 1500 crew cab and it currently has 44,000 miles on it. Everything is in good shape and it still drives like a brand new truck. Only exception would be the Goodyear Wrangler tires that came with it. I still have the original tires on it, and they are pretty much bald. I will definitely be getting new tires this summer. Other than that, my Ram has been awesome and I have no regrets buying it.

Great video. I like the honesty. My original tires were gone at 51,000. I am about to change my second set at 126,000. Michelins. The only other issue I have had to date is the black tape as you describe. This is my second Ram and I wont own anything else. I ran my 05 to 232,500 and traded it off in 2014 for a 2013. So far only normal maintenance items!!

In my case, I’ve got a 14 Ram 1500. First thing for me was those crap tires around 45k miles. Seconds was front brakes and rotors around 55k. Third was the exhaust manifold bolt, but I still havent addressed that. Fourth was brakes and rotors all around and another set of tires around 90k. 5th was my water pump went out around 98k. I’m at 108k now with still a very sturdy solid truck. No other issues

Just got an 09 Ram 1500 with 98k miles on it. Noticed after driving it for 2 weeks that it makes a ticking sound when I first turn it on. Apparently the exhaust manifold bolts have been broken. At least I know now that its pretty common and not a huge deal. Warranty should cover the repair.

First thing 4th gen Ram owners should do is remove that tape shit stuck to the door pillars.

I am on my 3 4th gen. My 2009 1500 slt had 160000, my 2013 1500 sport had 180000, and now i have a 2018 2500 mega cab limited with 20000. I personally had zero issues with anything on the trucks. Never even replaced a single part. I think the only thing that bothered me was the antenna plastic surround faded. haha I always have side steps though.

All the factory tires for every make and model suck. The vehicle manufacture has the tire company make them as soft as possible for a comfy ride during a test drive. Plus there hoping you come back to the stealership and buy tires from them.

Tyler you are totally wrong. There is no relationship between tire companies and manufacturers in the fashion younststed. The manufacturers buy in bulk to keep the price down. The only time they collaborated together is if there are suspension requirement on performance type vehicles

Ok after I watched video I agree on the seat,the black decal,ball joints and tie rods, and tires. Good year stands for. You might get one good year out of then. I retired from being a suspension tech for 25 years. All the truck brands have issues with suspension ford has issues with exhaust manifold studs front hub/bearings, 4/4 issues and spark plugs breaking off in the cylinder heads, keep the wheel and tire sizes stock and do maintenance is your best bet.
