0:00 Introduction: The top nutritional deficiency behind constipation
0:13 Understanding the gut and constipation
7:48 How to get vitamin B1
7:58 Learn more about vitamin B1!
Let’s talk about the #1 nutritional deficiency behind constipation: a vitamin B1 deficiency. A severe vitamin B1 deficiency is called beriberi.
Constipation is essentially a problem with peristalsis-it’s not working properly, and you’re not pumping waste through the body. But if we look even deeper, this issue is related to the autonomic nervous system.
The autonomic nervous system is intimately involved with the gut. When you don’t have enough vitamin B1 (thiamine), a lot of things can go wrong with the autonomic nervous system-which then affects the gut.
A thiamine deficiency can also cause other problems in your gut that may lead to constipation, including:
• Low stomach acid
• Decreased gastric mobility (gastroparesis)
• Decreased pancreatic enzymes
• Biliary dyskinesia
A diet high in refined carbs and sugar is one of the primary causes of a B1 deficiency.
I’m not against herbal laxatives, as long as you’re also trying to correct the root problem-this means getting enough B1. Make sure you consume a natural vitamin B1 (thiamine) supplement, not a synthetic version.

I had constipation for 7 years. It was so bad I would drink coffee, laxative teas, take diuretic supplements. Nothing worked long term i would just get worse. My belly was distended and people would ask me if I was pregnant. Anyway, I started working with Mary Ruddick and she put me on high doses of B1 in the form of mega benfotamine. I was still constipated I had to take Magnesium supplements to poop for 1 year and was still suffering. After that I got help from Elliott Overton. He has a thiamine paradoxical reaction pdf he sells and I highly recommend it. He told me to add in B5 and suddenly after 7 years I could poop on my own without a diuretic. In his pdf he adds a lot of supplements that help restore the vagus nerve function. And also he recommends taking B1 in the form of TTFD or mega benfotamine. You need tudca, Magnesium, potassium, b1, b5, Bacopa monnieri, and full spectrum digestive enzymes. I poop 2x sometimes 3x a day now. Complete evacuation.

Whatever you decide to specialize in I said a prayer for you to excel and love your job. Also for you to truly keep the desire to help your patients. That being said I wanted to share just a little of what doctors who don't really care about their patients got me. I have chronic all over physical pain. Diagnosed with fibromialgia, RA and osteoarthritis. To be clear I really don't blame my 10 year opiate addiction on any of my previous doctors. The opiate epidemic was horrible for everyone even the doctors. There is a place for pain meds but please trust that a relationship with Jesus will lead you to a distant relationship with pain meds and your patients. I'm 54 yrs old and have only met one doctor who truly wants to help others and she's a PA for now. I've never been into trouble with the law or doctors bit it's just because I never got caught. Jesus led me one day to an outpatient program almost 6 yrs ago called Gateway to Recovery. An amazing place that I still attend 3 times a month for sobriety maintenance. I have an amazing counselor that I've done sessions that have excluded EMDR treatment for PTSD. Very successful stuff. I was in the MAT program that included random drug tests and suboxone. My marriage, family and life were all saved. My life isn't perfect but it is amazing. Last thing I want you to know is I've gotten my pain under control with IF and avoiding sugar as much as I can. I'm looking forward to growing herbs to make infused oil drops with. People are awake to big Pharma now so taking the time to really help others will bring you a great career and fortune, I know it will. Most of all I give Jesus all the glory and credit for my success. God bless you and apologies for the long reply 😊

1:07 The brain stem (autonomic nervous system) is very vulnerable to thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency. 4:31 Thiamine deficiency also inhibits HCL (stomach acid), the stuff that you need to break down protein. 5:28 Gastroparesis or slowing down of you digestion can be caused by diabetes because diabetes involves high levels of carbs and sugar which is one of the primary causes of vitamin B1 deficiency. 6:42 B1 deficiency can also inhibit pancreatic enzymes. 7:00 B1 deficiency can also cause gallbladder to become sluggish (Biliary Dyskinesia). 7:49 If you're taking B1 remedy, find the natural one, not the synthetic one.

@@karenyoung5786 actually, truthfully, I don't see B1 causing constipation very often. I see it somewhat frequently in people with histamine issues, POTS, IBS and SIBO, though. Iron and Magnesium deficiency are far more common and cause constipation specifically more often than B1 deficiency does. (Please note, I measure B1, Iron, Mg, and B12 on nearly all of my patients, so I have quite a bit of clinical experience to base this on)

@@gutmicrobiomequeen I have generational beriberi and know the disease intimately and all systems related. The statement you made is incorrect, B1 deficiency is a major cause of constipation. Few dr. don't know about the transketolase lab which was discontinued. Patients are suffering with sub clinical deficiency and do not know it, because it does not always test positive on other labs. SIBO and IBS "yes" but "no" to constipation does not make sense. Dr. Berg has illustrated this and has vast knowledge of Dr. Lonsdale's research. I recommend buying Dr. Mars and Dr. Lonsdale book on B1 deficiency it is written for doctors.

It helped my vagal tone, which in return helped with my alimentary canal functioning, also my heart rate, blood sugar issue, severe panic & anxiety disorder and much more. I take Allithiamine @ 100 mg per day, magnesium glycinate helps thiamine to function efficiently. I do take more supplements than that, however thiamine reversed my issues.

Great video!! I believe this must be where my problem began even though I have been taking vitamin B. Had been dealing with constipation for at least 2 years. My chiropractors had detected gall bladder issues a long time ago but nothing of what they tried exactly totally helped but my diet even though I had been more careful about things after watching your videos for years, I hadn’t quite fully stopped the many carbs and especially the sugar. Had covid this past January and am sure that’s why it attacked my already inflamed digestion. I as of recent have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. When I knew before this that things were more serious I did FINALLY cut out so many carbs and cut out sugar. I’ve heard you repeat this over and over but it’s taken me this long under a serious condition to finally know the seriousness of it☹️. Now I have a real battle that lays in front of me but I thank you for all the knowledge I have gained through your education of all things so I feel a bit less stressed about it Although scared about it too. Thankful for your videos with Guy Tanenbaum and Fred Evrard. Starting somewhat similar protocol as theirs but starting out with a few bumps along the way but a deep conviction in the God I worship knowing He is the true healer of all! 💗

Praying for healing and quick restoration of your health….my dad is a colorectal cancer survivor…he still has gut issues from the surgeries (no colostomy bag 🙏🏻) …. But he could do better if he would take more vitamins & eat more nutrient dense foods less carbs… the long term effects from the radiation treatments are his issues now…he only did 1 round of chemo then refused the follow up chemo post surgeries (which was the best FOR Him.. he couldn’t tolerate chemo) … he’s cancer free for 9 years (15yrs from diagnosis) with regular health checkups with his internists, oncologist, & now heart dr(result of radiation🙄)…. Plzzzz continue with to focus on using your foods, vitamins & minerals to heal your gut …poor absorption (of iron especially) has led to the ailments my dad has now even though he has always been at a healthy weight & fit… please rest(sleep as much as u can while going through everything) & DE-STRESS as much as possible!!! You & your family will be better for it in the long run ….God Bless you & family & friends during your journey of recovery.

Thank you Kim Boyd. Very interesting to hear of your dad’s experience and wish him continuing good health! At the moment, they want to do temporary bag via surgery and then radiation and chemo to shrink tumor 🙄. Then surgery to remove tumor and reattach colon getting rid of bag and then more chemo. I despise both the radiation and chemo and read nothing good about it (in fact Dr Berg has the video on the negatives of it). Just feel railroaded right now into these procedures and just really the majority of people think it’s the right way to go. Going to see another chiropractor tomorrow as she has dealt with quite a few cancer patients in the past with success. In the meantime, I’m floundering around but continue to research and of course above all….prayer!

This channel is awesome! Reeeeeespecting Dr. Berg culture. A healthy gut is, in my opinion, the key to everything. I'm an international chef for 25 years now. What feels like a lifetime ago, I read a book written by a chef who lived as a Buddhist monk in Tibet for a long time. He puts forth the idea , that's really not even a new idea , about what came first "the chicken or the egg". However many of millions of years ago , the gut came first. Hence this amazingly strong , adaptable and absorbing organ with complex bacteria. The gut than created the brain to make it more efficient at eating. which in return created mobility through the use of limbs. A healthy gut , absorbs nutrients effectively and disperses it or reserves it. The bottom line is, through its actions a healthy gut keeps inflammation from happening. Inflammation is more or less the root cause of any disease, illness or ailment. Any part of the body can experience inflammation, from the pinky toe to the brain . The side effects are vast depending on the location but like a domino effect , are all connected. Theirs something like twenty seven or more amino acids. You require at least twelve for the body and mind to develop and remain healthy. You can survive off nine of them but you're just going to be dying on the vine. You'll be a clone with no cognitive process and riddled with health problems. You'll be in a state of arrested development. Todays food is controlled under the umbrella of Vangaurd investments, who owns over 70% Monsanto ( Johnson &Johnson )and Proctor & Gamble ( these two make GMO's and just about 90% of all brand foods in every supermarket) , as well as Phizer , JEM and YUM restaurant groups ( Pizza Hut and almost all commercial fast food) and many other things , I won't get into. Unfortunately we all invest into as well. This food is no good , it's full of preservatives, soy, saw dust, round up and you name it. Most of it is Grade D dog food. We have been consuming this crap since we were children sitting under fluorescent mercury light bulbs at school five days a week . We are all to blame for this , no fingers can be pointed but now that we all see what we've done and we're doing and what could come, we can change this. "We can't fix our problems with same thinking that got us into it" -A. Einstein

Thank you Dr. Berg I hope Thiamine will promote improved motion within my digestive system. I've been diagnosed with a tortuous colon. "Ridiculously long and an absolute nightmare to get through" were the exact words of the gastroenterologist! But I've only had this diagnosis within the last five years. I've endured a very sluggish digestive system for as long as I remember. My parents tell me I was the same in infancy! But it wasn't until a family holiday to Lanzarote a few years prior to my referral to the gastroenterologist. Where I contracted a horrendous gastric imbalance that sent my whole body and mind TOTALLY out of wack. Anyways my digestive system has improved with the help of your KZbin channel. But it really is difficult to be regular and not feel like crap everyday.

Good morning Doc. This is so amazing. Thank you. Had a very poor year, just bad luck. Am mobile and enjoying life as much as possible. Unfortunately, my gallbladder was removed last June, one of three surgeries. Bathroom time has increased alot. I have ox bile, but when should i take it? On top of my meal, or later? Alot of discomfort, sore feet, toes, and now my legs. This is so far from what i was. It is hard to accept. Will increase my B's. Was taking probiotics regularly with ground flax and nutritional yeast for years. Have backed off, but if this will help, i will start again faithfully. Hope to hear from you, just not ready to feel elderly and feeble. Have a fine day Sir. 👍💖

I just got him stool softeners, and I am encouraging him to drink Chamomile tea first in the morning instead of coffee, which is a diuretic, that can dry up the stools, causing his problem. I am not a nurse, but moms have to be on top of the family health, just by osmosis, lol. If he will listen...we will see.

If the constipation is leaning towards being dry then it is likely he has a Vata type constipation and should follow a Vata pacifying diet and lifestyle - The constipation will clear up. For example, again if it's Vata related and especially in the cold dry season - avoid raw foods like apples, salads....but on the other hand cooked apples with butter can have the opposite effect. Just get to know his body and what is and isn't suited. Not all cases are because of B1 deficiencies.

It literally hurt to walk. It was better barefoot than with shoes. I did not realize that my feet stopped hurting until I just saw this video. My goal was reduce belly fat, and reverse liver damage cause by statins. The former is successful as I had to buy smaller pants and I dropped 5-7 pounds within 30 days doing nothing else.
