My top 10 and short explanation of each for anyone who is unfamiliar with them 1) Heir to the Empire trilogy (aka Thrawn trilogy. A legends story that was essentially Episodes 7-9 until Disney, set with the original trilogy cast and birth of Leia's first kids (twins). Most of Timothy Zahn's other works are sequels or prequels to this, so if you like it seek them out.) 2) KOTOR 1 & 2 (1 is a love note to the original trilogy, 2 is a deconstruction. I personally way prefer the second) 3) Darth Plagues (for all the reasons you said) 4) Tales of the Jedi/Dawn of the Jedi (both Legends but fill the same itch, essentially the foundation of The Sith but pre rule of 2, and foundation of the Jedi) 5) Darth Bane trilogy (Legends story, foundation of the Sith's rule of 2) 6) The animated shows Clone Wars (Legends), Clone Wars (Canon), Rebels (canon). (Again a same itch kinda thing so clumped together. The first Clone Wars covers things like the origin of Gervious, the next one was done by Lucas so you get Jar Jar arcs but beyond that like the video stated explains Anakin's fall much better, Rebels is the lead up to Rogue One and the original movie) 7) Marvel's Star Wars & Star Wars Darth Vader comics (Canon) (for same reasons the video stated, just note the video didn't cover that Darth Vader crosses over with Star Wars a lot though, so both are required for the full story. It's spinoff Doctor Aphra is off to a great start too). 8) Tie Fighter video game (Legends) (Essentially a what if you where a pilot for the Empire story, you join cults and everything. Get to be Darth Vader's wingman for a bit, escorts the Emperor, and serve under Grand Admiral Thrawn for most of the rest of it) 9) Dark Forces and Jedi Knight video games (Legends) (essentially stealing the death star plans, fighting Dark Troopers (those black stormtroopers but as giant battle Droids that make the prequels look like a joke, then finding out your a Jedi and lightsaber battles from jedi trainee to Jedi Masterhood with your own trainees and everything). 10) anything Matthew Stover. (Legends plus the novel of Revenge of the Sith which makes the movie look bad in comparison. He wrote Shatterpoint that is the story to do Justice to Mace Wind and Traitor which was essentially the downfall of the Legends son of Han and Leia that some speculate Kylo Ren was based off of but way better written. The first one was a standalone, the second one was the middle of a 19 book long series that I'm gonna give an honorable mention to in a second) Honorable Mentions: New Jedi Order (19 book long Legends war. Essentially the Galaxy is invaded from the outside by aliens immune to the force. Pretty much the coming of age of Han and Leia's 3 kids, the original casts finally starting to go old wise masters, and birth of Luke's first kid). Anything else by Timothy Zahn. as mentioned above mostly prequels/sequels to his first series that aren't quite as good as the first but good none the less. Plus Scoundrels, essentially Han loses the money he won from freezing Leia so tries to steal more Oceans Eleven style from other crime lords. The Old Republic trailers... the games are love it or hate it and I sadly side with the later... but the trailers are some of the best things ever done Star Wars wise. Anything James Luceno. Pretty much the guy who wrote Darth Plagues can fix anything or tie anything conflicting stories together. He writes both Legends and Canon. I'd something confused you, see if he's got a book about it. The X-Wing books. for same reason the video stated and I, Jedi which has the same writer but about his force sensitive character who leaves Rogue Squadron to become a Jedi solely to free his fiancé who's been kidnapped (written way before Attack of the Clones said Jedi didn't form attachments or get married) Republic Commando (books and game, all legends. essentially what the Clone troopers are but way more adult than the Clone Wars kids tv shows). Brian Daily Han Solo trilogy. essentially the Legends Han Solo back story. Legacy vol 1 and 2 (essentially legends stories set hundred plus of years in the future. First deals with Luke's decent and him on the run from himself and the galaxy, the second pretty much a Han/Leia great grand kid who exactly like Rey, minus the force. Their stories are kinda so close tons of rumors of Episode 7 came off like bad rewrites of this series, so many thought they where just wrong lol)

Revan takes place a good 2900 years before the Bane trilogy, and the book is a sequel to the KOTOR game so it kind of spoils who Revan is. (Play the game before you look him up seriously it rivals the "I am your father scene") In the Bane trilogy Revan is just a legendary figure of old.

Fiachra Mac Aodha and a very sad one too. I cried. But there were a few of those moments in TNJO series. Such dark story telling. And so compelling too. Vergere is one of the best characters in legends, with unknowable motives throughout the storyline. Reminded me of Kreia and Thrawn both.

Definitely agree with the list, especially with Lost Stars. That is probably my single favorite book that I have ever read. The tension, passion not only of love but for duty is compelling. Seeing The Galactic Civil War play out “Below Decks” gives more life to the battles in the original trilogy.

It might, if it's blantantly stated that Plagueis is dead and not hiding in the shadows with Sidious watching Maul's training. To Sidious, Maul wasn't a proper apprentice, just a sith assassin like Ventress to Dooku.

The "Son of Dathomir" comic series is essential for understanding what happened to Maul after his last appearance in the Clone Wars TV series when he was captured by Sidious on Mandalore. Also, the first "Dark Empire" comic series with a resurrected clone Emperor and an all-powerful Luke Skywalker walking a very fine line between good and evil was a very cool story with fantastic artwork. Going way back, although some fans may cringe or laugh, the very first Star Wars sequel personally authorized by George Lucas in 1978, "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," is very near and dear to my nostalgic heart (both the original novel by Alan Dean Foster and the comic book adaptation done by Dark Horse two decades later). Finally, the "Star Wars: Legacy" comic series with its vision of the galaxy approximately 100 years after the passing of Luke Skywalker was fascinating for all the new characters and changes that had occurred and yet still familiar enough to feel like the Star Wars saga we all know and love (Luke as a Force ghost trying to mentor his drug addict descendant Cade Skywalker provides the main link to the past).

I was glad to see you added the Jedi Knight series of games, those are some of my favorite Star Wars Games/Stories to play through. I was however disappointed to not see Knights of the Old Republic or Revan on this list. I feel like his story is most well known outside of the 7 or 8 movies out of any star wars story and he's also one of the most bad ass star wars characters there are. Almost everyone's list put's Revan in the top 3 most powerful jedi of all time as well as top 3 most powerful sith of all time. I think it is a must story for any star wars fan.

The Thrawn trilogy would be really cool, especially since I'm almost caught up on Rebels. That being said, I would've loved to see a shoutout to Star Wars: Legacy. Yes, it's non-canon, but I thought it was the most fleshed out non-film story and would love to see it adapted in the future. Long live Cade Skywalker!

I have heard a good theory that Thane kyrell and ciena ree are rey's parents. It makes sense considering the book ends with them on jakku, they would be the perfect age. Also it would make sense for them to have to flee jakku running from the empire since Thane was a deserter. I'm not saying I believe this theory, but it has a good argument.

Could you make a list of your favourite star wars novels from the canon?

Decent list; however for me personally, I Jedi is my favourite EU novel. I'd also consider the Dark Apprentice trilogy since we got introduced to a lot of cool characters such as Daala and Kyp. That being said we'd probably need a top 25 to fit in a lot of the materials to do semi justice at least haha

While not adding KOTOR is pretty much a sin, this is still a super solid list with stories that I love. Good job man. Also... Bane Trilogy > Darth Plagueis

I say if you're a fan of the rebellion then you should pick up Battlefront: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed. Also pickup Before The Awakening it gives more depth to the three main characters from The Force Awakens.

Darth Bane Trilogy. 5. Thrawn Trilogy. 6. Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. 7. The Clone Wars both shows. 8. Crimson Empire comic. 9. Dark Times comics. 10. Rebels show.

Damn it I knew I forgot something: Shadows of the Empire! Book, comic, game, get it all! Also Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand if you want a strong introduction to the character.
