You don't understand Hank and Peggy's dynamic if you think Hank telling Peggy to go to Hell isn't a big deal. Hanks round about way of saying it and Peggy's reaction say it all. Hank has never said something like that to her, it's a big deal. And then he realizes the very real fact that those might be the last words he ever says to his wife. It's a big deal.

Yeah, Hank’s treatment of Luanne bugged me. I don’t know, it felt like for a while his relationship with Luanne was one of those one step forward two steps back kind of things. Like, I suppose in a way it’s fitting with how emotionally constipated Hank can be, but I’m glad they managed to write their relationship a little more consistently as the series went on. Even if they did Flanderize Luanne as the series went on, which is unfortunate. Also Gaping Pickle Palace would be a good name for a restaurant…or a male strip club. Or a combination of the two. 😂

@@AnAverageGoblinIt either feels like the episodes are in the wrong seasons in the wrong order, they used an unmade Season 1 script for Season 2 but didn’t rewrite it to line up with the developments made since the first season including Hank declaring her as family or they Armor of God’ed these two Luanne episodes with Season 1’s Luanne episode being the conclusion while this Season 2 episode being the kickstarter to that other episode.

First of all: Love the Gusty Garden Galaxy music during Hank the Tank in the Tornado sequence. Second of all: as someone that was raised in Texas but lived in California for a collective of 5 years, I will say I definitely fear the tornadoes more. I lived through the Forth Worth tornado in 2000. The fact that this episode depicts people scrambling in a store when a twister is on the way just screams that the writers have never lived in Tornado Alley. If we're told there's a tornado coming, you bet your buns we're hunkering down, not going out to buy toilet paper 🤣

Hank’s dynamic is interesting. As a man who exposes traditional values, you would think he would be more appreciative of Luanne’s need for a good male role model in her life. But he awkwardness with Human contact makes to he can barely be emotionally support for his own flesh and blood. I think he’s role as her surrogate father is best shown in the deleted scene from her wedding episode. Where he seems almost emotional at the idea what she went from taking up his den to married with a kid on the way.

The thing that made Hank's behavior, despite him being more awkward than anything else when he tried to speak to Luanne, so uncomfortable is that not only does Luanne live so FAR from the Hills she would have been ALONE in that trailer. Luanne is ditzy but she thrived so much better when she had a family unit. It's clear she's closer to Peggy than Hank but after everything she's gone through the last thing Luanne needed was to be isolated from the most loving people she's ever been around.

This episode is honestly my favorite episode. From hank telling peggy to go to hell, to nancy leaving dale a carton of cigarettes for dinner so she can film the tornado or get in on the damage reports, the relationship between hank and Luanne to the tornado itself. This episode is purely KOTH. I honestly can’t think of a better episode that purely encapsulates everything that is KOTH.

Also, a trailer park is all fine and dandy until a tornado is spawned nearby and you’re basically fucked. No where to go for shelter, literally losing all your belongings. Most people who die in tornadoes die in trailer parks and recreation vehicles. It’s best to know the area. If you’re anywhere thats prone to tornadoes frequently through the year, like texas or kansas. Then a trailer park is probably not a great option. Where i live id take a basement apartment over a trailer park. At least i can just go to the bathroom in the basement and be safe from most tornadoes. Once you get into EF-3+ youre kind of just fucked either way regardless of where you live.

Where I live in Canada is where “Tornado Alley” typically starts. Living in Ca. I live there for 6 years, and through droughts, forest fires and earthquakes, every place has some issues, now I deal with tornadoes, and throughout my life I’ve been through a blizzard in every month of the year here in Canada too!

FYI, as this episode was released in 1997 and the Enhanced Fujita scale would not be in effect until 1 February 2007, this would have been an F3 tornado and not and EF-3 tornado so the range of wind speeds would have been 158 - 206 MPH and not the updated 136 - 165 MPH.

I had this idea for a large-scale, onsight bathhouse for trailer parks. A place where people in trailer parks could go and get a more proper shower done in, in case their own options were too limiting or dysfunctional. With Luanne's old neighborhood being a good example of perhaps not having everything you need. You know, something of a turn key business that even my mom thought was pretty sound. As somebody who lives in a good RV park, it can be a lovely place. Most of the people who live there full time are super friendly and helpful. It has a real sense of community. And when tourists and travelers rotate, you have chances to make new important relationships. It's not always great for people with paralyzing social anxiety, but it can be good exposure therapy. Be nice to trailer park residents. Most of us are just normal people trying to live in a world where rent prices are too damn high.
