The (totally silent) ATI Straton LED reef tank light!

The ATI Straton LED reef tank light is a very well made passively cooled light panel. It provides some shimmer, but not a lot, and blankets a little more than a 30x30 inch area of your tank in light from a single fixture. The controls are all via a website hosted on the light itself - no need for a third party service or internet access to control your lights. A wifi network is all that's needed (they also support ethernet).
The ATI Straton almost disappears when you're looking at it from the edge, as you would if they were hanging over your tank. This makes the whole tank look much cleaner, more modern. The Phillips CoralCare Gen 2 has its power supply integrated into the light, and so its thicker. AND THE SOUND! The sound is the best feature! There is none! Sooo quiet! It's glorious! My reef tank has NEVER been this quiet.
These are the first lights I've ever owned that are passively cooled. THIS IS THE FUTURE, I'm sure of it. It's night and day. I couldn't believe how much white noise was coming from the fans in my Radions - you don't really notice it until it's not there. You heard it here first, the Gen 6 Radions will be passively cooled. It's such an upgrade, maybe not Radion Gen6 but eventually passive cooling will be commonplace in the reef hobby.

I do think they’re on the higher end of reasonable, but they’re among the first totally silent led lights we have, so I think it’s ok. I think this is a trend that’s going to spread over time, and with fewer parts (no fan and related controls) maybe we’ll get a slight drop over the industry? They cover a lot more space than my Radions did. I was looking at six Radion G5 vs 3 Straton.

Is there any shimmer with these lights? I recently got the Neptune Sky and it has zero shimmer. I got 2 Sky's for a 6 foot tank but instead of getting a their unit I got a couple Kessils to fill in the gaps and add a more dynamic look. I thought about these lights instead of the Sky but was not sure about the shimmer and they were a bit too expensive if I wanted to get the Kessils as well.

I was thinking of filling in the gaps with Kessils too, but I realllllly like how quiet these are so I’m getting a third Straton. There is some shimmer, but not a lot, and not as much as a Radion or Kessil would give. It’s a very dispersed light, which reduces shimmer. A point source of light like the plasma in a metal halide bulb or a small kessil like cluster of leds will give the most shimmer.

They're on their site under "Lighting", at least in the North American ATI website - www.atinorthamerica.com/lighting/straton/ I plan on doing a video specifically going through the software and all those controls. There is a lot you can customize, but it doesn't feel like overload like sometimes I get with GHL control panels.

@@ReefMan wasn't a few months ago in Europe just the it t5 led combos, for a light out so long at this stage and youtube videos are limited, only in German and most shops don't stock and said next to impossible to get. I hope your figures help me decide as I'm hoping to build a 9ft x 3ft x2.5ft reef at the end of next year, doing my own research into all equipment. These do tick the box so far

That sounds like an incredible tank! Do you have a thread anywhere I could follow along? I've seen more and more shops in the US with stock, so I wonder if the global chip shortage or the shipping issues effected ATI's stock levels. I agree though, they've been out over a year now, and so little information around is weird!

No thread yet, iv a garden room / man cave being built in April, I hope to share something on KZbin when its all done

Hi! Do these lights create shimmer? I cant handle shimmer. Looking towards neptune sky because they claim to be like t5 no shimmer

The Straton are a bit larger, so they'll be a bit more diffuse. The Sky covers a rectangular area - it's a rectangle, not a square - so also a minor difference. For me, the big thing is the Sky has fans - nearly silent is not silent. At least the Sky's fans are on the top like only the most recent Radion generation, so they should stay a little cleaner. I found it really hard to clean my Radion's fans and such, so I didn't do it as often as I could have. The Straton is just one slab of metal and plastic, so cleaning it is just grabbing a damp rag and wiping it down - couldn't be easier, and nothing to disassemble.
