I lived on the island of koh toa for three months a few years ago, i had my phone stolen by a French woman’s son at the sairee hotel. An incredibly kind Thai woman drove me on her bike to the police station which is exactly what is shown on this documentary, six police officers in tshirts smoking cigarettes outside their 12x10 office building. It goes without saying they couldn’t really help me, nor did they attempt to try. The island definitely isn’t equipped for dealing with casualties or murders.. There were also stories of tourists going to visit the “high” bars (where you can get magic mushroom shakes and marijuana joints) where the “police” would set up checkpoints and bust people for having weed. They would put them in jail for days on end or create a monetary bargain. This is speculated how the mafia make a lot of their money, ripping off any tourists of their farang money. The island is amazing but definitely keep your wits about you..
@jefflinton Жыл бұрын
The island is run by two huge Thai mafia families. Unfortunately these two people insulted the son of one of the top men or his brother in the organisation. The brother fled and filmed on the street cam but it's not shown. They chopped Hannah's head off from above the eyebrows and left her spreadeagled. David was chopped his head with something (supposedly a hoe) and he drowned on the shore.

I have been living in Thailand for half of my life, my last 4 years there even in prison for ridiculous allegations, so besides fluently knowing the language, I know them in and out, also their... "justice system". At that time, I traveled to Ko Tao to investigate on my own, talked to the local people and there living foreigners and got somehow my conclusion. Just after getting to know a civil servant who originally worked on Koh Tao earlier and knew all the big people there, and he "invited" me to help him in his work as a translator, I found out that the very dangerous thing about Thailand is, that the Mafia... IS the leading stage of government officials themselves, he included. He told me everything about the murderer, how they faked the evidence, it's a common thing in Thailand. Prisons are full of people who haven´t done the alleged crime. The best thing is just NOT to travel to Thailand. They're more hypocritic than the Pharisees and true... they have little to no regard to human life. The two poor Burmese guys haven´t done this, but were found guilty till the Supreme court and waiting to be killed, or go crazy in a there ending life in prison... a hell no one wants to be.

Yes, you should not take any prescription meds & then drink alcohol, but they would not cause a person to do all that. How she died, brutally murdered & then hung up there as if it was suicide. Umm no. 1st off, if she was all messed up & completely annihilated from the combination of way too many drugs & alcohol, her hand coordination w/ her mind would not be able to put together that type of a scenario. They're being charged because of the following evidence 1. CCTV footage shows they were entering to the crime scene that night 2. CCTV footage from 7-Eleven store shows they bought cigarettes (same brand found at the crime scene) 3. DNA found in vagina match both of them 4. Cigarette butts found at the crime scene match both of them 5. David's IPhone was buried at their renting house. Have you ever heard all of these information before? DNA fingerprinting results are automatically saved to computer and if someone try to falsify the results, it would be easily detected. The DNA tests were completed at least 10 days before they were arrested.
@mtha77963 жыл бұрын
After being arrested they confessed and admitted to committing a crime. Why they recant their statement? Because their lawyer told them so as there is evidence linked to rape only, not murder. @36.44 is the wedge used to commit murder while the victims were having sex. Both victims have severe head injuries. Only the victims' DNA were detected from the wedge. Of course two men with one wedge VS people having sex. So these two Burmeses did not have any bleeding. However, all pieces of scientific and circumstantial evidence was enough to support the murder charge against them.

Thank you for the facts not reported by this documentary, towards the end of the documentary the family of the young man gave a public statement saying through out the trial the evidences from the prosecution were overwhelmingly convincing. In regards to the documentary title, Koh Tao is far from being paradisiacal. I've lived in Thailand for 4 years and have visited Koh Tao many times, and no, it's not paradise, it's simply a cheap island for drinking and diving inexpensively, but neither its waters nor the island itself are paradisiacal. The same goes for Koh Samui or Koh Phangan; if someone wants paradise islands in Thailand, they have to go to the Andaman Sea.

Lived in Thailand for 15 years. Never an issue. But you pick where you go and who you associate with. Same danger as any place. You go to a party place, such as Kho Tao, Kho Samui, etc. typically laws aren't as strictly enforced and crimes are more common to occur. Watched this because I was curious to see how distorted they would make Thailand's CJS (granted, yes, there is corruption, and it runs differently than USA), like so many other films/documentaries/etc. Not that what happened wasn't tragic, no one deserves what they went through.

@@juanalbert3986 After being arrested they confessed and admitted to committing a crime.
