@@anniemac7585 if you’re in secondary school/college/6th form, I’d absolutely recommend trying to get into the Sutton Trust Summer School for Bristol! It’s a 10/10 experience and you get to speak to students in your stream of choice, fellow applicants, tutors, staff, so many people. I loved my experience with it, even though mine was online due to COVID (but they’re introducing in-person stuff again!) and it made me so comfortable in my choice with Bristol.

@@AtlasM0th I did the Sutton Trust Pathways to Law at Newcastle, and if you're interested in Law then definitely apply for whatever Uni you can. It was a great experience to find out more about the legal sector and completely confirmed what I wanted to do. There were meant to be visits to various legal places and work experience but mostly cancelled because of covid, but even without those it was so worth it Also it looks great on your personal statement :)

Thank you!

i honestly need this rn. i'm currently on semester break from uni and basically have no assignments or other responsibilities until classes start again and yet i cannot enjoy this break because every day i am so consumed by guilt of not doing anything "productive" (which.. i am literally learning a new language by myself but of course that "doesn't count" bc i'm just doing it for fun). being surrounded by so much toxic positivity and toxic productivity online, seeing "15 hour study vlogs" on my recommended page every time i open youtube, it just makes me feel like is should put extra work on myself and i can't rest the way i should
@merrybryson6789
@merrybryson6789 3 жыл бұрын
I 100% get where you are coming from. I’m at uni too and I found the transition for sixth form to uni so so hard. I feel like if I’m not crouched over a desk for like 12 hours in a library then I’m not really doing enough, trying hard enough and especially with the pandemic its so easy to feel isolated and not know if I’m going enough. I know that study-tube and all the videos on different study techniques with piles of colour coordinated handwritten notes that look perfect have massively affected me. Plus its mixed in with huge bouts of imposter syndrome and procrastination which for me acts like some odd neurotic self-defence mechanism (because everything I do is wound up with my self worth... so if i put it off it can’t affect my self esteem, if that makes sense!?!) . If any of those studytube videos pop up in my recommendations I select ‘don’t recommend again’! But just known you’re not alone! We’ll get though this some how and taking time out for ourselves isn’t bad (that’s what I keep telling myself!) xx

Something really important, that most don't talk about it. It feels like if you're not productive you're a burden to the society. And maybe, sometimes, we just need a time off. And that depends on the person, so we shouldn't be judging. Congrats Eve, a true queen

The message in this video is so powerful, a message which is rather unspoken of. Productivity is a mere construct, which goes hand in hand with peer pressure. As a student, the feeling of not doing enough or not being as productive as other students is in every piece of work I do. I thrive on peer pressure. But at the end of the day, it is toxic and damaging for one´s mental health, and for that, we shall break out of the productivity echo chamber! Well said eve, thank you for sharing such a strong message!

Walking is quite productive but in a totally different way. Walking gives you mind time to think about things but do not let it carry you away. In the Netherlands we have a saying called “uitwaaien” and it doesn’t have a translation. However it comes down to going for a walk through a parc or forest or along the beach. In a city along the river if it has one for example. It helps to relieve stress that is created in our daily lives.

The timing here was incredible, me and my best friend were literally just talking about this while trying to work on a uni project. Since we've known each other we do our almost daily sessions of what we call "retirement" (tbh, very fitting considering what was said) which is really just playing games and being dumb, because we admittedly are both workaholics and it's a wonderful way to switch off. It's really refreshing to hear about this from someone who I've looked up to for many years as being productive, successful, and motivational. In general it's good for people to aspire to 'greatness', of course it is, life is about finding happiness and if productivity is part of that then that's great! As you say the issue arises from placing unrealistic, mentally and physically unhealthy beahviours at the forefront and praising those as "the ideal" and something everyone should be trying to reach above all else. It's incredibly damaging and ultimately unattainable to live that way and calling it out helps people realise it doesn't have to be this way. Thank you Eve for talking about this, you really are a gem

it’s refreshing to hear you talking about how toxic productivity can be. I felt like a lot of YT is focused on being ‘the most productive’ but in reality, especially during this time, it’s important to just do what you (as an individual) can do opposed to what someone online pretends to be doing at 3/4am everyday. Plus like you said to schedule downtime in ftw 👌🏽

Thank u for talking about the privilige factor. I feel like a lot of people think that if u just work hard enough u can get wherever and although u should work hard to get what u want in life that shouldn't be the whole purpose of ur life

we live for bon iver 🙌 love the message of this video warning people of the dangers and unrealistic of "the grind". Ties into mental health too, sometimes getting out of bed is a good day, the last thing you wanna see is people running 10k every morning with a laptop running a successful business like it's nothing. Hope y'all cells are making it through the days on this space rock
