Imagine the very moment the recording engineer hit that open hi-hat irl, meekly thinking "egh, that could work" and it winds up being one of the most perfect drum sounds ever that INSTANTLY is associated with dancing.

@uritaanach13773 ай бұрын
@@jonirischx8925then how can you tell that I'm wrong? the 909 is incredibly versatile and works well under heavy compression, while using a big reverb, also the controls for each sound allow for it to be used a lot of different genres, it can go from mimicking a live acoustic drum set, to having the most iconic drum machine sound there is.

Personally this drum machine hasn't aged well compared to other famous drum machines like the 808, the Linn, and EMU. It just sounds like so many cheesy 90s dance tracks. I don't hate it though, like you said, there's a ton of classic electronic music that uses the 909, like revolution 909 by daft punk, but those songs usually mix the drum sounds enough so that it sounds unique. I think I just don't like the raw drum samples.
@churricardo14573 ай бұрын
Yeah, I’d say it’s mostly it being less versatile. I can’t imagine making a hardcore track or old school dance track without it, but it has very limited use for something like hiphop. Although there are some examples like Mica Levi / Micachu using it in her beats. The toms are very underrated though, more people should use those
@isaiahromero98613 ай бұрын
@@churricardo1457 true. The toms are nice, and I also love the open hat, absolutely iconic. The side stick is also really good. I think for me it mainly comes down to the kick and the snare, like you said, it's not a very versatile sound, but when it's used in an appropriate context it can sound fantastic.
