Havent heard his earlier recordings, but his voice and style was made for the mid-late 80s music. Gone way too soon. Sadly only ever saw him one time on stage, where he joined the mighty diamonds for two or three songs in london in 1989. Nice to see him still remembered in 2024.

Very sad. R.I.P Nitty Gritty. I'd be saying the same if Supercat were the one gone. It's good to bear in mind that many artists have been through a lot & are themselves tough and dangerous. Mr. Maragh's irascibility isn't hidden. "If a guy walk, massa God 'im a go fly. Cos them no run tings, mi seh neither I&I" (Jah run tings) "The night before the dance say the goat im did a walk and night of the dance, sey di goat throat c*t off...a bwoy try something an im throat mi cut it off" (Oh it's you). Wow.. I had no idea that was how it actually went down. I'd heard the story about the car somewhere along the way but not how it ended. As an aside - I haven't heard any real claims that Super Cat was involved in Tenor Saw's death. The only credible theory I heard in Tenor Saw's death was it was a concert promoter in Houston that he'd had an argument with over money. But I don't think there's any direct evidence.

Ohhh, I never knew the Junior Cat part. I also thought it was bullets that caused Nitty Gritty's demise. I'd heard Supercat was suspected of killing Tenor Saw. While I hope it's not true I dont underestimate anyone. However, Supercat gives him a shout-out on "Nuff man a dead", which would be diabolical, if he did it. I admit because I like him, I choose to believe he didn't.
