I was amused to hear the exclamations made at the time calling Thomas "You Villain". Oh and him being heard to say he would "knock her neck out". Not phrases you hear these days and gives us a feel of how things were back then. Clearly the prospect of hanging made no difference to the behaviours of people. This was another fascinating delve into the past. Thank you.

Thank you. Yes I often find some of the things said in these old cases very odd, I see things that my Nanna would have said when she was younger. I can't imagine anyone calling someone a villain these days, I am sure it would be much worse.

Death by misadventure, correct verdict.

I have to admit I don't think the jury could have really come to any other verdict, the evidence was just not good enough.

If there was nobody sure that Thomas kicked her down the stairs. There were no witnesses to the murder. Not guilty is the only course of action. The lady was so drunk that she could have fell on her own. Other than they were heard to argue prior to her death. That is the only indication that Thomas was upset with her!

Yes it is true to say that no-one really seemed to know for sure what happened on the stairs that day.

Good evening, Julie. A rabid prohibitionist/teetotaller would, I suppose, call Jane's fate "the wages of sin"; I will just call it a tragedy. Jn the absence of any witnesses,to the fall, and several to her alcoholism, accidental death is the right conclusion. Thank you, Julie, for yet another sad case and all the effort you put into it. Goodnight, until next time. 👍👏⚘

Sadly I know exactly what you mean, so many people in the past seemed to be sadly addicted to drink and it really did cause a lot of problems for many. Thank you so much for watching.

I think it's the right verdict and if it isn't, there's not enough evidence.

Yes, I agree, there's not enough evidence to really prove any guilt in this case.

Bizarre case this one. There's absolutely no evidence of foul play or the like from what you said. Accidental death or Death by Misadventure might be more accurate than Manslaughter

Yes this was again one where the evidence was quite strange and confusing. I would not have liked to be a jury member in a lot of these cases.
