Thank you so much for covering my sister's case, Kendall. You have been so gracious and kind throughout this process. So,lemme get this straight. This guy has a history of abuse, and then his girlfriend ends up dead after being beaten up and left for six days...and doctors...medical professionals say it was no falling accident, And found old bruises. And the authorities are still like "no sufficient evidence". When they do convict people and send them to prison on less evidence. The detectives and the attorney should step down. And never be allowed to hold a public office of any kind ever again.

This is why I've considered myself a feminist since I was a teen in a home with domestic violence. The abuse is bad enough, but when multiple people (usually men) in power protect the abuser, that's systemic. These cops identified with the abuser, and probably for good reason. Their attitudes and inaction really shook me up, even worse than the horrific abuse Melissa endured, because they were supposed to be the sane ones, the ones to "protect and serve." I know cops can be awful, but how do you not react to what that man did? Where is their basic human decency?

True but also how many people get to live through that and then still lie? Melissa could have been honest. Without a complaining witness the cops don't do much but if she were honest maybe she'd have justice. She didn't seem to want it and that's her choice I guess. It's awful for the family but she did have a chance most murder victims never get and she did not take it. When you lie and explain away your injuries it casts "reasonable doubt" so because she lied, they couldn't convict him "beyond a reasonable doubt" so they didn't even bother. Would have been night and day if she'd admitted what happened and not just to family. Let that be a lesson to always tell the truth and never cover for someone, you may not get another chance. But she got what she wanted, I guess, he is a free man, either she was too afraid or she loved him too much to send him to jail, and if it's the latter, at least she got a choice. I dunno I'm mad as hell, I live in this county and I'd like to think complaining witness or not, the cops would do something but they seem to always want to do the least.

I think it's a bit too convenient that she told her family what actually happened, knowing they weren't going to protect the guy, like knowing that it's over, knowing the police would know too, and yet the cops claim that she said she "fell"? After first saying "car accident"? I have some serious suspicions. Like.. did she ever even actually say that stuff to the cops? Or were the police not being honest about what she was telling them? She was out of it, so they probably knew they could get away with it. I know it sounds crazy.. but not as crazy as the police DEFENDING a man who left someone he's supposed to love for dead.. I think this case is even more important than people realise, because it shows the complete lack of care and interest from police, when the victim of a crime has drug or alcohol problems. Same applies with felons, color, gender, when, where, how, who, age, richer people get away with crime more often, (or at least get less of a sentence) in a mostly black or white country, they will see another race possibly as gangsters or criminals. (Not limited to any race on either side) also with age, old or very young get more attention than middle aged people, and that’s not right, even if this means their age is more defenseless. Police also will purposely put less effort into a case that has had an injury or fatality to criminals, because they are just thinking that there will be less crimes/criminals to deal with. And some countries do not actually care for their people/community, this applies to Soviet Union. They have not done anything to help or heal persons of their rule. Humans are humans. It’s sad to see this, ‘picking’ people to see as more important. No one knows what’s really going on to them. Mental issues can cause smoking issues, drug issues, liquor. But some people don’t want to see it that way, because of greed, though it’s normal behavior, we all know it’s wrong. We all know we shouldn’t do it, but we choose. Mood also affects what you do. But you still know wrong and right.

As a law student who plans to specialize in criminal law, I can't possibly imagine that this isn't a case of manslaughter. The boyfriend failed to act when Melissa was broken and bruised, and as far as I know, manslaughter by omission is still a punishable offense. Basically, if a person has a duty of care (which he did because he's her boyfriend) and they are negligent towards the victim and cause the victim to die, they can definitely be charged and tried for manslaughter by gross negligence. There's no way he should've walked free. EVEN IF she actually did fall in the bathroom, the fact that he did not call an ambulance or take her to the hospital is reason enough to charge him with manslaughter.

If you are in the position, you are so terrified that no one will be believe you. Your abuser makes you think no one will believe you. It is mental abuse as well as physical abuse. It is so devastating that people do this to another human being so regularly. I myself have survived domestic violence and it is not as simple as walking away. You are so scared your abuser will find you and things will be made so much worse if talk out.

As a person that has suffered domestic violence I was constantly scared he would threaten me that if I had told anyone he would do the worse things to me. If I had even talked to a family member I was drugged by him and raped he would smash plates and cut me I had broken bones from him. I was scared for my life and I had a son. I finally got out of that relationship about 2 years of being together. After years of the mental and physical abuse I was done dating I'm only 18 and it hurt me that there was times he would tie my son to a chair and make him watch what he would do to me. That man was the reason I have PTSD

If Melissa's family sees this, I really recommend asking Stephanie Harlowe to cover her case as well. She doesn't have as many followers as Kendall, but she has one of the best subscriber communities on YT. Thank you both for shedding light on domestic abuse. I got out with my life, but so many do not. Run, I am telling you all, whatever your age or gender or circumstance or however much you love your abuser (I loved mine) even if you're tough as nails, you WILL BE 100% positive they won't "really" hurt you... until they do, and it will only be up to chance at that point if you survive or not. You are loved, please get out, ask for help.

I mean there was a time I'd have asked this too even though I've seen it happen. But after last summer while the world watched on international news coverage how too many law enforcement officials treat the humanity they've sworn to protect and serve... it's a roll of the dice. Pray you live by the right department and get the right officer from that department. Know that odds are you won't. Try to have a backup plan. What we really NEED to instill in women (yes i know it happens to men too, but by and large it's girls and women) is all the red flags to watch for BEFORE they're deep in a relationship and hopelessly entangled. That turned out to be the best way to fight to keep my daughters from turning into me. Thing is, had i not eventually made it to a shelter and received some education as well as heard other women essentially telling my story with a few variations, it's likely I STILL wouldn't know these guys follow a pattern like they have a manual. We don't. No one knew to teach me. As millions of women still become embroiled, clearly moat of us are never taught what could ultimately save our lives.

Right? The police said that he "cared for her"?! No. To live with that stench, to watch someone who you're in a relationship with who you're supposed to care about go through that kind of pain and suffering and to not say anything to anyone is INSANE and he should at least go to jail for that. Also for his ex wives's statements about his abuse were blatantly not considered. That kind of behavior does not disappear overnight. This case makes me sick and not that many do that anymore.
