A beautiful love story laced with human sadness, artistic brilliance and success. Love them both. Together and separate. Enjoyed (still) Steve’s frequent appearances in TV specials and other shows. A very amazing affinity seemed obvious between him and Carol Burnett and their comedy sketches were adorable. Hard to say goodbye, but we can cherish the reality of his music and effervescent presence he added to our world. God bless them!

Thank you for this tidbit. I love finding out stuff like this. I didn't know they'd been on the "Gary Moore Show" and before they married. I was into Gary's show back when I was 9 or 10 along with Ed & the 2 game shows that had a bunch of celebrity guest, " I've Got A Secret" & "What's My Line". I'll have to look to see if any videos of their appearance on GM are on youtube. KZbin was made just for me. (lol) I may be a baby boomer from the Pop,Rock'n'Roll & Motown era but as a soul sister from DC my music favorites also included classical, grunge, metal and everything in-between including the music of River Dance, songs of Ireland, Choral & Celtic & show tunes. PBS was made just for me! (lol) Man do I love Music! Anyhoo along with Frankie, Sammy, Frankie Lane and everybody else(lol) I've loved Steve & Eydie madly since seeing them on Ed Sullivan & Johnny Carson over & over again. It was so wonderful to see a celebrity couple that STAYED in loved and adored their children! My heart broke when I read about the death of their son Michael. Both when they sang a song hooked you from the start. You loved it! Both could pull off any acting role! Both were super funny anytime they were on the Carol Burnette Show. Plus I also found out this week their son David wrote the music for The Disney channel film "High School Musical:" which I know all the songs by heart!! 💖Steve & Eydie are back together again & with Michael. May they forever Rest In Peace. 🙏

Steve and Eydie met working the Steve Allen Tonight show in the 50s. Steve had hits with Footsteps and Pretty Blue eyes, Portrait of My Love, as well as Go Away Little Girl. Steve and Eydie had a hit together with Blame it on the Bossa Nova. Steve and Eydie had another son David, who wasn't mentioned in this piece. As mentioned by others, their son Michael died in '86 (not '66). Eydie died in 2013 and Steve died in 2024 (not 2019). I had an album Steve's when I was a teen (would have had more, didn't have the money).

I remember seeing Steve and Eydie perform outdoors at The Minnesota State Fair with full orchestra and it was like a medley of hits format. They would open with "This Could Be The Start of Something BiG" and then they would alternate solo renditions of their many hits. he would do a few, she would do a few and then they would do a couple of duets. This would continue for the next 75 minutes followed by fireworks as the sun set in back of the stage located on the auto race track. I can't remember who the warm-up act was, I'm suspecting it was a comedian . . . could have been Charlie Callas or similar. It was unusual to see Steve in tux and Eydie in gowns during the last week of September. But the audience was very appreciative and Steve was funny and witty and did most of the commentary in addition to the charts he sang. My favorite was "The Drifter". The one thing I remember was the orchestra was surrounded by curtain on 3 sides and occasionally a gust of wind would blown open the space between the pieces of convention booth curtain. At least once, the gust of wind was substantial enough to reveal a large canister of Oxygen off stage and supposedly out-of-sight. It revealed poor Eydie sucking OXYGEN from a gas mask, while Steve was on-stage finishing up his rotation of songs, prior to Eydie rejoining him to continue the show. I don't know if she was a smoker or was dealing with anything more serious than respiratory problems. It was sad to see but she was a fighter and a great talent too. I was a fan of them both and I heard that Frank Sinatra willed Steve his entire library of charts upon Frank's passing and I was told that FS was a big admirer of Steve and his talent. The day after Frank's death, a huge truck pulled up in front of Steve and Eydie's home in Palm Springs and unloaded thousands of sheets of orchestra parts written and arranged by some of the greatest composers and arrangers in the world. I wonder where those charts are today? R.I.P. Steve, Eydie and of course Frank.

In the early 1980's, my husband and I use to always stay at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas when we visited. They had one casual cafe and then a high end restaurant. One morning we had just finished breakfast at the cafe and went to return to the room. A couple left in front of us and headed to the elevator. As we waited I thought the man looked familiar. We got on the elevator, just the 4 of us and they turned around. Steve and Edie! He knew I recognized them and he ask us if we were enjoying our stay. I said yes and meeting them in person was a highlight. They were both very personable and nice as could be. I wished them well and we got off the elevator. They were not stuck up at all. I did not ask for an autograph! I didn't know they were the Desert Inn's entertainment that week. On another visit, we went to the pool and and were relaxing. There were some kids playing in the pool. I heard a voice that sounded so familiar talking to the kids. I looked over and we were next to the Smothers Brothers, their wives and kids. They, too, were the entertainment for the week. It was awesome to eat and be at the pool with celebrities. This was before cell phones had cameras and people didn't bother the celebrities. My last encounter was at the Mirage when we were at a blackjack table. After we sat down they came along an cordoned off our table and the one next to it which was not in use. All of a sudden a guy sat at one end and a lady at the other. In a couple minutes I heard someone at the table say, that's Micheal Jordan. In fact, it was. He had his own table and a shill sat at the other end. You can tell you're right when sitting down he's taller than most people standing around him. He would acknowledge if you said hi with a head nod, but he was into gambling. Those were good memories that wouldn't happen today, because the public is so rude and pushy. Another
