With the release of Gen 9 Indigo Disk DLC, the meta game has been vastly changing every minute. However, not all the older Pokemon have been competitively good as while Deoxys-Speed has been an amazing addition into the OU tier, the defense form on the other hand has had a very lackluster start. A once Uber Pokemon 2 generations ago is struggling to even keep up with OU. Let me know in the comments below what you guys think of Deoxys-Defense in Gen 9.

A: Well surprise its me playing as the opponent as well and having Pokemon faint every 5 seconds isn't as fun as seeing the Pokemon do something in the battle for some time, which is why the gameplay seems like the opponent is braindead. Although I have taken some feedback and have tried to make it more interesting as possible without making the Pokemon faint every 5 seconds for hopefully better entertainment.

If it had 50 in it's offenses and 180 in it's defenses, it would definitely be better, as it stands the thing's bulk is in the same ballpark as a fully defensive Mew or Toxapex (it's higher but not by that much), if it had 180 then you would see a difference. It wouldn't solve many of it's issues, but at least it would definitely have gargantuan raw bulk

The thing is is that Deoxy-D doesn't really suffer from bland a movepool since it has in Knock Off, Screens, Recover, Psychic Noise, Cosmic Power, and Psycho Boost for some burst damage. But most importantly it has TELEPORT which is a very rare move in gen 9 and a great momentum tool. It's sad that's not still enough for OU.

Considering that this mon was RUBL in last gen's NatDex (and in this gen's as well funnily enough), back when it had pre-nerf Recover PP, lack of top tier Encore users, and access to Toxic, I was already sensing that this mon was going to return with very notable issues it had to deal with. Being a defensive Psychic type is always going to come with significant problems, especially since OU has been more Dark and Ghost infested since gen 8, with increased usage of U-turn users since the past few generations as well.

Ultimately I kinda feel like deo d is getting a little blown past atm, given it has the exact same movepool and general capabilities as deo-s, but it really doesn’t get any chance to actually use those things because. Deo S is in the tier and does effectively everything you could ever want out of Deo D in this super offensive metagame and SO MUCH MORE. As a result I kinda feel like in terms of Deo D we just have to wait and see how it starts to pan out once Deo S inevitably gets the boot, and its traits actually become kinda unique and valuable again. Like you said, spikes and recovery is a rare combination, and knock is a great way of forcing pressure without doing direct damage, while also making ghold not love to switch in all the time, especially if tera is in play. Overall, I don’t see it being overwhelming at all even in a more settled meta, but I do think it absolutely has a place in the tier once Deo S is gone and people like. Actually look at what its capable of. But that’s just me

Deoxys is a pokemon that I've always found super cool but hardly ever used. Got it back in gen 3 via hacked event and got to play around with the two current ou forms back when it was game exclusive. Deo-D really does feel like it needs something more, an ability, small stat optimisations, a couple moves like body press etc.

You could argue that Psychic is the worst type in the game right now. Defensively it only resists itself (which isn't worth much) and Fighting, so it provides nothing that a Fairy or Ghost couldn't do better. Offensively it's only notably strong against Poison, but with how central Ground types are in every tier you're gonna have something for Poisons regardless. Bug at least has a useful Ground resistance and STAB on strong moves like U-Turn as well as being good against Dark, and Ice is great offensively and got a huge defensive buff in Snow.

Deo-D is heavily outclassed by Deo-S. If Deo-S is ever viewed as banworthy in the future and ends up going back to ubers, Deo-D would just replace it with a slight change in how its used. The main point in Deo-Ds strength is that 90 base speed as a defensive hazard setter. Its large base defenses mean that you dont need to invest heavily in them and can spare evs to take advantage of that speed stat, unlike other setters.

When I was younger, I got Pokédex 3D Pro on the 3DS and noticed Deoxys got the number one score in both attacks and speed. Naturally, I thought its defense form would win in that too, and then I saw this strange looking creature named Shuckle winning and Deoxys Defense a fair ways off. In that sense, Deoxys Defense was always a little disappointing to me, even when I knew absolutely nothing about competitive Pokémon

It really sucks that Deoxys-D is stuck with 50 base HP like the rest of its formes, which means its great 160 Def/Sp. Def kinda go to waste; if only it sacrificed some more Atk/Sp. Atk in exchange more more HP... It'd be definitely better at being "Defensive" if it had 90 HP in exchange for 50 Atk/Sp. Atk (-20 for each, +40 to HP).

Every time Deo-D and Deo-S shared a tier Deo-S has always taken D's spotlight. It's mostly just opportunity cost, not really Deo-D being bad. Back during XY, Deo-D fell to UU pretty fast before Deo-S was banned, but afterwards, it pretty much replaced Deo-S as a hazard lead that could also run random coverage moves to snipe removers or gimp opposing leads. Deo-S just simply does the hazard/support role better because of its Speed and higher offensive capabilities. I don't think Deo-D would still be as good as it was in previous gens, but it would 1000% have a strong niche in OU if Deo-S were to ever get banned. If meta becomes a lot more centered around balance and bulky offense, this also works much more in Deo-D's favor, but once again, still depends mostly on Deo-S not existing in the tier.

This. I'm glad people are finally coming to their senses about the absolutely horrid (relatively) pokemon languishing in FF- viability in Ubers, that range between being okay in OU, to not even being viable in the tier, even if it's like two generations late. Hopefully UUbers will help make this more apparent;the tier being 90% Primal Groudon, Zacian, and Xerneas, with most everything else being equally unviable for a while clouded things, but UUbers removes those, and really lets the terrible boxart boys and grandfathered Ubers residents shine as being terrible. I can't wait to see what drops as tiers stabilize and the new pokemon settle. My money is on maybe Giratina-O or Dialga-O.

On its defensive sets sure, it would be a worse pex. But it's ability to set, reset and keep up rocks/spikes (faster than = can taunt nearly all defoggers) enables offense far, FAR too much in any metagame without heavy duty boots, so it's not gonna be unbanned in any gen without them.

For me deoxys-D was always a bag full of nothing, a pokemon that looks really good from outside but when you use it you realise that in reality it has almost nothing to offer, pure psychic ia just a bad typing for a defensive pokemon and not amounts of good moves can compensate that, we just got to the moment when the power level was high enough that most deoxys forms don't have to be ubers just bu their high stats

Each deoxys form needs a buff, For example his DEF form can use an extra 30hp while he sacrifices 15atk and sp atk, and also a new ability like magic bounce so toxic can’t work on him and be a stalling wall.
