Ya'll my grandma calls me every morning to make sure I'm up for work since its one of my biggest fear that I will over sleep and miss work, (especially when I was working and in school full time and sleep was minimal) It's really sweet, I get to talk to her every morning. anyway...I called out sick to work one time because I was feeling like trash. I texted my grandma to let her know, but in my sick sleep state, I didn't actually hit send and it was the rare night where I somehow didn't plug my phone in before bed, thinking it was charged enough. I didn't answer her wake up call, because my phone died and then the next thing I know my co worker is knocking on my door (I work at an apartment community that I live at) because I didn't answer and even tho my work told her I called out sick she was so worried that something bad had happened to me.. long story short, grateful that if I go missing someone is going to know ASAP lol...

Im still confused about the logistics of this case though. Where was the family actually killed? Police apparently let the family of the victims inside where they cleaned up and took things from the home. If summer, Joseph, and the kids were bludgeoned there would be blood everywhere!! And there wasn’t any in the house? Did chase get all the 4 of them to another location and kill them there? But then how would one person be able to control a group of 4 people like that? I believe the chase killed the mcstay family but I don’t understand how it happened.

I worked for Charles Merritt’s defense attorney shortly after this trial ended. Bella did an amazing job with the details of this case, basically everything was spot on. I truly believe Merritt is innocent, that is my opinion. Joseph’s family is not as close as they were made out to be. There was actually a lot of jealousy between Joseph and his brother Michael. I’d like to know what Michael did with Joseph’s computer when he had it. There was a lot of favoritism from the court in the trial towards the prosecution, including prosecutorial misconduct. Dan Kavanaugh actually sold Joseph’s company shortly after they went missing and was in Hawaii for a while, then went MIA for a long time. There was 3 DNA samples found on the sledge hammer that were never tested. The phone tower satellites where Merritt’s phone pinged were actually on opposite sides, therefore his phone would have pinged where his sister lived, not near the grave sites. There is a pretty good docuseries on Discovery+ called Two Shallow Graves. It gives a lot of insight on the trial and the animosity between the DA and defense. You can also watch days of the trial on Law and Crime Network.

And wasn't it Chase that said it was not the family crossing the border to Mexico on the cctv? It would have been so easy to say yes that's them and deflect the suspension on him. He could have hired somebody to kill joseph and that went wrong. And really 10 days and the family does nothing???

Idk what to think about this one. I do not think Chase worked alone, I do think however he did carry out the murders. The brother not calling the police right away, getting into the home and getting the computer, like out of the things why that? They did cleaned the house, reason there was no signs of blood anywhere. Maybe they were not even murdered in the house, but how could one men carry all 4? and if he had a gun, why not use it to carry out the murders instead of a sledgehammer? The other guy Dan sold the company right after, which makes me believe they all had something to gain.

I feel like if the case wasn't turned over to the FBI, there's a very high chance that the case wouldn't have been solved and would continue to be unsolved. Chase wouldn't be in prison right now either. I think Joseph told Chase he would turn him in for embezzlement was most likely the stepping stone and the motive for the crime. But I also think there was another motive as well. He was borrowing money from him and he wouldn't have been able to pay him back ever, so he thought if Joseph was out of the picture, he can continue working at the business and also won't have to pay all the money back. It's so sad that he didn't just kill his work partner and friend but also his wife and children. How messed up is that? I think he murdered the rest of the family, so they won't be witnesses to what happened to Joseph. It's just so heartbreaking. I don't understand how he could do something that horrific. What did the little ones ever do? Their lives couldn't be spared at least? I'm glad this case was finally solved and the person responsible for the gruesome crime is behind bars and will never get out. He's on death row but sadly it would never happen because in California, our current governor abolished the death penalty so all the inmates awaiting their execution date will continue to live on and spend the rest of their loves in prison.

Her daughter told authorities to get into her moms house by any means necessary and authorities did it. They didn’t have to wait for search warrant. Sure enough my elderly neighbor was found dead on floor beside her bed. I will never understand people who kill for money. You KNOW you’re gonna get caught, then you’re broke and in prison

There is something so disturbing about a whole family vanishing and seemingly no one pays attention or cares

This case is so awful and horrific. The police really screwed up the investigation at the start but I am glad this case has now been solved. I hated the police who were not doing their jobs properly it was half assed and not thorough enough.

Another case of police incompetence..they let it go on for YEARS. And the nerve of that man to actually claim his innocence despite all the evidence. Full of misogyny too since he blamed Summer as soon as he could. Just unbelievable it took this long.
