In the original comic, the origin of Dr. Doom was more simple: he was an egomaniac who was warned by Mr. Fantastic not to mess with some magic stuff and then boom! Doom got a minor scratch on his face and just went full supervillain mode since then -- all because he knew Mr. Fantastic was smarter than him.
