I don't know why hearing about this made me cry a bit. Like, it's only an (incredibly cool) animatronic, but the fact she essentially "died" that way makes me sad.

I do hope that someday they create a new Maleficent dragon, it’s what makes Fantasmic so freaking amazing. Like yea, they don’t have to make a new one right now, but I do hope they can get the motivation to make one someday.

WDW News was more optimistic since while Disney said it wouldn't return they didn’t say it would NEVER return. Maybe they are just waiting until a new one is built.

​@@FM7Studios we have further evidence the Dragon will eventually return. While we did see get a photo of the new climax which has Maleficent in her regular form fight Mickey woth enached fire, projections, and lasers, Tobi Longo, who directs the show said this. “We’re excited for something to come back, and we’re in the works and working on it. But I think what I’ve done with that scene - that good versus evil and that battle between Maleficent and Mickey - is so spectacular. We all loved the dragon, and we’ll keep working on things, but there’s not much I can say about it.” This might be a sign something is being worked on. And it probably has something to do with the Dragon.

They're definitely bringing back the dragon - the "no dragon" version is just a temporary stand-in

When I first saw Dragon Murphy/Maleficent going up in flames, I thought it was a fake news article, but I was unfortunately wrong... The dragon was single handedly one of the best scenes in Fantasmic, and one of the reasons I love the show so much. I really hope Disney does something great to bring the dragon back, I mean, the show is still good, but the show just doesn't feel the same without her.

well to me it looks like maleficent got too much Mickey Power to be on fire that can be a different ending for Maleficent one ironically that ending is truly magical.

darn, that's such a shame to hear. Why is it every time we're promised a Dragon at a Disney park its never delivered, and when they do deliver its suddenly taken away from us, now im worried about the future for the Disneyland Paris dragon my take on Murphy's Law: What could Possibly go wrong?

Maleficent/Murphy the dragon is beautiful and as a Maleficent fan, I'm so sorry to the engineers for the dragons sudden ending! Hours of manpower along with millions of dollars gone down the drain and an important part of the character being kept from the public even though i do understand that health and safety comes first no matter what! All the best to Fantasmic 2024! Maleficent will be amazing as always no matter what the creative team decide for her and Mickey Mouse ❤❤ Maleficent, you're still my favorite Disney badass, I love you! 😘😘😘😘

UPDATE: The "new" ending is actually just an updated B mode much like the when Murphy was first set to arrive. (This is unless the actual ending is still having issues and hasn't been announced still, although unlikely.) This definitely points to the dragon making a return (most likely a new design) along with the ending still featuring the projection of the dragon. (The Aladdin segment has also been in B mode so the giant trap door might be out of commission all together for now as well.)

Another thing im not sure if I'm correct I belive disney just decided to edit out the jack sparrow segment and reuse the old peter pans segment audio which in it doesn't sound very well when mashed up with the new soundtrack

If you guys are wondering the fire cut off the power for the dragon to return back in to the point where it can be sent back into the PIT BUT if the dragon was able to return back into the point where the dragon can be sent back the dragon would have been sent under but the cast members stop the dragon before it could. the dragon was sent back into the pit but the head was not the dragon is still prob in the pit but its prob not true. the cause: the dragon was leaking some thing which when the dragon started to charge up the second fire shooting that's when it went wrong R.I.P Murphy we will miss you the show returns 2024 May 24th i think
