Rock was superb in the ultra-bleak "Seconds". It was a financial and critical flop but has been now acknowledged, as a classic. John Frankenheimer said the film went from cult to classic without passing through success. He never made a movie as demanding as "Seconds" again. It is his finest film.

I've heard in the early 80's rumors of a desease going around but never paid much attention to any of it, until Rock Hudson died, it was a turning point in the AIDS awareness, at first no one knew how it was transmitted but many people relaxed when it was believed you could only be at risk if one was a homosexual, but soon we found out that hemophiliacs were getting it too and then heterosexual people were also sick, that's when everyone started freaking out. To me the feeling at that time was like when a serial killer is on the lose in your town.

He's been dead for 35 years. Yes, the circumstances of his death were very tragic. And yes, it could have been handled differently, however, it was a completely different time in 1985; if you weren't there, I can't explain it for you to understand. Rock became a star during the Golden Age of Hollywood when the studio did everything for you--even dictating which parties you could show up at; that's the way it was. Yeah, they dictated Rock's "love life", but that did that to a lot of stars. Without the shelter of the studio, Rock would have been outed decades before the truth came out, and he would have been publicly shamed and condemned, and probably would have died forgotten in some alleyway or flea-bag hotel. Instead, he became the face of courage. And before any of you condemn the past for doxxing and cancelling someone for being homosexual, let me ask: Is it any different than the doxxing and cancelling that is happening today to people you don't like? Think about it before you throw a stone at the past; is your present any different?

@orlandovelez54122 жыл бұрын
And "so many (have) had to put up with abusive (WOMEN) in their lives." What's your point?!? That's NO excuse for relegating oneself to the status of 'victim.' We ALL have a CHOICE before us: TURN TO GOD; humble yourself, ask for His forgiveness through the name of Him through whom forgiveness of sins is made possible: Jesus Christ! THEN ... TRUST HIM to do for you what you cannot do for yourself: transform your life through His sanctification process! Alas, the God of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that this sounds "foolish."

I had no idea this was Rock Hudson and it didn’t take me long to become hooked to this character. Opposite him is of course John Wayne which makes this incredible film a two thumbs up winner! Wouldn’t listen to his good friends who did their best to convince him not to go. Which turned out to be a big mistake. And then he made an even Bigger mistake by going to Paris a couple days later for some experimental treatments that made things even worse. So he was kind of forced into making that statement that he had AIDS. He really didn’t want to but really had no choice.
