I went to a grey cup party just to watch this live. I had just seen them in Edmonton and was stoked they were playing the half time. However, most everyone at the party fucked off at half time to do other things, and it was me and 2 guys watching the hip play. One guy had never heard of the band and thought they sucked balls. I was appalled, and said I was a huge fan, had all their albums, and saw them live. He looked at me like I was stupid. 12 years later I seen them in Vancouver on their farewell tour. Best fucking time of my life, singing along with 17k fans!

Fuck that guy. You don't need negativity like that in your life. I discovered them in 1990. I grew up in Ohio on Lake Erie. I caught 95.9 fm out of London Ontario. They played the Hip and I was a fan for life. Saw them a few times live. Best concerts I've ever seen. Only band that ever matched them was Maiden. RIP, Gord. #InGordWeTrust Oh, and as an American, I actually know what the Grey Cup is. Huge Stampeders fan.

This version of 'Courage' brings me literal tears of joy...from the time Gord sings "There's no simple...explanation...for anything important any of us do..." on to the end of the song. Simply a brilliant tune from a brilliant band. Rock and roll has never been the same since I heard my first Hip song '700 Foot Ceiling' in 1996 on that Vancouver, B.C. radio station. Rock on!

Absolutely mind-blowingly brilliant music from my 3rd favorite rock band of all time. 1) Foghat 2) The Guess Who 3) The Tragically Hip 4) The Drive-By Truckers One of the bands is British, two are Canadian and only one is an American band. And I was born in America, still am American and always have been an American. It's not at all about what country the band comes from, it's all about the music produced by that particular band, for their lifetime. Period. Rock on brothers-in-rock!

@@jkljoshh When Lonesome Dave Peverett of Foghat died, the music died. When Rod Price died, the same. Those two musicians are the greatest ever in the history of recorded music. When Gordy died, it was absolutely awful. Gordon Downie was such a good writer and singer and basically because Dave and Rod were already gone, Gordon didn't have any competition, except for Burton Cummings of The Guess Who. But Gordon Downie was one of a kind. The Tragically Hip was my 3rd favorite rock band of all time. Here's my Top 3 list: 1) Foghat 2) The Guess Who 3) The Tragically Hip Every band and musician under these 3 bands falls anywhere and everywhere in my list. And it changes. @bwho I'll do you one better: The Hip's talent far exceeds that of any other band in history. Sure, The Beatles and a handful of others have had a significant impact on the evolution of music and pop culture but none have had more talent, energy, and timeless relevance than the "Group of Five". The Hip are perhaps the most under-rated band in the band in the world.

@bwho "Courage" is, in essence, based on a pivotal, climactic realization by the main character of the Hugh MacLennan novel "The Watch That Ends The Night". While "Gus" is politically motivated, "Courage" is more derivative of a bittersweet romantic sacrifice for the greater good.

They revolutionized music and went through numerous phases of music where they mastered each type. The pop phase (early), stoner rock (revolver), random stuff (sgt peppers/white album) and then rock with Abbey Road and Let it Be. Beatles were Genius's. Just because you like the hip more doesnt mean u can say they are better then the Beatles.
