Tom is always miles ahead everyone not simply because his knowledge (that is absolutely top notch) but mostly for his incredibile thought processes. In this "simple" 1h talk he delivered some wisdom and reasoning who can bring to the next level as a trainer and as a human being whoever succeed to fully grasp them. His online lectures are the best thing that an exercise professional could stamble upon. His attitude and roasting ability are top notch too, he's like the "The Rock from WWF Attitude Era" of exercise!

After I watched this, I got intrigued and checked out Joe's "Everything I Learned from Tom Purvis" video. I love Tom's the more you know, the less you know, humble mentality. RTS is now on my goals list.

Ben, I am watching your video conversation Tom Purvis and you are asking him about biochemical things in the body. Tom often talks about how frequently things change and one of the most profound changes that is not being addressed enough is the change in our environment and what it is doing to the body. Many years ago, if a person to make significant changes in their health and well-being, just eating healthier and exercising were enough to do that. However, we are now living in a very toxic environment and the worst of that toxicity is heavy metal toxicity, because it is in what we eat (regardless of how “healthy” a person believes they are eating), what we drink (there is only ONE source of water in the world that does NOT put heavy metals into the body), the air we breathe, the clothes we wear, the furniture and other things in our home that we touch, and all of the tech in our lives. It is getting into our body faster than the body can excrete it, and I am sharing this with you, Ben, because it affects exercise in a huge way. How much would your, and any other person’s, exercise be affected if there was a significant disruption of your ATP? The heavy metal, mercury, disrupts our ATP by replacing magnesium in ATP molecules, and ATP is our body’s “energy currency” because it is involved in so many processes in the body.

Tom mentioned Louie Simmons, who ran West Side Barbell here in Columbus, OH, and Louie bench pressing 700 lbs. and having horrible form. I don’t know if Tom knows this but Louie passes away on March 24th of last year due to health issues. Tom also mentioned John Blievernicht, and Tom and John were both instructors in the NASM Advanced Personal Trainer course, which was a 4-day event, with 3 days of instruction in the classroom and day 4 was both a written and practical exam. I took that exam back in 1994 and it began a long career in personal training. After Tom and John and others left NASM, that certification was never the same. I have been through levels 1 and 2 of the RTS program Tom created multiple times and it has made a huge difference in my career. Like you, Ben, I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity and privilege to learn from Tom Purvis!

The more you know, the less you know. You can learn a lot, but the key is to also understand what you learn and know how to apply it. That's a challenge. 🤗 You can study this all of your life, and never ever know it all, and that's what make me itrigued to learn more. 🤗

Tom is a beast of information and knowledge. I've been involved in RTS stuff for around 15 years. Mark Slavin from RTS is my close friend.

As for Ben’s dorsiflexion disparity what if the pelvis is off on the side with the limited ROM, causing muscle imbalances that lead to the ROM limitation.

With muscle being the most metabolically active tissue in the body, it should never get any more complicated than “make the muscles do the work” not momentum or other things!

Always top notch content and discussion. Thank you Ben and Tom. I was wondering if "harmony" might be a better articulation than "balance" as it relates to muscles around joints, from front to back, side to side, etc... Thoughts?

Any thoughts on Doug Brignole who recently wrote a game changing book (my opinion) called 'The Physics of Resistance Exercise'. I assume Doug & Tom are aligned from a bio mechanical perspective?

I wouldn't assume that tbh. Doug has some bs in his stuff. I wouldn't compare him at all with Tom I think Tom is just a different league

@@dualShockRK98 they both have similar years of real experience (a lot). There is no bs in Doug’s stuff. It’s all backed up by demonstrable science (the best exercises based on biomechanics, physics & neurology). Both are opinionated for good reason. Only problem I have with the Ben/Tom podcast is there wasn’t anything to take away other than a good discussion

@@jefflawrence1104 check coach kassem videos on doug stuff, and you will see the errors. Not saying everything is bs but some stuff is. At least in my opinion watching all things between the two. And doug didnt even accept to have a discussion with kassem on a podcast on youtube when he was invited, curious to know the reason for that.

@@dualShockRK98 Thanks, I will check it out. I've seen Doug in many podcasts where he has been challenged & he generally comes through them unscathed...but does admit he could have been less specific/more open in some instances. I've been working out for 40 years & since implementing Doug's 'Brig20' exercises, at 63, I'm actually increasing muscle & strength in my pecs, lats, quads & shoulders with zero joint pain. In fact it has re-habilitated my dodgy left shoulder that I impinged due to too many overhead presses. I didn't think that was possible as I'm not doing more volume or intensity - just better anatomical motion, efficiency & effectiveness....exactly as he says. The proof is in the pudding but each of us respond differently. What works for me may not for someone else

@@jefflawrence7707 I definitely believe what you say and I am not saying Doug is bad its just that imo there are better in the industry and I have read what Doug saysnfor many of his exercises, but I just feel like some of his analogies are quite bad, so for example when he says incline presses do not grow your clavicular chest? Well to say smth like that you need to mention the execution, you need to align your movement with your clavicular fibers properly, just putting a picture of a person in a highly abducted position in a 2d picture and say this isnt effective is not an analysis that I consider of high degree. I think if you like this stuff you will love both videos from kassem but also the one from doug as they went back and forth a bit

MOOOOOOST people won't be able to focus with intent on every single rep..I know I've tried and still do. How can you expect this from people who don't meditate or lack the skill of focus? Sure, you can make great gains in the gym, but if you want to push yourself and be excellent, at the top...it takes more out of the gym work to perform well in the gym. Imagine doing every single rep, for 10 times...5 sets and 4 more exercises..in a day, consistently a few days a week for years. It's not for everyone may I say :)
