This is really neat. Reminds me of the train sounds at my brothers cabin in Mariedamm. They put another track in and the Swedish Government paid for new double pane windows and insulation t his cabin. Looks like you have snow like us in Wyoming......first 1 inch or so this past week

I remember years ago visiting Finland--my mother's family were Swedes from Finland who came to the US in the 1890s--visiting my mother's cousins and looking at the old old houses my grandparents had lived in. There was even the "old house" where they had lived up until about 1750, a small log cabin now used for storing things, and it had poles with crispbread on them at ceiling height in a modern house. Old very large homes with only slight traces of red paint, one much too big to keep up and heat in the winter, and my grandfather's family had been very well off, but he got some fever from milk (possibly TB, but there were no tests back then) and they came to the US to live in the mountains for his health. Living in the mountains of the American West, I enjoy looking at the old homesteads, large and small, in the places that are not yet converted into a ski resort or old ranches sold off to make room for 50 second homes in the mountains.

This old abandoned house is very spooky Erik. Wonder how it came to be disused....still looks fairly solid...galvanised roof and guttering still good. Old barns seem to indicate it was a farm. Presumably the owner(s) died or went into old age care and had no-one to pass it onto? Love to know the story.

Ha, this is great! As a career freight railroader in California, I have become more interested in how Green Cargo operates their trains. My cousin recently retired with them after a lifetime of service near Stockholm. I like the electrification of the operation, and my cousin has previously answered my question about train length; the Green Cargo trains are shorter due to length of passing tracks (we call them sidings), but I didn't think to ask him about braking. In this video, we can see how quick and smooth the pulp wood train came to its final stop, which seems much more responsive than how the air brakes work on our freight trains. Do the freight cars have air-operated brakes? It may be the camera lens or angle, but it also looks like the size of the rail is lighter than what I am familiar with, and that indicates to me weight on axles must be lighter on their lines... but that was likely just the lighter rail put down for siding/passing tracks. Great job with 7103 at Umeå coming into view out of a curve. You paid attention to your camera angle allowing the gap of daylight to be seen between the top of the rail and the sill of the car body. Doing that helps sharpen the definition of the movement and speed of the train. Telephoto use dramatizes the intensity and business of the train. A lot of railfans miss those ideas.

The cars have an extra air feed pipe. It is rather common in Sweden for freight cars in unit trains. Also, the cars are in P brake mode, not G brake mode. The brake force for a 90 metric tons car is 72 tons. Such high and quick brake forces would nearly be impossibly in America with your train lengths.

@@spv1093 That's very interesting. I think I would like to learn more about that. I have no idea what that means. Many years ago a system was developed and tested here in the US that featured an electrical interface on each car's brake valve. When the locomotive engineer made a braking application, the typical ponderous air signal was not a part of it. Instead, a newly designed electrical signal quickly operated a new solenoid interface on each car so every brake was immediately applied, but gently. The long brake pipe through the whole train no longer served as a transmitter of brake pressures, but instead became, in effect, a giant reservoir of air to supply each car brake valve. It was an amazing improvement. But! It caused a much greater consumption of brake shoes, which cost money. So the railroads did not buy into it. They instead (and to this day) instruct us to use locomotive dynamic braking as much as possible.

No need to worry. I am one of the hundreds of thousands of Swedes who owns forests. "Just over 70 percent of Sweden's surface is covered by forest, which makes us Europe's second most forested country, just after Finland. Of Sweden's total land area of nearly 41 million hectares, approximately 28 million hectares are counted as forest land."
