You're correct in your interpretation. This is from the website Doolset Lyrics that has most of BTS' songs translated with cultural insights: Note: There’s an idiom “뱁새가 황새 따라가다 가랑이가 찢어진다,” meaning “If a crow-tit (or parrotbill) tries to follow a stork, it’ll split its legs.” It teaches how you should tailor your ambitions to the measure of your abilities or the resources given to you. BTS often call themselves as 뱁새 (crow-tits; pronounced baepsae): underdogs, those who started with disadvantages, the powerless in the society, and so on. (They nonetheless refuse to frame themselves within the limit of crow-tits. They rather challenge the norm and gladly split their legs. Though it’s painful and takes a whole lot more of efforts, they do succeed in walking along, or even past, storks.) 황새 (storks; pronounced hwangsae) in this context means those who are born with advantages. The contrast highlights the severe socioeconomic inequality in Korea. The English title of this song is Silver Spoon, which is synonymous with (inherited) wealth. This song (one of my Top Ten BTS songs, it's such a bop) actually changed my plans for retirement! My husband and I had aspired to invest in residential real estate: buying single-dwelling residential homes and renting them out for passive income....but the lyrics to this song helped me realize we would be contributing to a lack of starter homes for young couples and families to buy in order to begin their own futures and build their own equity. We decided that wouldn't be right or fair for us to do that to younger generations. So my husband and I agreed we would look elsewhere for opportunities to continue to make income during retirement

THANK YOU on behalf of the young people wherever you live!! Tourist/short-stay housing (airbnb mainly) have destroyed our chances at buying a home or rent as a single person where I live and driven longtime neighbors out of their homes, running from conflict, disturbance and garbage. This is why most big cities (at least in Europe) hate tourists and tourism.

BTS has a knack for putting fun choreography with songs that have a serious message. There is a video clip somewhere where Suga says that reason people like this song is because of Hobi’s hip thrusts. While he’s saying that, Hobi has his face right up, almost in the bowl of noodles that he’s eating because of embarrassment. It’s a cute little moment.

Obviously didn't see your reaction yet, dunno if you researched the history behind such tittle and stuff, but I can explain haha Baepsae is a crow-tit, a bird. In korean there's an idiom "뱁새가 황새 따라가다 가랑이가 찢어진다", which means "If a crow-tit tries to follow a stork, it will split its legs". Meaning your ambitions can only go as far as your resources. You can interpret a crow-tit as a try-hard or an underdog, who is at a disadvantage and has to exert extra effort to get the same results as storks, or in other words those who were born with privileges. Thus, calling themselves crow-tits from that idiom, BTS actually challenge the suggested frame of view, that tells them they better stick to what they have. They challenge the norms, while working extra to gain the same status. It can be applied to both their underdog story and the socioeconomic inequality in Korea, Baepsae is quite an anti establishment song another fun detail, imo, in Korean the song is named after Baepsae (Crow-tit) or an underdog, while in English the song is named Silver Spoon, referring to the opposite side of privilege born. it gives extra to the opposition of the classes

Ah, Baepsae! This is one the songs that made be ARMY. The tune, the lyrics, the meaning, the choreography and their playfulness with it all. It's perfect for me! BTS social commentary songs have a special place in my heart.💜

A crow tit is a small bird pretty like our Blue Tits Coaltits and Great Tits we find in our British Gardens. Crow tits are small and fluffy with tiny legs. Korea uses their in compassion to Storks who are large birds with long legs. They also use these 2 birds to discribe two age groups in South Korean society those who grew up in the boom of South Korean economy the Storks who bought up property and the new generation who find it harder and harder to obtain housing at a reasonable price this new generation is referred to the tiny fluffy Crow tit. No matter how much the crow tit tries to run along with the long legged Stork it will fail (break its tiny legs) This is used to describe how no matter how the older generation (the Storks) say work harder it's not going to work as many are already working more than two jobs and working as interns for no pay but hoping to get a position at the end of it. It's a social commentary. Go look up the Crow tit it's a real bird.

Context of the Korean work culture is so important. It is unlike anything we have in North America. The idea of going home before your boss, nah…..also drinks after work as a team often out late. Had a friend how work for GM as a senior director and was to,d you have to go out drinking and out drink your team. Very toxic. It might be slowly changing in some places but not all.

It’s impressive that you were still able to get the gist despite the wonky translation 😅. Also, I don’t know if you noticed, but the video (the original video not your reaction video) is very out of sync with the music so the dance doesn’t match the music correctly. So….why don’t you watch a live performance so you can get a true experience of the song? I suggest their concert medley- Dope+baepsae+fire+run. If you look up “eng sub” you can find versions of this performance with subtitles. It’s FIRE😁🔥

I'm a nerd, so I did a quick query to see what birds are related to tits that we might be more familiar with. I guess chickadees would be more commonly known? With respect, ALL of the content I react to is free on KZbin. What isn’t free, is MY thoughts and my opinions. Now, I would agree with you if I felt like I didn’t add much to the existing video, but since I do tend to ramble on and a lot of what I say is quite personal to me, I feel like MY content can go wherever it likes. I have never asked anyone to pay for anything. It’s merely there as an option for people who like my channel to support me. If you knew me or my channel at all, you’d know my integrity is my number one priority. If I didn’t at least respect BTS, I wouldn’t have them on my channel. I’ve stopped reacting to other bands for that exact reason, I wasn’t enjoying them and I didn’t wanna just use the fanbase to grow the channel. It’s not what I do.

Thing is, there are a LOT of reactors who run their reaction channels like a business and essentially make money off of BTS' success without giving back in any shape or form. I think it applies less to those who, like you, react to all kinds of artists. But it's quite a big problem within the ARMY space and it has left a lot of people wary of reaction channels in general. Don't be surprised if you get questioned about this and side-eyed in the future. I'm only mentioning this because I quite like your content so far and I hope we can all get along💜

@@kaliska. I do understand that, and I’d be pissed too if I thought my being a fan of something was being used against me to just mindlessly line someone’s pockets. Thing is, I kinda am tryna run this a bit like a business, but I also don’t wanna take the piss too much. That’s why I try and keep the channel diverse, and I really only follow through on the artists that I personally find interesting. Which isn’t even to say I love those artists, but if I find them really unique, and I feel like I can make good reactions from it, I keep doing it. There’s a whole area around BTS outside of the music itself that I find quite fascinating, which is why even after not enjoying the first few songs I kept going back. The culture, and how they fit into that, and them being disrupters of the whole kpop thing, I’m finding to be really bloody interesting. 🤷‍♂️

@@markabusireactions this is one of those topics on ethics that is quite muddled. On one hand, your time and entertainment provided absolutely has value, on the other, it still all rides on other people's work. In a way, you're putting other people's free content behind your own paywall and that is kind of weird? But that's just my own perspective, it's up to you to decided what you're comfortable with monetizing, everyone is gonna have a different opinion on this. As for reactions, definitely do more non-music BTS content! Maybe watch the first episode of Suchwita, it's a bit like a podcast. Or if you really want to get more familiar with the members then Taylor's guide to Bangtan 7 is genuinely a great place to start. One really good channel is boracity magazine. She has some good videos on BTS in relation to the music industry ('bts vs radio' and 'why the music industry is terrified of bts' are a couple I can recommend)

@@kaliska. it’s something I’ve wrestled with, but I kinda land on, I’m monetising MY part of the video I guess? I mean, as an example, I just did the Miss Americana documentary. The final video is 3 1/2 hours long, 2 hours of which is me talking about a range of topics. I dunno, it’s an interesting topic for discussion, absolutely. 🤷‍♂️

Ooh, dear, you just had to giggle about the crowtits just like people do about bluetits. Not cool, man. They are real birds just as bluetits are. It’s not a comment about BTS but about young people in Korea who just can’t get ahead. They have had to give up on having a job and a family because of the inequitable way jobs are given out. It’s a case of the rich get rich and the poor get poorer. I think you’ll have found the explanation video by now so I won’t say more about the song itself. Dance practises are always the best way to see them dance without the camera person getting ‘creative’ and missing all the best moves. However, there are some good live performances of this which have Hobi really going for it so you need to watch one of those. We say you need holy water to watch all those hip thrusts. On stage you’ll see either SUGA or RM pretending to be shocked by them. There are other songs like this such as Go Go. It looks a fun song but the underlying theme is a comment on the lack of opportunities for young Koreans. Dope is another one.
