Melbourne public transport is not trams only. You didn't say a word about the new Melbourne cross-city rail tunnel, which will significantly improve the quality of Melbourne urban rail service. Melbourne also has a metro line planned. The Suburban Rail Loop.

@fotoelba Yeah a great project in typical Victorian style executed poorly. It will not improve the quality of the Melbourne Rail Network significantly. It will simply remove the Sunbury Line from the Northern Loop. The Craigieburn will not be able to increase services, until they remove the V/Line services from that corridor. It will however allow for an extensive remodeling of the Tram Network. Demand will reduce for trams along the Swanson Street corridor allowing for trams to be rerouted along Elizabeth and William Streets. And the Suburban Rail Loop should not even be built.

I live in Melbourne and I have been to Sydney and their transport system positively craps over Melbourne's.

I don't understand why Melbourne is considered the cultural capital of Australia. Do they have Sculptures by the Sea, the Biennale, or Vivid? And I would say that Sydney has a ton of cultural stuff going on at the Opera House, the Wharf Theatres, Parramatta Riverside Theatre, the Lyric, State, and Capital Theatres, and the many suburban theatres such as the Darlinghurst Theatre. I would also say that the NSW Art Gallery and the Contemporary Art Gallery are particularly superior art galleries. There is also the Australian Museum, and the State Library. That is, there is a ton of cultural stuff going on in Sydney. And I would also say that Melbourne's tram network is not comprehensive, it is restricted to old Melbourne, ie, the extent of suburban Melbourne circa 1960. There are huge parts of new Melbourne where there are no trams at all. But the thing that I don't like is how most of the trams are old and cramped with lots of steps. Why can't Melbourne buy any new trams like Sydney has. Additionally, the heavy rail rolling stock in Melbourne is mostly old and dated where Sydney's trains are mostly pretty new. Melbourne heavy rail is also infrequent outside of peak hours, and what is it with the Loop, why it only runs in one direction, where Sydney's City Circle does not have that problem. It is like chalk and cheese. But the new Metro system in Sydney is amazing how good it is, fast and frequent, there is nothing like that in Melbourne!!!!!

I live in Melbourne, have done for the past 33 Years and I just do not get this hatred from some of my fellow Melburnians regarding Sydney. To the point of spouting untruths about our respective Public Transport. Like Melbourne's is better because we have trams. What utter rot. Sydney is building kms of automated Metro, whilst our Tram system is in danger of failing unless we start replacing those old high floor trams. That is not me saying that. This is from Keolis in 2017. Our Train Network is average and our Bus network is truly dog faeces.

I'd prefer a great train network over a great tram network. Melbourne trams are just as full as Sydney buses and trams are affected by traffic just the same.
