I'm back! Another service station story. Our book keeper was A Travelall fan and Mort would trade them in every 2 year's. He had 2 or 3 kids and both him and his wife were handicapped. His wife was in A wheelchair and he had polio when he was A kid so he needed crutches to walk. He liked the size of the Travelall so the gear they needed would fit but I always thought it was A bit of A climb for his wife to get in and out. The worst part for us was trying to adapt them to hand controls so Mort could drive it and back in those days there were no company's making handicap controls. Luckily the boss was A Wisconsin farm kid and A former Marine so he was A natural born engineer. We had 2 I. H. Products at the shop. The wrecker was A 1966 3/4 ton that had been resprung by Standard Spring And Alignment and the boss used his personal 1965 Scout as A service truck and plow truck. The back of the Scout had 6 Cat battery's in it that were used for jump starting and the extra weight helped out during plowing season. The wrecker could also be used as A plow but had no hydro-turn on it so it was A p.i.t.a. to plow with. The worst part was keeping the tin worm at bay. The boss resorted to spraying the undercarriage down twice A year with A 50/50 mixture of non-detergent oil and kerosene. He later changed to A L.P.S. product that had A waxy base and would stick to the metal better. The only real problem we had with the wrecker was the rear axle's were somewhat undersized and had A tendency to snap at the most inopportune times. The Axel was almost half the size of the axle on the bosses 65 Chevy 3/4 ton P.O. The Scout never missed A lick and the boss drove it well into the 1980's. Good luck on your Travelall project!

This brings back memories, I had a 1975 Travelall, white with blue interior, no 4-wheel drive but a beast on winter roads, nothing would stop it. Had spike tires and never a problem taking me home during snowstorms. One of the best cars for pulling trailers or heavy hauling with all that space inside.

Happy Fathers Day! I had a 73 binder pick up, same set up, the only problem i really had was the carb...I am not as fond of quad's as you..but you have more experience with em, but the ol dog ran and ran, when i got rid of it it had over 250k on it, but it was starting to weaken. Great video, always good to see you and lil man workin on stuff.

That chirping in the Left tailpipe,is what I refer to as "Poor Man's Turbo". If you take a pipe wrench and a bar,you could form the right tailpipe,to match the left,and you'll have guys looking for a turbo set-up! Put extensions on them,and nobody will see the cause of the whistle. I just bought a '71Travelall,and it needed a carb. rebuilt. Got it installed,started,heard a squeal,and smoke started rolling out of the oil pan. Spun a bearing. Got a 345 out of a '64 Loadstar Fire Truck,with a 5-speed Direct-5th Clark. 19,XXXX miles! Swapping motors this Spring.

+Bill Hickey that doesnt sound anything like a turbo
@justinstearns97234 жыл бұрын
Bill Hickey The chirp is due to using the wrong style plugs in the head when people take off the smog pump crap. The sound is caused by the exhaust blowing across them in the head. My 73 T-All 392 does it too, not as loudly as this one though.

Oh yeah that international just needs a little TLC. an exterminator to get the spiders out of the back a bit of sheet metal work so you aren't looking at the street from the inside. Actually surprised you got it to run after it was sitting for a year. but hey engines want to run just takes a bit of coaxing. You always have some interesting and entertaining projects, well you and 1963Impala have interesting videos. Glad to see your family always takes part in your projects one way or another that's always good to see. Keep up the good work

Binder ! :) IHC trucks have no in between. They are either strong runners or they are constant bad attitudes. They built the truck part first and then slammed the body down onto them as an after thought. The body parts were never very good. As I remember (it has been 35 or so years since I rebuilt the 345 in HS auto shop. I destroyed 2 of their wooden cross beam engine puller stands trying to lift that motor out with a chain hoist. Ended up taking the truck home and using the local bus barn with steel roofing beams to pull it. Left the truck home, took the motor back to class for the rebuild. they used a bunch of Ford Motor Parts as their consumables. With good tires it will handle any reasonable amount of snow and mud. It would be a perfect truck to take out into the timber pulling a trailer for firewood. Having a truck that you can use offroad and not care if the paint gets scratched or body parts dented or tore off is valuable.
