I as a German actually think that this (if taken somewhat serious to be a treaty for a better world) is just a complete outrage from the french side. Also the thing of Denmark retaking historical danish territory which now is german has no background. Do you seriously think that all turks in Anatolia should be part of Greece, seeing as its historical greek Territory? Shouldn’t Germany be able to regain Alsace and Lorraine, as it used to be German before France frenchified it. Do you want all European in America to leave so that all indigenous could regain historical territory? Where do you draw a line? I mean seeing as Germany was treated, there is no wonder it turned facist, as any country with national pride would under these circumstances. I want to clarify that I condemn all kinds of facism, but under the pretext of a better Europe, having kinds of cooperation as we have in the modern day just seems plain out wrong to me. All of you french nationalists playing like they are just and make their decisions based on European corporations and a better Europe I don‘t know what to tell you.
@Constantin-d6rАй бұрын
@@Daniel-jm7ts Then America should have said, that they are a multinational state and that while they’re at it, why lets not just give independence to your entire colonial empire? I suppose those africans would also prefer their own state.
@Daniel-jm7tsАй бұрын
@Constantin-d6r I think germany should have just accepted the proposed federalisation since it would be fair to the legitimate concerns of the catholic rhinish people. France and the rhine land where right in pointing out how germany in reality was just a greater prussia with heavy favoritism towards protestants. Let's not forget that the rhineland never volunteered to be a prussian province but instead they where given as a means to strength prussia after the Congress of Vienna. Federalism in Germany would have prevented those historic injustices (like Kulturkampf or the oppression of minorities like poles or Danes) and it would have ironically preserved post WW1 germanies territorial sovereignty since the great powers wouldn't have had the excuse to split of Germany lands in the pretext of protecting minorities (as was the case in the video)

Well, I as a real-life German believe, that a such solution wouldn‘t be a good decision. And that not just of sheer nationalism. Denmark integrating German territory up to the Kielkanal would just lead to the German public getting more radical, with perhaps earlier and stronger N*zi support and I would bet my money on the fact, that the newly gained territories of Denmark would be hard to govern without integration. Denmark (as the German player summed up pretty well) would only annex German territory, to have it, gain national prestige or something like that. There is indeed a reason, that the Danish King of our timeline didn‘t want to annex millions of Germans.

Yeah, but a such revengeful peacedeal would (atleast in this case) lead to ultranationalist sentiments to skyrocket all throughout Germany even quicker and more widely spread than in our timeline and would lead to maybe not millions more French, but Germans dying, which would in return just lead to more instability in not just Europe but atleast the USA to, with their big German minority areas and would pretty much in total just destabilize the entire world. A treaty, atleast as fair as in our timeline, if not even more lenient, with a little more oversight from the entente powers could have resulted (longterm) in a proto-European Union, keeping world war 2 as limited as possible, saving millions of lives.

Doing this will only reinforce rhine dependency on their trade with neighbours and bring them even closer to french sphere. Not to mention a complete slap in the face of the right to self-determination by the American delegation, that was complete and total hypocrisy for them to tout the German desires as acceptable yet completely side-lined the will of a region that saw themselves as different from Prussia. If the person representing Germany is referencing the International Court of Justice, he would be mistaken again as that wasn't established until 1945. If he is referencing Article 227 of the Treaty of Versailles, then perhaps he should bring up the point about putting the Kaiser on trail and not automatically assuming that the Netherlands in this simulation would not allow the extradition of the Kaiser to stand trial. Frankly, in my opinion this peace deal is even worse than the one in our timeline. This on the one hand goes even further in cementing hatred and revanchism in Germany for decades to come. I can't see how the Weimar Republic won't collapse in thr following years, as all the issues it faced OTL are made much worse here. Perhaps Hitler succeeds with the Beer Hall Putsch here or the communists attempt a successful revolution leading to a WW2 against both a Soviet Union and Soviet Germany. On the other you left Germany largely intact as a unitary nation state, which given the context of this deal is rather stupid. Yes it will be slightly more difficult but not overly so. On a sidenote the Rhenish Republic didn't even take the Ruhr Area meaning much of Germany's vital resources for armament production is still there. Maybe hindsight isn't that that important after all, because they did a better job in 1919 than whatever was accomplished here.
@JohnRandoSmithАй бұрын
@niklass.8699 Keep in mind that in this timeline, a Hitlerian Germany would be grealty diminished. This would drastically reduce the risk of Germany starting WW2. Germany would likely be unable to annex Austria, nor bend the international community in the Sudetes crisis (making western and central Europe much more stable). We don't know what the treaty will be in the east yet, but the western German setback will surely give time for the soviets to catch up, containing Germany even more. It also give an incentive for Germany to keep Poland on float, as a buffer. Finally, Itally will probably get its way in the Mediterranean and avoid turning fascist. This will in turn, snowball in favor of Spain not turning fascist. All in all, long-term peace seems more likely in this scenario.

@JohnRandoSmith I think it's far more likely for the Germans to straight up join the Soviets in this timeline, communist or no. They were already making diplomatic advances with the Treaty of Rapallo, even including a limited military co-operation for research purposes. What overcame ideological differences for this treaty to happen in our timeline was that Germany and the Soviets felt like they were martyrs to the international community that thusly had to stick together. This treaty would completely erase any trust Germans would have in the Western powers, namely France and possibly leading to them turning east instead. I don't think a Berlin-Moscow Axis is much more of a guarantor for peace than Berlin-Rome.
@JohnRandoSmithАй бұрын
@niklass.8699 A communist Germany is possible, but it is likely that Germany would lose even more territory in the process of turning red (ex: Bavaria backed by the west). Germany would be weakened by the revolution in the short term, and in the long term, news of Soviet-German collusion would be a secret to none. Countrary to our timeline, the west would be prepared to face the threat. Europe as a whole would stand more united : non-communist German states, eastern European countries, and Scandinavian countries would face an existancial threat, while the rest of Europe would have its red scare. This little red Germany scenario doesn't seem that bad in contrast to our timeline weakened West facing rising fascism and a mega-Germany (who surprised everybody by temporarily siding with the Soviets).

The Rhine and the French negotiator got completely shafted for no real reason, the British completely betraying their word and going unpunished for it, whilst the US keeps screaming about self-determination whilst entirely ignoring self-determination because of "balance of power" (Germany still has more people then France, the Rhine and Belgium combined) is a little ridiculous. it feels like the US and UK are appeasement-maxxing in a peace conference for a war they just won. Justice for my man France.

@@erangon66bakirleo60 Yeah but France helping a separatist group which wants to cut of one of Germany’s most important industrial hubs leads to even if the USA helps Germany with even more war reparations weaker economy. A from the beginning weakened German government, which collapses even more than in our timeline from the 1929 stock market crash would just collapse even quicker with many more Germans dying of starvation then in our timeline and a even more prominent and probably even more radical N*zi regime, which would also probably seep over into the Rhineland, leading to eather France because of international pressure being forced to leave the Rhineland, or France fighting a war with Germany over the Rhineland, with Germany having again support from the international community, leading France to be forced with sanctions to leave the Rhineland anyway. Both of which just leads to a even worse World War 2. I don‘t want to hate on you, and I as a catholic German myself enjoy the effort, but I strongly believe, that this would not be a better world.
@erangon66bakirleo60Ай бұрын
@@Constantin-d6r I have the international support, Italy Belgium, the UK said he didn't care, the USA would go isolationist and didn't care about Europe. In the end of the treaty Germany would lose all of his industrial and raw resources land, so they cannot supply a decent army
