Күн бұрын

Welcome to my KZbin channel. This channel is the home for all your vintage Mid-Year Corvette content.
I just finished restoring a 1963 Corvette Split Window and I am starting another split window build but this time its a race car build. I will be making videos every Friday. I will be making videos on my 1963 Corvette Split Window, my dad's 1965 Corvette, my race car split window build, my friends 1960 Corvette, and other projects that I find along the way. Let me know what you think about the video. Enjoy!!
If you are interested in an official MYM hat or if you have any questions please send me an email to midyearmitch@gmail.com.
Check out my Instagram for some behind the scenes pics of my builds.

Hey there Mitch, Excellent Clamp-o'rama there. You can never ever have too many clamps. Nice work by your expert technician! Take care, Dan

That’s right! I love my clamps. I need to get a couple more deep jaw clamps. Those are handy. She’s good reliable help haha. Thanks you two Dan!

It is looking pretty good M&M. I also would choose clamps over self tapping screws, much quicker and cleaner. But but but, no 6 tail lights? Perhaps another day. Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms. Great video I truly enjoy every second of these videos you produce. Thanks for taking the time to share. Stay safe.

Haha thanks! M&M fiberglass incorporated is moving along. The clamps worked well for this job. There’s a story behind the 4 tail lights. But he was back and forth on it so he decided to run the stock panel. We will save the 6 panel for another build. Thanks for tuning in Jim!

If you read the book "Corvette" by Lawrence Galloway, who was in charge of inspections for the Mid-years; you will learn why there were problems with the coupes. The mold was wrong for the roof panels and as such the roofs were undersized. When Chevy finally realized the problem, it was near the end of the run and they decided to let it go.

When you test fit the body are you also shimming the mounts like on a stock frame?
@MidYearMitch
@MidYearMitch 3 ай бұрын
I built the birdcage on a stock frame with it shimmed and level. I built the floor and glued the top on the car while it’s on a roadster shop chassis. Since I’m building the car from the ground up on the chassis that it will live on I didn’t use any shims. I used the body mounts and washers. When the car is painted and ready to be mounted on for the final time. Then he can put a shim here or there to make minor adjustments. But I designed the body to not use any shims to start off.

I don't know how you sand fiberglass with short sleeves? At least you wear a respirator.
@MidYearMitch
@MidYearMitch 3 ай бұрын
I find that it’s better to stay cool and comfortable. As soon as you get hot your pores open up and let the fiberglass in. That’s much worse. I just use compressed air to blow the dust off occasionally and I take a shower when I am done. I find that duct tape can help remove the itchy fiberglass particles. But it really doesn’t bother me.

@@MidYearMitch my biggest recent accomplishment wasn't even on the Corvette. I finally got rid of the TH400 I pulled out of a '73 Riviera...back in the 90s!
