I play off 5 and have hopelessly super strong grip that I just can’t lose. This is the best video I have ever watched to try and make sense of a super erratic driver path (usually low and left). It is honestly doing my head in. Thanks for such a thorough explanation of a possible fix. Much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for commenting, really pleased to read this video has given you some moves you can implement into your swing that are going to help you play more consistent golf with your strong grip. Have you managed to give these a go yet at the driving range? Either way, it would be great to arrange a call to find out what you’re specifically struggling with in your swing to make the strong grip work, you can use the zoom call link in my bio!

Thanks, Harry. I finally found a video that reflects exactly the way I grip and swing my driver. I'm 67 years old and have always played this way, since age 11. Have tried to take a lesson a few times over the years and the pros always try to change my grip, never feels good. Now I know I can do this, as long as I maintain flexibility and core strength. Thanks!

Hi Steve, thanks for commenting, it's great to read that you've been able to pick up some great tips from this video to suit your grip. Absolutely, as long as you maintain a good amount of flexibility and strength you'll be able to play golf using a strong grip. Also i believe a Zoom call would be great for you to see how we can make these changes happen sooner than later for the season ahead. You can use the booking link in my bio!

Excellent video Harry on "body separation!" in the golf swing! As an experienced golfer, in watching this video, I think your strong grip and body separation is geared more to a younger golfer. I don't believe at my age with my neutral grip and lack of flexibility that I once had when I was younger that this move would work for me. I'll have to go back to your library and find your videos which are more apropos to senior golfers. Well Done Though Harry!

I agree with John Schwartz this is aimed at the younger golfer - do t believe this e the only way to play with a strong grip - Harry needs to think outside the box
@harryshawgolf10 ай бұрын
Hi John, thanks again for commenting, yes this is certainly geared for golfers who can get this separation between their lower and upper body and have good dissociation in their golf games. How's your golf going?

Thanks for your comment, what other ways would you suggest you can swing with a very strong grip like Dustin Johnson? I'm open to new suggestions and KZbin ideas!

I’ve lost a fair bit of separation mobility over the last few years. The drill at 18.00 minutes is an absolute game changer.. Thanks Harry, it has helped massively

I agree John - there are plenty of ways to play with a very strong grip and not just this young players way Rotation is the key and am surprised this wasn’t the theme of the video Players like Azinger and Duval managed it without any of this type of mumbo jumbo More thought Harry needed to help us

i’m gonna try this (i’m a lefty) but my right hand is dominant , i’ve only ever been able to strike my irons good with a strong grip , over time i’ve neutralized the grip just the slightest bit, but with my driver i only feel comfortable with a strong grip, i try to start with an exaggerated open face at setup but that doesn’t always work and when i hit one bad one it’s downhill from there, i think speeding up the swing might actually help along with the tilt, swinging slower to hit it square is probably hurting me i’ll get back to ya next week thanks for the video
@harryshawgolf5 ай бұрын
Hi Anthony, thanks for commenting with your current situation with the driver. Interesting to read the irons work and the driver not so much, this will certainly help you in the downswing, but this concept is only going to also help with the irons too. Let me know how it goes!
@jonathanwalujo5733 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for the video. I also use a very strong grip. When you say the path goes in on the downswing. Does it mean we need to cut the ball with strong grip to get the launch height?
@harryshawgolf3 ай бұрын
Technically yes, you want to be careful of coming from the inside too much as it's easier to gt the wrist involved and release the club too much.
@bennyags5089 ай бұрын
With that swing path to the left-are you still trying to hit that “4 o’clock” position on the ball? I was told to swing at that inside quadrant, out to right field in order to reduce my slice. I also play strong but can still Manage a good slice 😅
@harryshawgolf9 ай бұрын
Hi Ben, for the swing path is to the left we want to be holding the face-off as we mentioned in the video, so an out-to-in swing path is preferred because if we swing on the inside to start the downswing we'll end up either holding the face-off and blocking it to the right or releasing the club too early and causing the shots to go too far left. So out to in is key with this.

That was 313 and the ball looked liked it went hip high the entire way. That’s a great ball to have on a windy day

Hi Aris, Yes that’s certainly a good ball flight, I’d only they were all like that low one, haha! How’s your golf going?
@vintageswiss90964 ай бұрын
I play my irons with a grip stronger than I've ever seen anyone else use. My front hand is basically turned backwards... My driver grip is super neutral... 😅 My ball position with my irons is off my back foot; with my driver is off my front foot. Took me two years to work out what you went over in 20 minutes. I used to think the golf swing was trying to hit and push the ball down the course... Now i realize with my setup, I'm really trying to pull the irons through the ball, not pushing through it. With the driver, I'm trying to push it, not pull it. Golf is hard... 😂
@harryshawgolf4 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting, this is very interesting thats for sure, i can understand why you've placed the ball position in the back of your stance with the irons, as it does delay the club face closure (as highlighted in the video). Pleased this was very helpful for you, golf is hard, but keep going, keep persevering, and if there's anything else you'd like me to cover on the channel let me know!

Here's my (probably psychological) problem with the spine axis tilt to help hitting up on the ball: When my spine is tilted forward, no problem of course. The arc of the club head will intersect the ball, but not the ground. But if I also tilt the axis to the right (I'm right-handed) how do I clear the ground to my right in the initial takeaway? Obviously, people do this, and successfully. But the image in my head is that if I tilt right, a clubhead path perfectly perpendicular to that right-tilt in the spine axis is actually going to make the takeaway (or impact) problematic, because the clubhead arc is now (slightly) "below ground level" in the takeaway at at the return to impact. Of course, as one begins to lift the club from rotation and raising the hands, this is not a problem. But it would seem to be a problem both in the initial movement, and at impact. Because we have tilted the spine axis to the side, part of the swing arc (a small part, but still part of it) now seems below ground, right? As I say, obviously this is accomplished, probably via some movement or manipulation I'm not aware of. So I'm "psyched out" when I tilt my spine to the right.
@harryshawgolf8 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for commenting with your thoughts on this, it’s interesting to read you’ve found tilting to the right a struggle, you do mean during the takeaway I’m presuming? Because during the downswing as a right handed player we want to be tilting more to the left (I.E. lead shoulder lifting upwards). Also the aim of this move in this video is to help you prevent having to manipulate anything in your swing (with a strong grip taking place) if you’re still struggle to get your head round all this I would be happy to jump on a zoom call to discuss exactly what it is you’re struggling with and if you’re happy to… check your swing on Skillest to identify this problem. If so, click the ‘book call’ link in the description.
