Alright then, picture this if you will: 10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51. Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thing with just a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this. Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping... Holy fucking shit! Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa, Did a slow-mo Matrix descent out of the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw, and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was: "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my fuckin' pants." So light in his way, Like an apparition, He had me crying out, "Fuck me, It's gotta be, Deadhead Chemistry, The blotter got right on top of me, Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!" And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose. He said, "You are the Chosen One, the One who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not." Me. The Chosen One? They chose me!!! And I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school. You better. You better. You better. You better listen. Then he looked right through me With somniferous almond eyes. Don't even know what that means Must remember to write it down. This is so real. Like the time Dave floated away. See my heart is pounding, 'Cause this shit never happens to me. Can't breathe, right now! It was so real. Like I woke up in Wonderland. All sort of terrifying. And I don't wanna be all alone when I tell this story. And can anyone tell me why You all sound like Peanut's parents Will I ever be coming down? This is so real. Finally it's my lucky day. See my heart is racing, 'Cause this shit never happens to me. Can't breathe, right now! You believe me, don't you? And this wasn't all in my head. See they took me by the hand and invited me right in, Then they showed me something. I don't even know where to begin. Strapped down my bed. Feet cold and eyes red. Can't remember what they said. God damn. Shit the bed! Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position. Such a heavy burden now to be the one. Born to bear and read to all The details of our ending. To write it down for all the world to see. But I forgot my pen, Shit the bed again, Typical. Strapped down my bed. Feet cold and eyes red. Sunkist and sudafed, gyroscopes and infrared. Can't remember what they said. God damn. Shit the bed! I can't remember what they said to me. Can't remember what they said to make me out to be a hero! Can't remember what they said. Bob help me. Great as always, had to catch up and watch the last couple before this, been sick as F***, more than usual. I love how this band uses a vast majority of their “musicians bag of Trix”, in literally every piece. While a lot of modern musicians use only a few and wind up using the cookie cutter for maybe one or two good songs and the rest is just filler, with TOOL it seems (nearly) every piece is artisan crafted to perfection (and the ones that are not are meant not to be) not only from a aural aspect but the way each song is constructed pertaining to music theory. Like I’ve said before, there are no accidents with TOOL. Really enjoyed watching the last few you’ve posted back-to-back, and I am so glad their Fear Inoculum album has been such a catalyst to introduce people to their music. Your appreciation of their music is amazing to see, and it is not very often I see someone react as you have, like their music has brought some color, sound or something new that is rare, and good. @tidewell5 жыл бұрын
The song was based on a "story" from Bill Manspeaker (from Green Jello). Bill has known Maynard and Danny since before Tool existed, as they were all playing in Green Jello at the time. They have been friends for decades, but one day Bill crashed into Tool's rehearsal space telling this wild story about going out in the desert and being abducted by aliens. The band wasn't sure what to make of the story, but based on the sincere fear in his voice telling the story - it was something they had trouble just writing off as a joke. Maynard was inspired by the story and composed lyrics to the song... Backing up a bit, some also consider "Lipman Conjuring" part of the tale. 1. Lipman Conjuring: Our subject is perhaps out in the desert on a native American reservation. Participating in a shaman experience while consuming DMT or Peyote... 2. Lost Keys: The subject awakes groggy in a hospital room. Getting his bearings, he overhears the medical staff discussing the patient.... confused, they approach and ask what happened. 3. Rosetta Stoned: The subject immediately bursts into a frantic nightmare of a story. Tracking his disoriented and jarring story, the soundtrack matches his experience of the tale. Did it really happen? "Don't know. Won't know"... thats up to the listener to decide. Here is a brief interview with Danny describing more behind the track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp2tfYGumph6l5o

I enjoy taking the lyrics at face value - granted, it's certainly about what the song meanings said and you elaborated upon, but it's also a story mirrored in so many accounts we see from people who claim to have been abducted by aliens. They were chosen by the beings, despite humble status. They were told the revelatory information to either save or damn us, but they can't remember what it was. I can even feel the anguish of the protagonist who can't remember what it was they said because he forgot his pen. Watching your face throughout the songs has been a joy - so much fun to relive these songs with someone freshly acquainted with them. :)

Sure, you can separate the tracks, but the truest experience is in listening to the album as intended. It's only 3 more tracks and they're worth listening to. It will give you a fuller understanding of the album and Tool in general and I think that's something everyone would want to see and experience with you. Finish the album and come full circle with it. You got this.

Tool is forever one of the greatest bands to ever grace this beautiful planet. On a side note: That Groundstate band you shared at the beginning sounds dope as hell!

Loving your channel mate and your reactions to Tool. I bought the Opiate EP in 1992 and my life was never the same. Even to this day I find myself marveling at the nuances of sound that constantly reveal themselves. Everytime I listen it's like listening for the first time. I know what's coming, but it still excites me, thrills me, envelopes me. A timeless band indeed and my favourite band of all time. Welcome aboard!

There was always one line in this song that made me think.. it Wasn't Just a trip. " See the Dead ain't touring. And This wasn't all in my head" I always took this... The dead ( The Grateful Dead) ain't touring... the were not around.. so he hadn't been on LSD lately... idk.. but still one of my favorite Tool Trax. Good Job Dude.

If I could only listen to three Tool songs, they would undoubtedly be Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus and Invincible. I think they signify quite well why they are such a trascendental act in music overall regardless of taste. They took the basis for rock and metal and turned it into some kind of aesthetic completely of their own. Keep it up mate, I would love it if you kept on doing one band at a time journeys as you have so far... My immediate suggestion is Porcupine Tree, specially albums like In Absentia, Fear Of a Blank Planet and Deadwing. They are quite beloved amongst fans of this kind of music and are honestly as deep, intricate, emotional and maybe even more musically varied than Tool IMO. Quite more nostalgic but still amazing riffs, interesting progressions and a very deep respect for the school of art-rock that has been portrayed over the years by acts like King Crimson, Tool, Pink Floyd, Rush, etc. Listen to the song Arriving Somewhere but not Here... and see what you think!

Followed by Karnivools sound awake and asymmetry album's. I prefer sound awake as a whole, but some of asymmetry sounds really tool-y. I'll be honest I'm waiting for him to get to A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Maynards 3 bands are so distinct, but familiar because of his vocals...

@@Andy-nl8uq I agree, Sound Awake definitely is more of a cohesive listening experience, but I do prefer asymmetry as indeed it sounds quite Tooly but in a good non-ripoff kind of way. If you do like Karnivool and have never heard of Rishloo, then you should be looking up Living As Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth. You will absolutely fucking love it. Cheers.

mine would be Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus and 7empest. There's just something about 7empest that I love, maybe how it's so much more heavier than most other Tool songs

Bill Manspeaker came to Danny and Maynard telling them he had just been abducted. Bill is the creator of the band Green Jello and a good friend from the early days of Tool. Maynard and Danny both appear on Green Jello track "Three little pigs".

This song can be described as a Modern Tragedy, describing a pretty common case of the dude who took too much and saw god (quite literally). In the story portrayed by the song, this person took LSD, and at some point of the trip, he also took DMT as vaguely mentioned in the beginning. At this point he meet the entities, and interpret them as aliens giving him a really important message (in a DMT breakthrough is common to meet entities with knowledge that goes way beyond the understanding of a human language, at least that's a common definition), after this part of the trip fades away he realizes that he is no longer able to recall that important message given to him, and freaks out, giving into a bad trip. I love the "Overwhelmed as one would be placed in my position, such a heavy burden to be the one" part because it perfectly describes, even to a person that has never tripped before, the emotion of your neurons just making a lot of synapses creating the idea of having been exposed to an universal truth or something to that effect (like realizing we are all one or something similar) and then being unable to explain it to anyone, even if you just want them to experience that same bliss.
