In engineering terms, cast iron is very useful material for high temperature applications. The key factor being its uniform crystal structure, making it very stable in variable temperature conditions. There are more stable high temperature materials out there, but cast iron provides the best cost-to-performance ratio. Downside of cast iron is... it rusts too easy. And its not a plastic material. Meaning if uneven heat is applied (lets say hot break pads are kept in contact with the disc after an emergency situation), the disc will warp. But low cost means its easier to replace the whole rotor assembly than to repair it. How ever, if there is enough material on the disc, it can be machined true on a lathe, depending availability of replacement parts.

後半のディスクローターは重要保安部品としてダクタイル鋳鉄(DFC)を使用。加工中などで落下したら不良品として扱われます。私も或る大手企業の自動車工場🏭でディスクブレーキの加工を実習生として作業に携わった経験があるので、懐かしいですね。

@@productionmedia1400 Yea like 1/4-1/2 ton small trucks, definitely not full size, and if the hub shown in the beginning are for trucks, it would have to be specifically for 4 wheel drive units. The only way the splined drive hubs could be for the rear would be on independent rear suspension vehicles. I am a retired veteran mechanic with 70% of the work preformed on braking systems. I have worked on virtually every vehicle out there form dozens to hundreds and even thousands of times. At least vehicles driven in the USA. Those rotors look so small, they look like they belong on a small to mid-sized passenger car like a Camery or Altima. The hubs would be pressed into a sealed bearing assembly which would bolt into a spindle that the strut and lower control arm connect to. I've seen just about everything including the insane stuff when people run their crap into the ground.

Exactly, last week it cost me to do the rotors and pads of my small suv $750 canadian. And I was lucky as I got it $250 lower than usual. Going for brand names would have cost me roughly $1400 cad!
