This documentary inspired me to do my graduation project about our fashion industry. It makes me sick and sad, seeing al those people suffer while producing our clothes. When I'm graduated I would love to start an initiative for fair fashion.

And if you guys want to hear something even more ironic - you know how H&M and Gap and Forever 21 are super cheap in the USA? Well they're ridiculously expensive here in places like India (shares a border with Bangladesh, and there are plenty of factories that export cloth from here). So H&M is marketed and sold as an upper-middle class luxury, with the same jacket costing $ 30-40, instead of maybe $15-25 as in the US stores. It's quite absurd

I can recommend this movie to everyone. Watch it. Listen. Change your lifestyle. Preach. After this watching this movie, with tears rolling over my cheeks at times, I wanted to meet the garment workers and apologize for my selfish behavior. Because I never took their situation serious. My life has changed and I hope this movie will change your life too. Because I believe that together we can make this world a better place. And say goodbye to poverty forever. An we have to start somewhere and for me this is a good place to start.

Hemp could help too. The garment workers need to be paid more, too. Also, if you're a sewer and want some of those trends, you could recreate them with your scraps, old clothes, etc.

Another reasons why you should buy your clothes second hand . If you wear something that another person has worn before, you prolong the life of this garment. If a lot of people do that, less new clothes are produced and stop this madness(as well as less waste).

And less of those poor ppl would have a job, that is paying them a $ a day, that they need to survive... don't you get it that is a never ending circle?!..... lots of other things need to change first for that to happen... unfortunately, it's almost impossible in these days society...

You know that the economy is based on demand. If WE demand that these workers get treated better, you can actually change the system because these companies want YOUR MONEY. Consumer activism WORKS. Why is there a lot of meat replacement today? Because there' s a market for it and there' s a DEMAND. I suggest that you check consumer activism out! :)

Wow. Very moving trailer (moved me to tears). I'm not a big consumer....however, even I was ashamed of my shallow pursuits for material things, as I watched families being exploited for what will cost us only $9.99, and will eventually end up, of very little consequence, on the floor in a corner of the room.

The bad part about this is that it is so hard for the majority of people (even in "wealthier" countries) to afford ethically produced clothing. I can't afford ethical clothing, and I know a lot of people who can't either. I can hardly afford the clothing I do buy. So really, people can sit around and tell people that they are awful and should be ashamed for buying cheap clothing, but the reality is is that I can't afford ethical clothing. It isn't that I'm cheap or am hoarding my money. It's that I honest to god don't make enough. So I'm forced to buy my clothes cheap. If anyone knows of ethical, but truly inexpensive clothing brands, I would love to know about them. The fashion industry is such a vicious cycle.

alliembooks it's also about consumerism. Do you NEED it ? Or is it the advertising/instagram that makes you feel that way ? 40-50 years ago people didn't used to buy that much clothes. Now everyone purchase at least 200$ worth of clothing every month. What you can do to change things is buy less, in a more conscious way. Think about what really matters in your life. But I agree that thrift store don't have a lot of options for plus size girls and that ethical brands are super expensive

I look at something like this and see the injustice and oppression and wonder what can a person like me do about this? Boycott? Then these people will be even worse off with no jobs. Do we never buy another item of clothing pr shoes ever again? Certainly we will have to at some point. All I can say to people experiencing such wrongs is this." Wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He shall strengthen your hearts. wait I say on the Lord." Psalm 1:27. I know God sees it all and He will punish those who take advantage of their labourers by injustice and oppression. "Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment. For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed innocent people, who do not resist you." James 5:1-6

I had heard of cheap fast fashion coming from "WalMart" the cheap prices they offer come at a heft price for someone else in another part of the globe. That's why I don't shop there, no matter what. Low Morals, Low Ethics always. I have stopped buying new clothes and instead upcycle from friends, family, and thrift stores, garage sales. But with the help of this film I now know of the many other companies that are contributing to the poor deplorable extremely dangerous labor conditions being forced on people who are trying to put food on their families table, and allowing me to share this information with others. Exposing these companies. It's a travesty..alot of people don't know what is going on.

My country has been going on with this clothing industries .Young poor people would left school and work at the factory just to get a very small salary not even enough to fit one person .Their health , beauty and lifestyle has been destroyed .so there were many protest between government and those workers about their monthly salaries .

I got this movie a long time ago and only now just watched it. What a shame on the fashion industry which has more than enough to fairly pay these workers in third-world countries without making a dent in their yearly capital.

Fast Fashion, another reason why the earth is dying. Stop irresponsible consumption!n This is a wonderful film to encourage people to think first before buying.

That is the world we live in. It's not he materialism but monetary system and values built in to society that make these things happen. The more other suffer the more you succeed.

Instead of blaming the fashion industry why don't you start blaming the governments of these places.

The governments don't create the demand, consumers create the demand. if you want to blame anyone, look in the mirror, it's the consumer. No demand, no supply. Simple economics.

The blame is shared. The governments are to blame, the industries that threaten to take their work elsewhere if production prices aren't kept painfully low are to blame, and we as consumers who support these corrupt practices through our purchases are to blame.

Breanna Sacchetti maybe I blame both? Don’t forget the consumer! The consumer is to blame more than anything IMO

This isn't a problem of some countries. With the globalization the big companies (that are from rich countries), take advantage of people in the poor countries, put them to work while paying them a pittance and without giving them adequate conditions. Then they only sell it in places where people have good conditions and can buy it (developed countries). It is a problem where ALL the world is involved.
