The ancient mystical teachings of Kabbalah -- once obscure and unknown -- has recently become popular and even fashionable. Or has it? Do we really know what Kabbalah is? What does the word even mean? What do these teachings offer us?
Tonight is Lag B'Omer, the anniversary of Rabbi Shimeon Bar Yochai's passing. Rabbi Shimeon, or Rashbi, is the "father" of Kabbalah. He authored the Zohar -- the classical esoteric work, which is the foundation of mysticism, laying out a blueprint of the divine and the spiritual framework of the universe and beyond.
Please join Rabbi Simon Jacobson in this special Lag B'Omer presentation, as he explains the surprising meaning of the word Kabbalah. Once we know its true definition, we can then take a journey into the mystical and mysterious chambers of our psyches and of the cosmos -- and come away with a new way of looking at life and new methods to achieve transcendence and live the most fulfilling life possible. The inner workings of Kabbalah -- as first taught by Rashbi, and further developed in subsequent generations -- opens for us up enthralling vistas and unparalleled opportunities to build glorious lives and relationships, always brimming with unexpected possibilities.

I am a 53 years old Fijian, born and grew up as a christian until I was 47 years old when I learned the truth about the way the new testament was put together...with great disappointment I left Christianity and started learning the Fijian ancient way of worshiping God because they believe that their God is the creator. At the same time I started learning the Jews interpretation of the old testament by listening to a few Rabbis including you on KZbin. With amazement and excitement I have been learning new things about God the creator for the last 7 years of listening and learning from the teachings of these Rabbis. Every time I hear the word Kabbalah I don't understand but I continued to learn for these 7 years until Monday this week I could not help it anymore as something inside me just overcame my interest in learning the so many things I still want to learn and told me its time now for you to know Kabbalah. And so since Monday this week I have been listening to different presentations from different Rabbis about Kabbalah..and today is time to listen to Rabbi Simon's presentation. Its the most amazing sermon I have come across in my life. At some point I felt emotional with some of the things you said and certainly you have opened a door to the most exciting part of my journey searching for God. Every night before I sleep I will ask these questions..God where a you and who really you are and please show yourself to me and please talk to me. Teach me who really I am and what am I suppose to do. I know and believe that you are there. I just felt God talking to me through you Rabbi Simon..I feel happy and peaceful realizing that Kabbalah has come to me without me realizing it. Thank you dear God. Thank you Rabbi Simon. God bless you always. I will let this peace move me forward in my journey knowing God as he has brought me this far to your sermon today. I look forward to listen and learn more with excitement.

@Ernest Medina There's a reason why it was kept secret, because people like you have no idea about the complexities and holiness of the Kabbalah. Jewish "witchcraft" has no correlation nor does it even subscribe to the general OUTLINE of what Kabbalah is. People like you, who have no idea how it works, and are so quick to oscillate their mouth to tarnish it's reputation. Either out of fear, ignorance, malice or just blatant stupidity. Imagine if this was the Middle Ages, and someone like you just went "ITS WITCHCRAFT" and all of your likewise friends, being just as moronic, would join the bandwagon and start calling it witchcraft, and just like that BAM you're responsible for encouraging riot and inducing fear into the public, all because you're selfishly ignorant. Kabbalah is the same practice that Jesus would've practiced, or King Solomon or Moses, or Elijah or Enoch. Are all these prophets "witches" who practice "witchcraft"? Obviously not, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt - what do you THINK Kabbalah is? Give me reputable sources, give me certifiable information and a decent or concise rundown on WHY you think it's witchcraft. Then we can move onto why you're wrong. At the end of the day, I have respect for my Christian, Catholic & Muslim friends - in fact I've learned a lot about life by studying Catholicism and all it's rituals plus some works of Islam - BUT, the fact stands that the Old Testament is the root and cause of causes regarding all these beliefs that came after Judaism. The Torah, is the most infinite wisdom text that has ever come across the faculties of man. However, the reason why Judaism has such a strong and rich foundation regarding what's wrong, right, true or false - is because of our tight-knit and strict regulation on Torah study. Our Torah is almost 100% accurate to what it described in the Dead Sea Scrolls. The reason for saying all this, is that I can honestly say that modern Christians and Catholics are unable to interpret their holy texts without the same hermeneutic skill that Torah scholars and Kabbalists do. Some of our Christian/Catholic brothers are able to correctly discern between the allegorical depth of the New Testament, however the majority falls on short ears. A Kabbalist is able to pull out information from the Old Testament as part of our exegesis method, and it can be applied to the New Testament as well. Jesus would be absolutely DISSAPOINTED with comments like these, as he was also a great Kabbalist, regardless of his stature in Judaism. Next time, watch your mouth when you speak because it is the mark of a miserable fool to act irrationality and to speak without thinking!

You are a very good instructor. You describe kabbalah as I hoped it would be. I am almost sorry I found this late in life, but the timing is quite perfect. As a younger person I came across some stuff claiming to be kabbalah, and I felt it " forbidden" to me. I studied things similar. As if I knew that stuff was not the real deal, but a perversion of sorts; and I have only recently come back to listen to such as your teachings. And I am amazed. I have always loved Jewish thought, and now I have an even deeper love for it. I wish people cared so much about the inner things, of the noble things, of the lessons of life and wisdom. To make life what it IS.....but I haven't found that group of friends yet. ( it is interesting how many world religions of ancient origin have recently opened up the true stuff for any such stray birds as I) So i will just study a while and be a smile for others.

It’s called the Deep things of Satan and knowledge from BAbylon who worship Pagan Gods. Read Jeremiah and Isaiah what the Lord our God says about BAbylon. They didn’t keep covenant and played the Harlot. If Kabbalah doesn’t align with The Law and the Prophets then it’s the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life is being guarded by the Sword of the Spirit. The Word of God. I pray the Lord will open your eyes

I have been past the valve. Ego almost closed me out, but then I consciously devalued it, the valve opened right up and much was learned. Questions answered through visions, absolutely amazing. I want my ego to be taken over by Spirit. It is a difficult process, as the ego feeds off what you realize that is beyond bigger than our worldly self, and that arrogance does seem to feed fast. I appreciate this video for giving more definitions like subtlety, so that we can slip by the ego what is needed. Thank you

I wrote a previous post directed to Rabbi Jacobson where I mentioned the ancient Hindu and Buddhist teaching that our minds and heart must be empty of prejudices, duality and the belief of absolute notions in order to be well adjusted to value and understand precious spiritual teachings. I just wanted to express that Buddhism have depictions or figures of different Buddhas where each Buddha represents an awakened illuminated mind and foremost, each Buddha represents an ethical value. Since most of the people in ancient times where uneducated, they used figures of Buddha's which behavior emulated an ethical value. Not all figures are idols. In Buddhism the figures of Buddha's each represent a teaching, a. ethical value the person must aspire to attain. I consider myself a metaphysic, a person who understands the value of the teachings of the Awakened Beings or Illuminated Minds who came to this Earth to teach us good values as in the ten commandments. I read once In a multi-cultural philosophical magazine that The Ten Commandments were the brief Hammurabi code and that Moses somehow used this knowledge too. So as a metaphysical student one studies all the teachings of the major spiritual leaders who had come to these Earth, also called Avatars ( as in Hinduism Avatars are reincarnations of Khrisna, an ancient and righteous good leader in Ancient India, much older than the Jewish culture and history). So I wish to be able to understand the teachings of the most influential spiritual thought provoking personalities of all the centuries.

@@zeenathbeevi7961 There are several books on the Kabalah. With most KZbin videos you can either turn on closed captions and there is a way of seeing a transcript. For CC go into settings and it should be right there for you. For transcript look for 'Save', right beside that there is a row of three little dots. Click on the dots and it has show transcript and you'll be able to read what is said. Also, the Rabbi has a series of books - A meaningful Life, The Omer, and a book on The High Holidays. I would always have the deepest respect and can understand being a very practical person that some people are drawn to the exotic. As a Muslim my spiritual master told me as Sufism in other religions their is also spirituality in other religions. Kabbalah in Judaism. The religion has 2 parts rituals and festivals for the body and mind to focus the body and mind to God. And Kabbalah is spirituality, the way to connect the soul to God. For this the Ego needs to be killed and God needs to be only in the heart. To learn spirituality you need to have a teacher for many years. Without spirituality religion is just a bundle of rituals for the body without connecting to God. Kabbalah should teach how to become more like God. Much love. Xx

It’s okay to stop fighting some times to remain safe but the truth is no matter what one cannot sin and don’t believe quitting is a sin then because the science will be and can materialize the science will be but it can also materialize, listening to the subtle intelligence will satisfy you and it will be aligned and for timing as dreamers speak of.

Tree of Knowledge = differentiation, analysis. Tree of Life = integration, combination, synthesis. Two ways of knowing that meet in the middle of the garden of the Psyche. The outer is a mirror reflection of our inner thoughts, feelings and beliefs. God's will = letting it emerge. Man's will = making it happen. Soul = interface, common ground unity of inner and outer - of Spirit and body/world

I heard that Rabbi Shimon was part of a group of Ten that hid out in the cave and together they experienced and wrote down the revelation of the the Zohar. Rabbi Shimon spoke and his son Elezar wrote but together in the ten the revelation was completed in the connection between them.
