As someone who has never seen the musical or read the novel, this video was full of shocking revelations. I didn't expect any of it, especially after watching the movie.
@giggles71799 күн бұрын
The book can definitely be a surprise for anyone unfamiliar with how loosely _Wicked_ is based on it and it is certainly not for children. I'm a massive Oz devotee and I hated it when I read it years ago. I thought it sucked all color and whimsy from Oz and it honestly kept me from becoming interested in the Broadway show until recently. I'm happy to say the musical adaptation meets it halfway between the _Wicked_ book and the 1939 film.
@andrewjames9543 күн бұрын
Added to the last comment. The 1939 movie is also not a faithful adaptation. They took a lot of liberties and made the story much more “children appropriate.”
@Lovley116493 күн бұрын
Just like Disney adaptations were all from horror stories…interesting
@ApexPreadator898 күн бұрын
So technically this was a horror novel turned into a family novel

More a political thriller.

The Oz books are pretty wild and dark. The movie Return to Oz is about as close to the source books as we get
@giggles71799 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right. I never cease to enjoy countering any complaints or arguments with that fact.
@avieyreilly57888 күн бұрын
One of the best movies I have seen. It’s a must see and that I wish the movies would be a bit more darker and not so glitter and whatnot
@sonofhibbs4425Күн бұрын
The Return to Oz is not close to the books. No. I hated Return to Iz because it was so dark. I read the books as a child. If you take it in a dark light, yeah I could see where you’re coming from, but Baum wrote the series as a political allegory.
@El_oh71995 күн бұрын
As a horror movie fan, I would be much more interested in an adaptation of the McGuire novel

Thank you. You have confirmed my suspicions that this story is just as implied. Wicked, 7:51 and book and movie should be avoided completely.

So much potential to take risks as in the wicked novels, an antagonist with songs

This is supposed to be a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. If anybody seen the play wicked, it has nothing to do with anything bad you see the wicked witch evolving and trying to be a better person. There was nothing ever wrong with the Wizard of Oz itself. I think people are just taking this a little bit to the extreme and have to go by one’s conscious, especially as a Christian Pray about it God will lead you.
@Dalekzilla7 күн бұрын
ROTFL. I don't think anyone cares. The movie is breaking boxoffice records in the U.S. and worldwide. The overwhelming majority of people who've seen it, love it. Yes, the book is quite different from the musical. The 1939 MGM Wizard of Oz was also very different from the original Baum novel.
@themadlibrarian29334 күн бұрын
The first thing that I did after getting home from "Wicked" was to reserve the audiobook. I never liked Glinda in the 1939 version of "The Wizard of Oz". She was too sugary sweet in what felt like a fake way. Granted, I was about 8 when I first saw it.

Thank you for this helpful video. It confirms what I already suspected. I wouldn’t enjoy the book.

For those disappointed with the movie adaptation of the musical, imagine how those who originally read the novel felt-dramatically disappointed with how the musical adapted the story. Lol

I really can't believe 😒that there are two parts of Wicked movies instead of doing whole thing and I'm very annoyed that we will have to wait for next year November released of the second part of Wicked to come out so we can see the rest o the version.
@JasperDamian6 күн бұрын
Sucks we have to wait, but given the first part is 2 hours and 40 minutes long on its own they would have had to choose between cutting out important scenes or having a 7 hour long film 🤧 (and of course out of all of those choices the 2 parter is going to give the studio more money)
@ambz4185 сағат бұрын
very true i was so disappointed.. But to be optimistic, at least we get to be excited that there is more movie to watch next year!
