At Christmas, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the nativity. Why do people think Jesus was born on December 25th? When did this myth start? Did Christians borrow the Dec 25th date from a pagan festival like the winter solstice or Saturnalia or was it something else?
In this video I'm going to look at Hippolytus of Rome and Julius Sextus Africanus, two the of the first people to write about Jesus birth being December 25th.

Is he secretly still alive, on a Facebook or Twitter profile? If he dies to protect our sins, don’t you get what that second word means? He’s dead…., but my friends and family dying won’t be remembered 2000 years later. Im not saying they died to protect our sins in order to be loved as much as Jesus, cause he was the only specimen that ever needed to do this. Now, we needed someone to harness electricity and use it to give us light, like within lightbulbs - Thomas Edison - his reputation is 300 years known about. Cleo Patra is known for 1,000 years. I guess all I’d need to do is event the time machine and tell God I want to be that if who dies to protect our sins and have stolen Jesuses beautiful title right?, why not, it’s a time machine, I can fix a lot of problems within our universe, I can stop the nazi war from ever happening, I can prevent 9/11, stop isis, Al-Qeada. But all Jesus will do with god though is sit all the up from Heaven with a bag of popcorn saying, humans, haha, their my favorite show! I love this movie? Fun fact: When the first pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower they did not celebrate holidays such as Christmas or Easter. They believed those holidays were man-made and were not in the Bible. Great video man. Keep it up. 👍

Sadly he did nothing solid here but ask for money. He's not sharing the truth the living Word. He doesn't know that Jesus came into this world as a pure spotless lamb and there's only 1 time a year that took place in Jerusalem. He didn't mention anything about there not being room in the Inn because there was a Census going on that year look to Jonathan Cahn or someone that has studied the traditions and customs of Jerusalem at that time, that knows the pagan festivals to get to the truth because our souls depend on it. He was born on december 25th. First day of Hanukkah (Feast of Dedication) then circumcized on the 8th day - last day of feast of dedication. Hanukkah is to be celebrated on the 25th of the 9th month - Kislev. Kislev generally correlates to December in the Romanized calendar version. So 25th day of Kislev is best represented as 25th of December on our calendar.

So, some people placed the creation of the world at the equinox because theological significance, and 9 months after that is how they got the dec 25th date. Except that they didn't know that the julian calendar wasn't in sync with the orbit of the earth so instead of just saying he was born on the solstice they gave a specific date. (And also the calendar drift makes all their maths wrong anyways but lets not go into that) Come to modern times and we now use that specific date instead of the period of time it represented. Does that about sum it up?

I think that's a definately a big part of it. They didn't always show their working out so we can't know their exact reasonings. But yes, for the most part they made theological speculations and attached fixed dates to them, and they ended up being wrong a lot haha.

Thanks for the cool video. Just wondering about a theory I've heard, that we can know Jesus was born in December because we can place Zachariah temple service in time and from that get the date to John's birth and from there Jesus's. Ever heard of this? Does it hold any water?

Thanks for watching! Great question, unfortunately, Zachariah's temple service can't definitavely dated definitavely. Luke 1:5 implies that Zechariah was serving Abijah, the 8th course of priests. They would either serve in the 3rd month or the 9th month. People have tried to use this to extrapolate Jesus's birth in December. There are lots of problems with this: 1. The story doesn't say when John was conceieved. 2. Even if we assume he was conceived when the Angel visited, we don't know at what point in Zechariah's service that was (they lasted many weeks). 3. There are two possibilities for Zechariah's service. 4. This theory also makes a huge assumption that Mary must have conceived when the Angel spoke to her, this is never stated. 5. Luke's dates don't always align with other details (i.e. the problems with him dating the census to Quirinius). TL:DR - Yes there is a theory. It involves too many unstated assumptions to hold any water.

Vatican states that Donnatists from North African Christians who set the date based on his death. There was a Jewish folklore that holy men died and the date they were conceived. These Donnatists moved to Italy, they irritated Egalabus and therefore Egalabus decided to make the 25th Sol Invictus. He ticked off all that believed in Roman gods also. but Christmas day was not born on "christmas day" they tell us "jesus" was born on that day. however gospel of Luke suggests "jesus" was born in the summer or maximum autumn time. this 25th December was "dictated" as the birth of jesus in the 4th century AD. According to the Gospel of Luke, shepherds were watching their flocks at night at the time Jesus was born. This detail - the only clue in the Gospels about the timing of the birth - suggests that Jesus's birthday was not in the winter, as shepherds would have been watching their flocks only during the lambing season in the spring. In the colder months, the sheep probably would have been corralled. might want to read this several times and think about what your telling folks Jesus being born on December 25th isn't Biblical and wonder why we have so many false theologians so in other words March 25th or April 25th, but well their goes that Pagan self worship that everyone does in December to make themselves feel good, it doesn't make Christ feel good, he's not a baby anymore, but yet people continue to treat him like one perhaps 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 will remind some in the Old Testament they celebrated folks death, not birth
