Using the standards of gold and fame as measures, Sid Vicious, or Sid Justice, or Psycho Sid, is a Hall of Fame-caliber wrestler. A four-time World champion, Sid more than looked the part of a looming final boss: a six-foot, nine-inch gargantuan that tossed hapless sacks of humanity around like driftwood, while wearing an unblinking gaze occasionally betrayed by a twisted snarl...

Back in the day, there was a wrestler named Ox Baker who killed a guy using the heart punch... sort of. The guy actually died in the ring due to something else but Baker played it up for his character. So maybe that story had something to do with why that move stuck out to him. Or he was seeing it for how legitimately dangerous it is to be punched like that. Either way, Sid could definitely end a life if he hit a person with a real heart punch...

You have to remember, though completely inexcusable, the Sid/Arn thing was a two-sided affair. Sid may have stabbed Arn like 20 times, but Arn also stabbed Sid in the stomach at one point, and by all accounts it was Arn that brought the scissors into the fight.
@luridan
@luridan 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, multiple wrestlers attested to the event, mainly 2 Cold Scorpio, Vader, and Austin. Arn introduced and stabbed Sid first with the scissors, and Vader basically saved Sid's life after by putting his thumb in the stab wound to prevent him from bleeding out till the medics arrived.

Sid's career is fascinating and I think Jack's line 'this is more apparent in his unique wrestlemania history, he has only worked two Mania, and both times he was in the main event'. And that's Sid. He is a rare athlete in the ring and an amazing background charisma. But due to bad luck, bad politics, bad attitude, and bad poor decisions he was never a mainstay main eventer. Cornette said of Sid 'Sid's the kind of guy who will make you a million dollars in one night but afterwards they will never want to see it again' I think that's partially true though. How many matches can you get out of Sid, Warrior, Goldberg before the crowd turns on them. Their weakness was and always that they couldn't tell a story. That's what kept Hogan and Cena on the top for so long despite being only slightly better hands; those two could tell a story between the ropes.

Man, I bumped into Sid at a hotel in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada after a house show there in the early 90's. He was in the lobby, checking into his room & he was still wearing his wrestling gear, but with a t-shirt on. At the time, I was 6'3" and weighing in at about 245 pounds. He made me feel like a 10 year old. I could tell that he wasn't in the mood to talk, so I just said hello & left it at that. LOL!!! For those that were wondering, he lost to Shawn Michaels after a super kick.

One of the most effective heels of the 1990s, for sure. You always knew the faces would be in trouble when he decided to take them on. And to be fair, the promos that did not work out that well were usually those were the nice & relatable guy was showing through when he tried to pretend to be the unflappable monster. I personally would love to see him in the WWE hall of fame as much as I would love him to turn up as a surprise ring enforcer in AEW/TNA/ROH/NJPW/YouNameIt.

I understand one thing about pro wrestling. The more you last or exist in a wrestling promotion if your name is not a catchy name & a wrestler doesn’t makes it to the top of the wrestling card then is time to change your name to something catchy or some other name that brings any wrestler to be a catchy name or fame like “The undertaker”, “Ultimate Warrior”, “The road warriors”, which gave them catchy names & topics to talk about at the dinner table or get kids to watch them or buy their merchandise a lot more. Needless to say any wrestler that has their merchandise flying off the shelves definitely is going to get pushed a lot more within the promotion & be given top card at any wrestling event. Changing your name often like in the case of “Cold Stone” , Steve Austin definitely gave him a top spot because the other names were not working but as soon as he re-branded his name merchandise started flying off the shelves & (Cold Stone) had more matches & more wrestling contracts making him a household name & his merchandise flew off the shelves like hot bread. So wrestling is about having a catchy name & hoping your merchandise is flying off the shelves because is the only way to get new contracts & make more money which the dream all wrestlers pursue in their conquest of professional wrestling.

As a kid, Sid was my favorite wrestler. He was supposed to be doing an autograph signing at a local car dealership in 97. I was so excited to go. It was so disappointing at the time to find out upon arriving that he had been in a car accident and would be replaced by Tripple H, who at the time was still doing that overly corny Hunter Hurst Helmsley blue blood act, and Chyna. Needless to say, im happy now to have Tripple H's autograph but at the time I was sooooo mad. Side note: Chyna was no less than 3x his size and made him look like a child.

There's never been (at least since the end of the territories era) anyone whose career path was quite like Sid's, and in this age of gigantic multi-year contracts, talent hoarding, no-compete clauses, and generally more reluctance than ever before to strongly book talent the promotion doesn't trust to be a "company guy", it's unlikely there ever will be again. Even with guys like Samoa Joe and AJ Styles, who've been nigh-perennial upper-carders in multiple promotions, you really can't say it's the same thing. Sid is certainly an anomaly on the professional wrestling timeline.
