A lot of you may know Sigtryggr from the show the last Kingdom. Where he was introduced to us as a savage Viking leader who later befriended the shows protagonist Uhtred. The Real Sigtryggr however, had much more of a deep rooted history being the son of the legendary Ivar the boneless. He was a member of the Ui Imair which was a royal Norse-Gael dynasty which ruled much of the Irish Sea region, the Kingdom of Dublin, the western coast of Scotland and some parts of Northern England from the mid 9th century.
Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
01:07 Chapter 1- Driven out of Ireland & Exile
03:35 Chapter 2- Reclaiming his lands & War
06:27 Chapter 3- The King of Jorvik

The Last Kingdom was so good that they can make a series for each character. There is so much history here with each of the main characters like Sigtruggr, Ragnar, Cnut, etc.

That would be Amazing. Unfortunately for whatever Dumba$$ reason, Netflix scrapped 2 more seasons and decided to end it with the Film 7 Kings Must Die. It definitely wasn't a ratings or money Issue. I've watched the seasons several times, especially to fall asleep too. Also there's not much source material to work with for all of them but a fantastic writing team could fix that.

The Last Kingdom did a fascinating job of pairing Sigtryggr with Uhtred. The biggest failure of the movie/finale is not showing Sigtryggr in the Halls of Valhalla at the end. He really was the mirror and kin to Uhtred in the show. I think there was more to explore there, but like most stories it had to be contained. Shame though because Sigtryggr certainly has a fascinating story to tell and worked great (story wise) with Uhtred. I hope more people dig into him

If you look him up he was called Boneless because of his cruelty and they found his bones in a pit of like 250 other people. They estimate him to be 9ft tall. The Vikings show did that for dramatic purposes. In real life he would have been left to die just like Ragnar tried to do.

There's a story of how Ivar was buried near Hastings. William the bastard dig him up years later and scattered his remains as the superstitious Normans Ivar would haunt them for abandoning the old Gods. Also there are two records for Rollo and in one he is grandson of Bjorn (Gongu Hrolfr - Rollo the Walker). The other has him as an exile from Denmark who got in trouble with Harald Finehair after he stole Harald s cattle

Sihtric would never submit to the anglo saxons. If he hadnt died he would surely have expanded the danelaw. Why u think athelstan felt the need to give his own sister in marriage to a godless pagan?? Sihtric was too crafty and mighty a warrior for athelstan to handle on the battlefield.
@ML-bw4yt
@ML-bw4yt Жыл бұрын
Ever since Wessex began its expansion into the Danelaw it was unstoppable. No Viking kings could stand in its way, many tried and they died in battle. He was king of York, the Anglo-Saxons would’ve successfully besieged the city like they did to many others and he would’ve been killed or exiled. Here you’re talking about Æthelstan being no match for him on the battlefield... Æthelstan defeated a huge alliance of Scots, Britons and Vikings at Brunanburh in 937.

@jacktheripper5019
@jacktheripper5019 Жыл бұрын
@@ML-bw4yt well if u did ur research u would know that the viking lines held firm at brunanburh.. it was the scots which gave way and olaf had to fall back if he was to avoid outflanking. Besides athelstans brother was defeated in a great battle at leicester by olaf in 940. All anglo saxon gains in 50 years was reversed by olaf in one battle.
