There was another factor - Jericho vs Omega in New Japan was apparently one of the things that convinced Tony that the time was right for a new promotion.

It's stupid. Cody Rhodes responsible for the creation on AEW? That's Kayfabe at it's best. This is bigger than some stupid wrestler trying to prove he can promote an event on social media lol. This is illuminati bullshit. Maybe Vince McMahon pissed off his puppet masters and they decided to give him another "major" promotion. Or they want to wake up WWE via competition. The world is a work.

I watched the first episode of "Dynamite." That Friday was the first Fox "Smackdown." It featured an 8 second squash of Kofi Kingston by Brock Lesnar for The WWE Championship. I was angered because Kofimania had been so good and Kofi just gets buried. At this moment, the fact that Kofi was champ is not mentioned ever. That squash of Kofi killed my need to watch WWE. AEW became my go to wrestling spot.

Yeah I mean WWE haven't been doing themselves any favours for a long time, their booking was repetative and honestly bottom of the barrell at times, no effort needed as its all many felt they had without going out their way to find an alternative, jericho and omega had me interested, that whole AEW announcement outdoors was what made me go "oh, this is actually happening, cool, competition"

The piece that's missing and it's a big piece is Don Callis. If didn't start a podcast at the behest of Jericho he would have never sat with Kenny and Jericho in Winnipeg realizing that he and Kenny had a relationship. This led Kenny to getting Callis a job in NJPW. Callis pitched Alpha vs Omega which is what led to TK deciding that wrestling's international appeal was viable to products other than WWE.

While I think this is well done, I don't think you can talk about the creation of AEW without going a little bit more into the dissatisfaction that many of its stars have had with WWE. From Punk originally leaving and likely never returning to Cody to Jericho to Moxley. The entire Elite resisted the overtures from WWE because they knew their worth and knew they'd be misused.

I think aew should have been delayed a little bit more longer than this until 2021 because I still wanted Cody, young bucks, page, Kenny and Marty to keep winning New Japan and Ring of Honor gold. I wanted to see Cody win roh belt again, and Marty also win it, Cody at least winning the IWGP ic championship, backs win the IWGP heavyweight tag team Championships along with the roh tag team Championships, hangman page winning roh TV championship and then the IWGP us title and Kenny Omega keeping the IWGP championship until Russell Kingdom 14 becoming a part of the dash for gold. Granted that would have meant that aw would have been delayed because of the pandemic but we still would have got everything we wanted.

What got me excited for AEW was the presentation as promotion by wrestlers for wrestlers. The Bucks, Cody and Omega were front and center, and that gave me confidence that something amazing was coming. Now it seems like it's falling into WCW tropes. The roster is getting more bloated, the angles are getting more hokey, and the resident billionaire coming gradually off the rails. That's without mentioning the production gaffes and botches - forgivable for an upstart alternative, not so much for something presenting itself as a direct competitor.
@Kabra2012

@@VelvetMetrolink everything I said and the mention of production gaffes is the only thing you could go for? I'll bite tho, the production gaffes on AEW are on a whole other level. They only get overlooked coz ppl wanna give the upstart a pass. There's the odd mistake, and then there's the Dark Order throwing punches half a head north of their target in plain view of the cameras.
@christophermarriott1681
@christophermarriott1681 2 жыл бұрын
@@Kabra2012 It's not giving them the pass. It's AEW fans giving AEW the benefit of the doubt that AEW has earned with the goodwill that they made with their fans to make up for their mistakes to the fans and to always try and put effort to give the fans what they want. AEW fans want a company to TRY AND PUT EFFORT in their product no matter what. That's what people fail to understand.
@Kabra2012
@Kabra2012 2 жыл бұрын
@@christophermarriott1681 Earned? That goodwill you speak of is nothing more than an attempt by fans to create a new outlet for their WWE frustrations. The same fans will run WWE film under a microscope to find things to criticize - AEW stabs you in the eye sockets with their screw-ups, but it seems the fanboys were blind before then anyway. I'm willing to forgive the issues to see the promotion mature and grow, but I can't overlook how stupid AEW diehards look right now.

Pointless storylines. Carnival acts for matches. Pointless booking to compliment the pointless storylines. It's too bad JR, Cody, Moxley and Sting have slipped this far. There is so much opportunity here and these writers couldn't book a decent angle if their life depended on it. People are marking out for this product for two reasons; one, they hate wwe and want something different. Or, two, they genuinely haven't the slightest clue about wrestling, storylines, or plotting a decent angle. They're Cirque de Soleil ticket buyers. They shaved a poor girl's head for angle and we haven't ever seen her again. That's how disorganized this show is. There's no babyfaces versus heels because we don't have a clue who is a good guy or a bad guy from week to week! If you hate wwe, just hate wwe. They haven't been good in years, but don't tell fellow wrestling fans this is a good show and insult those of us that just want a coherent plot driven show with meaningful progress week to week. It's not a lot to ask. *NOT* being wwe doesn't make this show good. If the bar is that low, perhaps you need to just give up on pro wrestling as a fan.

Wrestling sucks that much that you need a midcarder like Chris Jericho to push a promotion? What is it with Jericho anyways? Hes midcard talent at best and he was once the undisputed unified champion at one point. This business of wrestlers staying around gor 30 years needs to stop. There should be a shelf life for this shit.

I'm sorry, but this is an "all fart no shit" video and doesnt give any true insight or say anything new. It also underplays the importance of Tony Khan and the NJPW match between Jericho and Omega. If someone had a watched a few more interviews with Matt Jackson and Tony Khan, you would have a much more interesting video. e.g. the story around the negotiation period - as in how close the Elite were to joining WWE. Tony Khan speaking to the head of TNT/TBS in April 2018 about the idea of starting a new wrestling company. They are key milestones and they're barely mentioned or not at all. D+ video and thats for the decent editing.
