Outstanding movie about a neglected and abandoned boy who presevered against all odds to become founder of the Make A Wish non-profit organization. His own quite extreme adversities prepared him to be instrumental in helping so many children bring their wishes to fruition. A wonderful, feel good movie with a strong cast.

One of the producers of this movie is my cousin. In a very surreal twist of fate, his young son was just in a motorcycle accident and is suffering from a severe brain injury. We didn't know if he was going to make it, but thank God his prognosis is good. Funny how life does that.

What a stunning movie! Was jsut reading up about it and wonder why the movie didn't say :"Based on..." but also i don't see his name in the wiki page. The page credits Tommy Austin for starting the first wish as in the movie. Why don't we Frank's name?

There is a 'Bases on the life of Frank Shankwitz' in the opening credits. Also, Tommy Austin was the man played by Larry Wilcox in the film. He was responsible for introducing the boy to the cops. However, the foundation itself was Frank's idea, he got it off the ground and was the first President of the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Wendy Combe I did but it just shows he takes the dog after he finds out the mom left. But does the dog grow old with him or does he give him away. I did some research of my own after and they say if you read the book you’re going to need some tissues for corkys story.

Unfortunately, the dog was left behind and in real life the father never took him with him. Frank watched as Corky chased after the car util he couldn't run anymore. That was the last time Frank ever saw him. In the movie, the father takes him with him because the reality was too heartbreaking for dog/animal lovers!
