I think you misinterpreted the abortion question. JD Vance actually said that Trump would veto a national abortion ban. In the debate when the moderators asked if this was true, Trump did not confirm that he would veto a bill that bans abortion nationally.
@Transhumanist_AdamАй бұрын
It was a dumb question that Vance mucked up on. If there was a bill to Veto it would have passed congress - why would he veto something that had been democratically determined.

Someone heard Adiai Stevenson’s impressive speech and said, “Every thinking person in America will be voting for you.” Stevenson replied, “I’m afraid that won’t do-I need a majority.”
@chickenfishhybrid44Ай бұрын
Please Bob, everyone knows the US isnt perfect on free speech or literally anything. Far from it. Most people also know the US is more consistent in defending speech than most other places. I feel like you have a knee-jerk need to always add in "But America bad." Im even often sympathetic to your points, but it gets to be cringe.
@CougarPhillАй бұрын
"Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself." Kamala had no reason to add on to, retort, or otherwise address Trump's dogs and cats rant. She handled it perfectly in my estimation. She very tactfully baited and goaded him into these deranged rants and he bought it hook line and sinker.

Have you watched the Springfield city council meeting where citizens are verifying what trump stated.
@coreyander286Ай бұрын
Oh, verifying? With videos, or photos, or forensic proof? Or do you mean with further personal testimony and hearsay? You don't by any chance mean the city council meeting where someone from a far-right group called "Blood Pride" told a story, do you?

What is your point that the US government has put pressure on social media companies, Bob? Elon and others have spoken out against that, too.. That's one of his alleged reasons for buying Twitter. Elon explicitly said on an All-In pod that they follow the law in other countries and claimed they thought that what Brazil was asking them to do was against their laws. Obviously, he can just be wrong about it, but it's not like he thinks the law of the US applies or something. "Different countries have different rules." Profound stuff here, Bob.
@slavajuriАй бұрын
The Supreme Court of Brazil IS the law. Same as the US. Musk can claim whatever he wants - he's not an expert in Brazilian law, and he clearly wasn't willing to follow it when it didn't suit his ends.
@roughlygalaxyАй бұрын
Well, when you think you know better about the laws than the country's Supreme Court, the law no longer matters, what matters is what you think.
@coreyander286Ай бұрын
The better criticism of Elon is that he should be trying to defy other countries' laws more on human rights grounds. Like he should not have cooperated with Turkey's censorship. Jack Dorsey's Twitter did not cooperate with Turkey's censorship like Elon's did.

If I have committed a horrific crime in my past, and then I see someone else committing similar horrific crimes to others, it actually is not a virtuous thing for me to stay silent, or not condemn the other person doing that horrific crime, or refrain from trying to stop that other person from doing that horrific crime. That's why Wright's "America has also done wrong" obsession is so bizarre. Like, how is the world actually helped by America refraining from supporting Ukraine too vigorously and saying, "Hey, we don't want to look hypocritical by supporting Ukraine when we have invaded countries in the past." But this is in response to Wright's comparison of the TikTok ban with the Brazil ban.

Bob, your claim weeks ago that Kamala might be more of a restrainer than Biden, and your asking in this episode of why Kamala "feels the need" to show she is on the side of the blob, elides the simple answer. She is a bog standard issue politician and will of course support every policy proposal of the security state.

Why wouldn't u want a second debate ? Are u not confident in her to do interviews and debates successfully ? If not why do u want her as president ?
@coreyander286Ай бұрын
Well I would want her as president because she respects the Constitution and Trump did everything in his power to violate the Constitution through the false electors plot in January 2021. But even that aside, I do want a second debate, and so does Harris, it's Trump who's ran from a second debate.
@nir7830Ай бұрын
@@coreyander286 if you want a second debate then my IF question was not for you. as for trump, as far as I know despite the horrifyingly biased wikipedia entry on the subject that presents it as fact of the matter, it is nevertheless just alleged. If it wasn't he would not be running - in fact if there was serious substance in it, the anti trump media would be all over it 24/7 until election day. as for harris, while her campaign may claim they want a 2nd debate, they effectively hide her from the public as she has given just a single interview since she was swapped with biden, despite the ultra supportive media.

On the free speach topic, and states controlling information, while in principle I am a fan of it personally, I think there's an increasingly large issue with a lack of information control in all media, social media and traditional media. It is obviously going to be the case that governments ban information that makes them look bad that people should have access to, but this information free for all is absolutely leading to political polarisation, a loss of social cohesion, and a significant number of people being lead to believe in totally insane conspiracy theories which have no basis in reality. I don't think people are well equipped to differentiate truth from falsehood, I consider myself quite well educated and experienced in doing so, and I still can't be certain of everything I take away from information I consume online. I think the inevitable result is going to be information control that looks a lot more like China's than the current state of America's information control.
@chickenfishhybrid44Ай бұрын
This is not unlike gun control or various other things. Do I think there is clear misinformation that in theory would be better for our society to not have to deal with? Of course. The question is, who and how it is decided what should be censored or suppressed. Many gun owners are fine with the theory of being at least a little more stringent on who can legally obtain and own guns etc. One of the issues is the lack of trust in the government or its agencies doing so in a fair and transparent way.

19:06 the guest is completely off the track by giving Trump credit for anything. Smooth talking isn’t a virtue. Surprising that your guest mistakes smooth talk for high-level mental functioning. Most world dictators can hold their own in conversation. However, most of them start screaming when their emotions get the better of them.

They're making fun of the people who believe Haitians do that, not the Haitians. I'm sure Robert Wright respects the spirit of Toussaint L'Ouverture.

@coreyander286 It is not a joking matter. It lessens the serious maliciousness of what Trump and Vance are doing. Substitute Jews instead of Haitians, and maybe you will understand.
