If the goal is to reduce the use of gasoline/diesel the real answer would be a hybrid and/or a battery that can be swapped easily (a near dead one for a fully charged one).

swiping batterie like nio will never work. the infrastructure needed just to switch ONE battery worth like 500M.. its pretty ridiculous and thats only to recharge ONE car. An ev is not for anyone.. if you stay somewhere you cant charge during the night i dont think a ev is good for you

And long sitting times and a short and shitty range over the road really sucks. I'll keep my gas car all day. Fueling once a month at 3 to 5 minutes and not 20 minutes or 20 hours.570 miles of range which supersedes any EV and paid off at 41K. Love my Jaguar XJl..keep the EV....

@@carlsmith5545 well i guess it depend on everyone situation i have a tesla model 3 since 5 year now. i charge at home or at work. i pay around 5$ / month if not less .. while it charge at night i never go to gas station and i charge at job and its free. i save around 5000$/year on gas and my car is working fine, never had a issue with it. im at 70 000 KM. So, i guess what can i say about it.. at the moment i cant complain

Megapacks at Semi Charger stations to balance loads and quickly charge as well as adding solar canopies to reduce cost in the long run and help the grid during the day. 4680's at GigaNavada will be dedicated for Semi production and Tesla still working on putting 48 volt architecture into Semi. as well as steer by wire.

As of Feb 20204 there is NO battery shortage. The company is actually producing more than needed for current demand. The facilities were not having problems. They were being upgraded to produce more units and advanced technology was being introduced in the new units. The battery factory was reached and exceeded last year, 2023.

The power need can easily be overcome by the fact that power is transferred from one area to another through the power grid. Nothing you said is impossible to overcome other than cost and getting it up and going. Has anyone actually ever seen new technology unable to overcome the challenges? The answer is NO!

The Semi Truck would work in hot sunny climates like Australia providing it had flexible solar panels on the roof of the trailers to augment the batteries.
@belevarielectricbikes4589
@belevarielectricbikes4589 3 ай бұрын
a trailer is 13.6m long and 2.4m wide, lets assume you fill the entire roof with solar = 32m2 per square meter of solar power when laid flat would be max 150w per sqm. Thus a trailer can produce 4.8kw if clean and in full sun. A tesla semi when driving uses 1.5-2.0kw per mile meaning, at 60mph that means 30-40kw per hour. This investment would not make sense, its a drop of water on a hot plate.

You fail to memtion that the battery needs to reach a specific temp to allow the batteries to be charged. So you refer to cabin heat, but fail to mention battery pack heat. No heat in battery equals delayed charging of the battery pack.

We can use size A, B and C in electric mode as local or final delivery, but for long hauler units, diesel is the best so far, Hydrogen is an option if You want to ride on a bomb shell truck it self that is qualify as dangerous cargo transportation in its self alone. Ouch. TH

Considering that Tesla is reinventing the production processes that make vehicles, it is NO surprise that they run into hurdles. They are so far ahead of the legacy makers both in production and in technology. Still the machinery is available and is progressing. Musk is basically reinventing the wheel here so what they THINK is possible is not always so. Still they are innovating on a daily basis so I am sure they will solve these problems. No car maker has EVER expanded on such a remarkable pace or achieved the progress they have so far accomplished. Plus there is new tech coming faster and faster so a solution may be just around the corner, or they will again come up with new tech on their own. They have moved mountains in just 10yrs so patience.

"The estimated cost for a full charge on a Tesla Semi is $15.50"? That seems almost too good to be true. Doesn't this thing have a 1000kwh battery? 15.50/1000= 0.0155. Rounded up, that's just 1.6 cents per kilowatt hour. Where can you buy electricity for that? And solar to charge these things? You're having a laugh aren't you? Once again, it's a 1,000kwh battery. In ideal conditions it takes about 53 square feet of photo voltaic cells to produce just 1 kwh in one hour. So it's going to take 53,000 square feet of solar panels, in ideal conditions, to charge 1 truck in 1 hour. Let's just call that a soccer pitch full of solar panels, with a bit of room to walk between them. Or 2 0r 3 soccer fields worth if it's cloudy. Sorry, never going to happen. And what's this nonsense about reducing power in order to preserve the tyres? I think that we all know that tyres wear faster when more power is applied to them and they lose traction. I don't know about you, but I don't think that you're going to see too many operators doing burnouts in these things! Tyres aren't rated for power for a reason. It's not a consideration. Load and speed are considerations. I smell typical Musk BS. More likely is that the drive train isn't up to the task or the cell resistance produces too much heat driven to extremes for longer periods. It is not the tyres. So, batteries still aren't figured out, production line not ready, charging network not in place. You'll wear out at least one Kenworth waiting for one of these things to hit the showroom. Can't wait to see one of these things independently tested towing 82,000lbs 500 miles. I'll be eating my words when that happens, if it ever happens.

every 5sqm area will give 1kw of solar power per hour. solar will never be able to charge up the Mega packs alone. it helps, but charging up the packs will need help from the grid. Lets just hope that the grid gets cleaner. Investing in solar farms still makes sense at double digit returns.

@@belevarielectricbikes4589 And how the fv@k is the grid going to get greener if we keep jamming the best energy storage devices that we have, batteries, into something that we use for less than an hour per day. Electricity generation is responsible for 5 times the emissions than passenger cars. Wouldn't it be a somewhat better use of resources if instead of jamming these batteries in cars, we jammed them into stationary storage and maximise the efficiency and usage of renewables? You know... use them 24 hours a day to reduce emissions in the biggest polluting mess of an industry on the planet!!! You know... actually invest in solar farms or even net feed in storage systems in our homes? Invest in something that maximises the potential (no pun intended) of these batteries. Noooooo, that's stupid! Instead of doing that, jam a whopping big battery in a whopping great big heavy car and charge it using the most polluting infrastructure on the planet, mainly at night when solar isn't doing a damned thing and wind generation is less than optimal! That's the answer! But I hear your mind ticking. What do we drive? The answer is smaller ICE vehicles than we do, on average, now, until we fix the damned grid. When you compare them to these lard assed electron munching monsters, they're actually not that much worse in the context of emissions. And we insist that our governments upgrade public transport networks and we use public transport and we use it. Invest in solar farms. So dumb. Why would I do that when I can park my big shiny green virtue signalling pile of waste in my driveway 23 hours a day so the Jone's and the Smiths can see how enlightened I am and how willing I am to do my bit. And why would governments invest in public transport infrastructure and renewables when instead they can just legislate that I drive an EV and not do a damned thing? EV's have their place, don't get me wrong. But they are also a distraction. Historians will ponder how we got this so wrong.

If mega charging is used, the battery life will be significantly reduced according to Peukert battery life curves and is backed up by huge battery degradation in EV rental cars. The battery replacement cost could easily exceed $100,000 plus labor and downtime. That combined with the price going up to $250,000 eliminates any breakeven point in long-haul operations. The Mega chargers are very expensive and will require significant expensive infrastructure plus maintenance. The cost of recharging will be much higher than the whole sale rate of electricity. It is reported that Pepsi purchase was heavily subsidized.

Aside from the plethora of data pertaining to the impact of high current rate charging on L-ion batteries (science!), just look at the anecdotal evidence starting to amass from those that use their EV's commercially and fast charge on a daily basis. And somehow people still believe that this is going to be what brings EV trucks in to line with their diesel counterparts.

Something that should be impacting the electric cost, but isn’t, is a road use tax similar to what non-EV owners are paying at the pumps! This unfair situation needs corrected! 😳 Apparently this situation isn’t obvious enough to be noticed by our elected officials.
