In her defense (and as someone who has suffered with bad acne my whole adult life), I wouldn't look in the "bad skin" comment too much. Bad skin is another way of saying problematic/misbehaving skin... which it is, let's face it. The skin is acting up in a way that affects people negatively physically and mentally - therefore it is bad in that sense. People are beautiful despite their breakouts, but it's just a simple way to refer to it. I take no offense to this comment.

Isotretinoin saved my skin and my confidence in my early 20s! I tried everything and I was lucky to have a good dermatologist that helped me on this journey, way before all the information was available like it is today on the internet. My treatment took 8 months and on the first month my acne was almost all gone, my face was clear and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I’m grateful for her. Treating inside out is the best way for severe cases.

I started getting acne at age 11. I’m 31 now and still get spots. I started using Epiduo gel from the doctors about 3 years ago. It has helped a lot. I don’t have big breakouts anymore. It’s a very strong cream though so it does dry your skin out, and if you use too much it will burn your skin and leave you red and peeling. So I’m careful to only use it when necessary. All those years I never went to the doctors assuming it would just go away eventually. My mum never took me as a teenager either. It massively affected how I am now as an adult. I am very very introverted. My teen years I had friends. But I avoided at all costs talking to anybody new because I didn’t want anybody to look directly at me. Now, although I’ve got better over the years, I’m quite shy and not the chattiest in the room. So I believe it had a massive effect on the way I am today. Those important years developing my personality were hindered by me just wanting the ground to swallow me up.

Roacuttaine is the only meds that will clear acne x It’s administered through a dermatologist. You’re monitored with monthly blood tests . The side effects are aching joints, nose bleeds and dry lips. However the benefits of the drug far out way the side effects x Your dosage is dependent on your weight and this was constantly checked at the hospital with monthly blood tests for a total of 20 weeks x Hope this helps 🎉 Good luck to all on your acne journey ❤❤❤❤

I had terrible acne as a teenager and tretinoin helped tremendously. But I couldn’t afford it for long. Going on birth control helped in my 20s but I wouldn’t recommend that to everyone. I was on/off tretinoin in my 30s bc I had 2 pregnancies and you have to be off it during those times. I started to get acne again in my 40s even with tretinoin and it was definitely due to perimenopause. I paid for 3 rounds of the Accure laser (about $5k total) which targets subaceous glands. There was purging after each round but it helped so much. If I get a pimple, it is so small and it’s gone if I put salicylic acid on it. Accure laser was a game changer.

I had excruciating acne, it hurt so much. It was swollen. Nothing anyone said worked. Dr said it was cystic acne or hormone related. If this sounds like you, try and have a baby and breastfeed haha been clear ever since! This acne didn't happen until adulthood but i did stop the combined pill after having since i was 13. No GP has ever given me roaccutane

Please do hormonal blood tests and investigate gynaecological causes if you are a woman who suddenly develops acne in your twenties. There is a cause, the medical profession doesn’t bother to investigate. Easier to slap on creams and stick someone on drugs.

Yes, it can be this. The skin is what can be termed "psychosomatic." It's connected to the mind-body - especially the gut. Gut and psychological issues often show on the skin. The best approach is a holistic one, in my opinion.

I had horrible severe cyctic acne abd folliculitis my entire teenage years and into my late 30s. I was terrified of using isotretinoin (roaccutane) so avoided it. As a male, hormones were not an option, doctors prescribed me every topical under the sun along with antibiotics which really damaged my gut microbiome. In the end the only thing that resolved it was roaccutane, i did a 12 month course, 20mg daily. I had my last pill in June and havent had a pimple or cyst since. Unfortunately my folliculitis has returned, ill have to go back to the dermatologist but im thankful my face is clear!

You don’t need medication. You need to improve your diet. How they push this narrative is beyond me. I’ve had acne scars for more years I’ve been alive. Suddenly, cutting sugar, exercising, it went away. Medicine is nuanced and things can be different for different people. But diet, sleep and weight need to be the first thing you speak. Not medication. God awful propaganda
