As someone who has graduated basic training a couple weeks ago I can definitely say it’s a lot easier than what I anticipated. My expectations of basic were of war movies full metal jacket, hacksaw ridge etc.. and stories from my military family members. But they went in a different time when it was a lot harder and expectations were different. I think this is the best time to do basic it was challenging but I never thought about quitting. For all of you guys going into basic soon just know you got this I did it and I’m retarded so you definitely can do it too! 👍

Basic training is easy. After your first 2 weeks, everyday is just another check mark. But the field is pretty fun! Especially the Anvil and Forge. All the night drills and infentrations are cool as hell. You'll be able to shoot blanks (fake bullets but with a real weapon) at enemies with night vision and it feels like you're actually in a real mission with the friends you make in basic. It's awesome. I was a squad leader during my Anvil and Forge so it was awesome as hell to lead my whole formation! You also get to shoot with real bullets too (please don't hit em with a brrrrrraaap though, haha) There's no phones or music but it feels so nice to listen to music on sundays when it's phone time. I always wrote my favorite songs in a notebook so I could listen to them in the back of my head. So do that if you like music. The only thing I hated about basic was the amount of food we got. But it gets better with time, trust me.

For anyone shipping off to basic training, my advice is to first RELAX. It isn’t like what you see on the movies, & YOUR experience won’t be the same from someone who served back in the Vietnam War times, or OEF times, or let alone someone who served one year ago. The Army has changed as a whole throughout the years, and has gotten softer. Everything in basic combat training is built for you to pass. You physically will not fail unless you give up. You can fail as much times as you want, and they will give you as much opportunities as you can until you pass. The downside of it is that you probably can get a counseling and/or a phase recycle if you fail for an extremely extensive amount of times. It definitely would help to get into shape before basic, although DO NOT be discouraged on if you can run or do push-ups. You can literally walk into BCT with no athleticism, strength, or endurance. I’ve seen extremely unfit people who can survive every smoke session and every PT session we went through in BCT. It’s not bad at all. Lastly, and most importantly, do what you’re told and pay attention to detail. BCT isn’t even a physical game.. it’s not even a mental game (besides being away from your family). At the end of the day it’s just a Simon Says game where Drill Sergeants tell you what to do and you execute their orders. BCT is the easiest thing you will ever go through in the army. Until you make it into your unit/next duty assignment, then that’s when responsibility and your individual actions come into play.

This video solidified it, once I graduate from highschool in 2024, im enlisting in the army. Thank you so much for these videos, it has helped me ensure this is what I want to do, and these videos on top of the fact that I would be serving for those who can't muster that courage is something that inspires me so much. My dad served during the war following 9/11, and he endured a lot of things he didn't deserve, and he can't serve anymore. The honor of being able to protect him and many others is a dream come true. I just graduated bct fort sill few weeks ago now I’m at fort lee for my AIT. The hardest part about basic training is dealing with the people everything else isn’t that bad just take it one day at a time you will make it. The drill sergeant will be in your face. As long as you don’t quit, have any major injuries anyone can pass basic combat training. Don’t over think it or stress it trust me i watch a million videos about bct that doesn’t nothing once your in it you will see it’s all a team training environment.

The best piece of advice I’ve got is: never forget your reason !!!!
@Daytruin3 жыл бұрын
i have a great tip. Don't let your recruiter let you in until you prepare physically a little bit. You better pass that initial physical training exam with flying colors or you will be the one they pick on the most and they will turn your whole troop against you the first week or so. On the other side, if you do physical activity coming out of highschool and get in within a month it will likely be a breeze for you as basic training in the army is more mental than it is physically challenging as far as PT is concerned. Best advice, don't stand out!! Fall in.

I leave for Benning OSUT on November 1st, I'm confident in my physical abilities strength-wise, but I am an awful runner. Not very fast and I hate running. Do they start out of the gate with insane cardio and long runs or do they build your endurance up over time to be able to complete longer runs? Thanks for any advice!
@platini5183 жыл бұрын
You won’t be hit with insane running but you will be trained to get your cardio up so don’t worry. Eventually you’ll be running 2 miles almost every two weeks after a month there and 3-5 miles after week 12 but you’ll be able to handle it.
@Daytruin3 жыл бұрын
you will be running a mile for sure , but you will be taking your rifle with you everywhere and standing in formation for long periods of time. I'm talking an hour or so in formation often in the elements depending on the base can be brutal. Dude , do a little cardio before you leave, you will thank me later. It will seem easy otherwise for you, just make sure your head is in the game because manipulation and lies will be used to break you. The thing to remember and also remind your fellow bunkmates is that Drill Sergeants will lie to you and you will need to have the mental fortitude to not only detect the lie , but help your team understand what is going on too. I got stuck in a situation where they handed out airborn contracts (obvious bs) to 4 people in our platoon and then a week later revoked them by blaming the slackers in the group (regardless of if you slacked). They made me tear up the fictional document in front of the private with them yelling that you ruined the other soldiers career opportunity. This almost resulted in this private taking physical action and uttering death threats at me later on. Had to explain to him that it was a BS mind game which made the situation better. It is more of a mind game than anything. Remember that it is you and your team against the drill sergeants mind games. I would recommend having some fun with it and making a drill sergeant laugh , but just know that you will pay for their laughter still in PT (physical training), but you will get so bored that this is what makes the experience interesting. I have stories for sure. (full disclosure, i did not end up staying in the army and quit about 4 weeks or so in for personal reasons). Also side note, make sure you want to be there before you get on the plane/bus.

I goto basic training in a month I can do 50 pushups I can do 40 situps and I can run 2 miles in 16 mins on a good day sometimes I can't make it in time I just wanna get someone's opinion on whether or not I'm physically ready what do yall think?
@xavierenriquez89642 жыл бұрын
To improve your running try over distance running. So in this case go on 3+ mile runs and your 2 mile time will eventually get faster!

@fmbane2 жыл бұрын
running and push-ups. but tbh, there were A LOT of unfit people in my company and they’re were able to pass all ACFTs and handle all the smoke sessions. if you can’t hold the front leaning rest (push-up position) for 2 minutes, the most they can do to you is just yell at you until you’re able to hold yourself back up again. realistically, basic training as a whole will build you up physically throughout time. so you shouldn’t worry at all

@@TheBenAllen. since you did both, I keep hearing that reserves isn’t worth it… everyone tells me it’s a waste of time and that active is the way to go… what’s your thoughts snd opinion on that?

@@killriker I’m in the reserves now and my unit it kinda ass NCO’s just show up for a paycheck. If you have family or girlfriend waiting on you back home I recommend reserves. But if you don’t have anything going for you at home go active bro. But if you go for college money go guard bro

Do you have to throw hand grenades to graduate or can you get waivers?
@fmbane2 жыл бұрын
it’s mandatory graduation requirement to throw live hand grenades. it’s the easiest thing in basic training. the instructor literally holds it for you so you don’t explode yourself and then you just throw it over the wall that’s in front of you. it’s like a 5 foot tall wall that’s like 2 feet in front of you. as long as you get it over the wall, you’re good. it doesn’t matter how far or how high you chuck the grenade, just throw it over the wall that’s LITERALLY a foot in front of you.

would you recomend the army national guard or marine reserves
@11bsavage643 жыл бұрын
Army Guard more benefits. NG you are part of the Army and you can work and go to all the cool schools. You will have so many people telling you that they should of gone Guard. you can always go active duty into the Army also but that is after 6 months. If you want to go special forces you can also as NG has special forces. The guard, the Army ingenerall offers enlistment bonuses. There more benefits to NG than Marines.
