Thank you so much Mehreen! I have gone through the worst imaginable circumstances at some law firms and I just don't want any other person to be a victim of it. It broke me to the core but I stood up because of the strength that Allah gave me

TRUTH. WHOLE TRUTH. NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH! The dark side of the Pakistani legal industry! I absolutely 100% agree with what you are saying! This legal industry is a 'fraternity' (read:brotherhood) of toxic traditions so young lawyers must make a mindful choice when they choose to pursue a career in law here. Love you for this Komal. For your courage and bravery. More power x

Agreed, the only reason why i had to relocate to In-house was because of these reasons. Partners always come up excuses & learning is one of those. There should be reforms surrounding this to at least enable young lawyers to make a decent living.
@KomalAnwar12 жыл бұрын
I can completely understand why you would have chosen in-house. Unfortunately, you can't fight the system alone. In-house has a lot of benefits so make peace with the fact that Allah directed you where you were best suited for. InshaAllah you will do great if you are hard-working and talented.

Also, I would agree with the following comments that it takes a lot of courage to say all this and acknowledge the feelings of so many young lawyers. More power to you! Very impressive.

Excellent video. It takes a lot of courage to do this , kudos to you Komal . I believe those teaching in law schools should educate young law students of this so they can make better choice. Senior lawyers should realize the tough time they had gone through in their early days and make life comfortable for their juniors now . About time to change this culture .

Thank you so much Aslam uncle. I am so grateful that you took out the time to watch my video. I absolutely agree with you that law schools should definitely provide talks to students aspiring to become lawyers. As far as senior lawyers are concerned, I hope their mindset that we went through so you should also go through stops. This toxic culture needs to be eliminated.

Thank you so much Rafiah! One of the aims to make this video was to tell young lawyers that many of us share the same story and I am glad that you found it relatable.

I'm glad you mustered up the courage to talk about these issues. I being from a non law background as well actually started interning at renown law firm during second year of my uol law degree but after graduation I couldn't secure placements at reputable law firms due to "no vacancy"; however it would surprisingly come to my attention that someone with a "reference" got the job in the same firm instead of me. I was then able to secure a training contract at a reputable IT company as trainee counsel for three months which was then extended to 6 months for exemplary performance. I didn't continue after the 6th month as I always wanted to work in a corporate law firm and even though I landed interviews at renown corporate law firms, my interviews felt more of an interrogation rather than assessing my personality and skill set. They were all curious, how could someone like me at early stages of his career secure a contract at such a company and then develop significant knowledge in the areas of company law and corporate compliance. I was mocked when I requested for a salary. Fast forward to three years from then, I am now an independent legal practitioner. Visited courts and learned the procedures myself to be able to take this step :')

It was such a pleasure to read your comments and I am so proud of you MashaAllah. I believe a lot of times Allah makes us go through unpleasant situations to give us something better. In hindsight, if you would have secured a job at a law firm easily, you might have not become that resilient or started your own practice. In the end, all of us can only do our best with whatever we have and leave the rest on Allah. I wish you all the best and may you achieve success in every aspect of your life.

@@KomalAnwar1 Thank you so much for your kind words. If you can share your email, I would like to share an article with you that I wrote back in 2020 during the early days of my legal career over "dilemma of LLB Graduates in Pakistan" and that it is the need of the hour to establish a framework of monthly stipend for young lawyers. I was afraid of publicizing it, but would like to hear your thoughts on it. Looking forward to hearing from you.
